To wonder why the Press aren't banging on about the age difference between George and Amal?

looking at these pictures he could be her dad but are the Press banging on about the 16 year age difference? Er no. You don't think it's because he's a man, do you? If a woman of 53 was marrying a 36 year old man, she'd be labelled a cougar and he'd be a toyboy but Amal isn't being called a toy girl!

Grin just the once Pistol

Kimaroo · 15/09/2014 20:13

Old is right.Grin

Just showed dd3(16) one of the photos from the link and she said he looked 65.

TSSDNCOP · 15/09/2014 20:21

I think he actually looks like he's really pleased to be with her.

Although not as pleased as he would look if he were with me. Trewfact.

I seem to recall the CZJ/MD coverage to be more along the lines of what the hell is she doing with the oooold man.

Cariad007 · 15/09/2014 21:20

Sorry PistolWhipped, a sardonism failure on my part!

It does seem like George has contract girlfriends. They go out for a couple of years and then that's it. Makes you wonder how much genuine affection there is there. Stacy Keibler and he broke up last year and she's already married someone else had had a child since!

Alisvolatpropiis · 15/09/2014 22:16

Um, George Clooney doesn't look 70.

60 maybe.

For all we know he might actually be that age. I'm sure women aren't the only ones who lie about their age when in the public eye.

GreatAuntDinah · 16/09/2014 06:37

No, there's a well-known-ish actor I was at school with who's taken a couple of years off his age on Wikipedia.

I don't reckon the wedding is because he needs a wife for his political career. An Ay-rab wife would be a distinct hindrance among much of the US population surely.

Onedropoflove · 16/09/2014 12:10

I don't think it makes one jot of difference.

GlossyFossil · 16/09/2014 12:20

ooo give us a hint please Great AuntDinah, or at least list two things he's been in and we'll figure it out!

GlossyFossil · 16/09/2014 12:24

limitedperiod ha ha, yes, exactly! how well you put it!

GlossyFossil · 16/09/2014 12:33

I think he looks old for his age considering he's a sleb. Brad Pitt isn't much younger but looks a lot younger. Also Johnny Depp not much younger than GC but he also looks younger than GC. I think he'd look like STAFF if he wandered in to a nursing home though. Maybe the physio ;-)

GreatAuntDinah · 16/09/2014 12:57

oh no glossy I couldn't possibly let slip that his initials are J d'A Grin

mrsjavierbardem · 16/09/2014 14:32

I said 'a bit offensive' to call him gay ONLY in this context as being a man who is about to get married. calling him gay means calling him his marriage a lie to some degree. That is what I mean by calling him gay and calling her a beard.
I think it is odd to call someone gay just because they haven't married. A lot of people don't marry because there is no need to. At face value he appears to have met someone who he wants to hang on to rather than just date til boredom.

Lisa Snowden? He does appear to have a type but none have appeared to be as brainy and as entirely independent of career as this Amal woman. She doesn't need him does she? That has to be part of the attraction.

Even if he were bisexual (and wanted to keep that quiet), as long as he isn't discriminating against homosexual people then why not let him be vis a vis his sexuality? Plenty of people of elastic sexuality have married to my knowledge and become parents and moved between the genders for their sexual/marital expression. I just don't see things as completely one or the other.

limitedperiodonly · 16/09/2014 16:36

I've met George Clooney btw. He was wearing roomy trousers - the ones where you can shove your hands deep in the pockets and have a good rummage. He wasn't doing that, but it did dent his image, somewhat.

Much like his lavatorial sense of humour. It's odd to hear a man in the top 5 of the heart throb hit parade, and someone with credentials as a thinker, crack bumhole jokes.

To me, he looked old in ER but then didn't seem to age any more in his 40s. Same as Steve McQueen whose tragedy was dying at 50 just when he could have started looking really young.

And Princess Diana. A week before she died I saw a picture of her and thought: 'You've finally got your hair right.'

GlossyFossil · 16/09/2014 16:46

LimitedPeriod, that's so true. She finally got her hair right the week before she died.

squoosh · 16/09/2014 16:47

Diana was England's Samson.

GlossyFossil · 16/09/2014 16:48

Charles was Diana's Delilah

GlossyFossil · 16/09/2014 16:49

I mean, her downfall. Smile

GreatAuntDinah · 16/09/2014 19:26

I'm not sure I believe George is secretly gay. For one thing, he has been married before, before he was properly famous. Maybe having been divorced once, he doesn't fancy going through that again, and let's face it if I had hot young studs throwing themselves at my feet every day of the week I'd probably be shagging a succession of them too. For another, I reckon being out would probably lend him the Serious Actor gravitas he obviously wants, à la Kevin Spacey. And while it might be fair game to suggest slebs are lying about themselves, is it really on to suggest that Amal, not a sleb, is complicit / a lesbian beard?

mrsjavierbardem · 17/09/2014 00:12

please tell me MORE about the roomy trousers! I so want to understand what that means sartorially? I mean were the like CLOWN pantaloons of horror?
Were they trackies ? (Heaven Forfend!)

I met Diana four or five times.

She was massively tall.
All her facial features were large and statuesque, she was literally, facially, larger than life.
She was like the uberSloan of all time, so so so so like a Chelsea long limbed braying horsey lass whose dad was over 6 ft and looked like a General.
She laughed like a drain, and a lot, a real honking guffawing laugh.
She seemed to me to be very much a man's woman in my very brief time around her.
She was a tornado of charm when relaxed and on her own ground.
She also seemed very fragile and evidently very up and down in terms of her confidence.

She smelt absolutely amazing.

Sp1rals · 17/09/2014 00:41

I hate that I even have an opinion and that its so flame worthy but when I saw Courtney cox with, lets face it, quite a catch, I felt sad for him that he won't have children and is committing to a relationship where that is a near certainty. Obviously that's an age thing that doesn't come into play when the roles are reversed.

Regarding Amal, she's gorgeous and v glam but I would have thought she was older as well. Not her skin or anything I can put my finger on, but somebody else said it, she will look that age when she's older so that look will pay off then.

limitedperiodonly · 17/09/2014 13:30

MrdJavier I'll try to explain. The trousers were dark grey suit trousers, high-waisted with quite a lot of room at the front. Not too big, just a bit frumpy and old-mannish. He was wearing a black polo shirt that didn't look very good either.

It was bit disappointing to realise that when I saw him on the red carpet, he'd been dressed by professionals. OTOH I suppose it's quite comforting that he's clueless about clothes.

I met Princess Diana too and my impression was: 'God, you're big,' too.

Nancy66 · 17/09/2014 13:42

I saw Di in the flesh a few times and was shocked at how badly applied her foundation was - presumably she did it herself.

IScreamForIceCream · 17/09/2014 14:33

Maybe it was in tribute to her step - grandmother Barbara Cartland, Nancy
And perhaps Kate's much - discussed eyeliner is her carrying on the tradition.

I think so.

Onedropoflove · 17/09/2014 15:07

I'm sad that George wears Simon Cowell trousers. You'll be telling me he's 5 ft 5 next.

MrsMindful · 17/09/2014 15:25

Being married before doesn't mean he's not gay! But I don't think he is - some ppl just don't do long term relationships or they never find that one person they cud tolerate for life!
Princess Di was obviously massive compared to us mere mortals - in a good way,not fat massive -obviously - as for Sam Taylor wood and madonna plus JLo with 'Caspar' the transsexual fancier, they are really being weird - I get that a lovely young man is a gorgeous thing to look and feel, but it's just not right, the same as a man with a 'girl' - when you get past 30, I don't think it matters either way bcoz hopefully you will both be mature and sensible - but going out with 'kids' makes you Odd IMO
