Will they be banned in Scotland? Renamed?

In Scotland we call them double biscuits. Never heard them called an empire biscuit till I worked in Newcastle.

LadyWithLapdog · 10/09/2014 20:07

Now I'll have to google to see what these biscuits are. So I'm on the fence on that one.

RobotLover68 · 10/09/2014 20:12

never had one of those! I want one now Angry

Tricycletops · 10/09/2014 20:14

Double biscuits? Is that an East Coast thing? They're empire biscuits in Glasgow.

Maybe they'll go back to being German biscuits - they were renamed during WW1.

Also I really, really want one now...

Backtotherealworld · 10/09/2014 20:16

I'm from Glasgow and we've always called them Empire biscuits in our house. I really want one now Grin

InkleWinkle · 10/09/2014 20:18

SetPhasersTaeMalkie · 10/09/2014 20:39

Lucked · 10/09/2014 20:41

Yep I call them German biscuits but that is my Grannies influence so God knows when that dates from.

Redglitter · 10/09/2014 20:44

I've never heard them called double biscuits. I lived all over Scotland and they've always been empire biscuits

tilliebob · 10/09/2014 20:45

Double biscuits in my wee part of Fife Smile

laundryelf · 10/09/2014 21:02

Empire biscuits in my wee village bakery in west of Scotland, loved them when I was growing up. Tried some from Asda on a recent holiday and they were awful, really sweet and heavy. Had to stick with snowballs (cake type not Lees marshmallow) and Tunnocks caramel logs instead! Although found a lovely cafe in Plockton that did a fantastic vanilla & Scottish tablet ice cream with bits of tablet in it, yum!
Regardless of the vote, hands off our biscuits!

SantanaLopez · 10/09/2014 21:04

They're empire biscuits definitely!

They shall be renamed Salmond biscuits

RJnomore · 10/09/2014 21:04

They'll be independence biscuits, in the style of freedom fries

moggiek · 10/09/2014 21:06

Tricycletops · 10/09/2014 21:29

I hope they don't become saltire biscuits. Blue icing always tastes a bit funny...

NCforAye · 10/09/2014 21:33

Did you know Greggs did recipes?!

Grin

Ah, but they suggest a glace cherry on the top... I prefer the ones with a little jelly sweet probably because I'm a heathen.
