Or is it seen as acceptable now?

I don't think I've been looked down on either.

angelos02 · 09/09/2014 10:02

They are vile

Hakluyt · 09/09/2014 10:02

I don't look down on women with visible arm tattoos.

I do think they look awful and wonder why on earth anyone would do that to themselves. But I don't look down on them.

LiberalLibertines · 09/09/2014 10:05

Probably, people judge constantly,I don't give a fuck luckily :)

CalamitouslyWrong · 09/09/2014 10:09

It's not to my taste, but they're not my arms so my taste doesn't actually matter. Women with tattoos probably think my aesthetic choices are equally (or more) crap.

almosthuman · 09/09/2014 10:09

I have my dd name on the inside of my wrist and there has been a few instances where someone has made a negative comments.

Many closed minded individuals do look down on women with tattoo's that is their problem, I believe in live and let live.

MidniteScribbler · 09/09/2014 10:11

I don't look down on them, but I don't think they look attractive either, and I think it could possibly limit your choices. To each their own, but don't expect me to tell you how gorgeous they are.

GiveMeCheesecake · 09/09/2014 10:13

I have a half-sleeve on one arm and several tattoos on the other. I don't have them on show often but when I do I never experience any judgey comments. If people do say anything it's usually complimentary. Or you get the odd one who asks if they're real Confused

SamG76 · 09/09/2014 10:14

I don't look down on them, but I've never seen anyone's bare arms and thought "s/he would look so much better with a sleeve tattoo".

BreadForBrains · 09/09/2014 10:14

I dislike tattoos on men and women.
I don't look down on the people who have them.
I think 'society' doesn't care either way. I reckon we're moving more towards a half and half split of people who do and don't have them and they've lost their 'edgy' appeal that they once had.
Which leads me to think people don't look down on them as they're common (as in popular).

PlushSuppie · 09/09/2014 10:14

I think they look horrible but I don't look down on people.

FloozeyLoozey · 09/09/2014 10:17

These tattoo debates always come up but a lot of it is how you carry yourself and how you act. I'm fairly heavily tattooed but I have a good managerial job and I'm treated with respect in the workplace, by my son's teachers, other parents and by society in general. I've had some rude comments and treated like a fetish by some men but the vast majority of people I encounter don't treat me any differently to if I didn't have tattoos. This is because I behave like a civilised member of society and don't have a chip on my shoulder about it. A lot of people don't like tattoos, that's fine, I was the one who chose to make my body look different, I simply want to go about my business. If people do wrongly judge me I make sure my behaviour doesn't fit whatever initial judgement they might make. I don't really mix in modified circles either, my friends and family aren't generally tattooed and I've dated many men without them. It's not that big a deal in the grand scheme of life.

MsVestibule · 09/09/2014 10:17

I don't particularly like them, but as they're far more common now than a few years ago, I guess I'm more used to them.

However, I never look down on anybody because of their physical appearance. Whether 'society' does, I have no idea. Possibly.

thereturnofshoesy · 09/09/2014 10:17

well no one looks down on me cos of it, only on mn do you get the hate

cheerybear · 09/09/2014 10:18

I want a sleeve tattoo, but I am a professional woman, I have been worried about how it could affect me, but I would keep it covered at work.

More people have tattoos than don't these days; they're a bit standard issues.

I think they look grim, but I certainly don't look down on people who have them, as their body art impacts on me exactly not at all.

Wailywailywaily · 09/09/2014 10:18

It depends on the tattoo, some are lovely and arty, some are not. I often wonder why people tattoo names on themselves, I knew one girl who had tattood her own name onto her arm, I presumed she thought she would forget it.

Lagoonablue · 09/09/2014 10:19

I don't like them but don't look down on those who do. It is just a choice.

Tittifilarious · 09/09/2014 10:20

I like tattoos. Well saying that I like bold tattoos, sleeve ones. I kind of think "go hard or go home" with tattoos.

That said, I'm racking my brains going through the people I know who have them and what jobs they have - music teacher, designer, waitress. Small demographic admittedly, but I think promominent tattoos could limit certain careers and that is probably due to perception (or could it be due to people who are drawn to prominent tattoos having different preferences for jobs?). Not sure.

ellenjames · 09/09/2014 10:21

I agree with floozey. I don't like them on arms for myself but couldn't care less what someone else wants to do with their own body. But I do think people are judged for having them, but we are always being judged by someone for something!Grin

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 09/09/2014 10:21

I don't look down on people with them, I just don't like them. Different tastes, that's all.

PinkSquash · 09/09/2014 10:21

I don't like tattoos on anyone, so I don't have any. I don't judge but I think it's so important to find a really good tattooist who will do the design justice.

I really don't like the trend of having your childs name and DoB tattooed on, it's not like you'll forget it.

F0ssil · 09/09/2014 10:23

I look at them and think 'eeooow'. I don't know why anybody would get one. I'm not Society though. I'm one individual. When you got the tattoo you would have known that some people really don't like them. That's part of their appeal I think. So getting a tattoo and then saying 'oh the mainstream/conservative/establishment has a tendency to look down on tattoos is kind of..................................... like saying 'The official advice on smoking is that it damages your health'

WorraLiberty · 09/09/2014 10:24

I don't look down on them but I really don't like them, especially sleeves.
