Welcome to indyref 6

Spidergirl8 asked close to end of last thread:

What impact would independence have on fiscal policy and economic stability
What impact would the ageing population have on the future
Is the predicted future a positive one, based on fact

If the bite goes no, what has actually been achieved? Does that not just put Scotland on the back foot?

Let's try and give not too biased answers please!

There are assholes everywhere but the exaggeration of such stuff by the press is ridiculous.

I have been called a fucking republican bitch & an Irish cunt not even from here. Like I say I accept there are idiots everywhere and don't tar entire no side with it.

AnnieHoo · 07/09/2014 09:40

It's a gamble some are willing to take. Can you see RofUk risk the costs, job losses and their own economic security?

Sallyingforth · 07/09/2014 09:40

Deedee
I'm sure MNHQ will be glad to say that we must play nicely, but you are pushing for something that will tear families apart and cause pain to people across the land, ignoring all the evidence. You can hardly expect people to hide their frustration.

FannyFifer · 07/09/2014 09:41

Pretty pictures. Tesco refuted those lies.

Celticlass2 · 07/09/2014 09:42

Statistically there seems to be a rather large over egging if it on here tbh. Everybody has said there are bigots on both side.
The fact is there are lots of english people as well as other nationalities who are resident in Scotland who are going to vote no. All this supposed anti English bigotry just doesn't stack up..

Saying that yes supporters hate English people is ridiculous, nasty and more than a bit stupid.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 07/09/2014 09:44

That dreadful wings over Scotland shite is the work of someone English who lives in Bath.

"Dreadful" "Shite" : Opinion, not fact. Whatever you may think of the writing style, Wings is well referenced so you can check everything said.

Also, why shouldn't an Englishman living in Bath have a view on the referendum? (Stuart Campbell isn't English BTW, he is Scottish)

FannyFifer · 07/09/2014 09:45

Aye the groups registered with the electoral commission as No supporters, nope nothing bigoted about the Orange Lodge, Brittanica party etc.

Celticlass2 · 07/09/2014 09:45

I meant to say going to vote Yes

TeamScotland · 07/09/2014 09:46

Pretty pictures, Tesco have come out and said the no campaign's points about supermarket price rises are nonsense. I'll see if I can find a link.

"it is clear that most yes voters couldn't think their way out of a paper bag."

Please stop being so derogatory towards other posters on this thread Lady. You're at it again!

PrettyPictures92 · 07/09/2014 09:46

And cause I see a lot of folk saying yes voters hate the English - my dsis moved to england some years ago where my bil stays, my niece and soon to be nephew are classed as English and in general I have no problem with anyone from there unless they specifically have been a cunt to me

FannyFifer · 07/09/2014 09:46

Morrisons I believe have also stated that prices may decrease.

PlasticPinkFlamingo · 07/09/2014 09:47

Prettypictures read the link I posted above from futureukandscotland, which has been acknowledged to be a relatively neutral source on these threads.

On balance, I think you'd be looking at higher grocery prices post independence. Smaller population with a spread out market means higher cost to serve. It is currently an area where Scotland benefits from being in the union as there is a national agreement on pricing with the major retailers.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 07/09/2014 09:48

Why would people who want to stay as part of the UK, and therefore in a union with England, Wales and NI be the bigoted ones? Another bizarre claim from a yes supporter.

Have a look @BritNatAbuseBot on Twitter.

And I didn't say all No campaigners were bigoted as you insinuate I said there were bigots on both sides. You are derailing again.

Celticlass2 · 07/09/2014 09:48

The Orange lodge and the BNP Enough to make any wavering vote tick the Yes box.

PlasticPinkFlamingo · 07/09/2014 09:48

Morrisons said the opposite unless there's a later article reversing their position.

Thanks, any links would be greatly appreciated :) Google seems to be spitting all sorts of non relevant info at me when I've been trying to find out

Numanoid · 07/09/2014 09:50

Then wouldn't it okay for deeedeee to reply in kind? A lot of us feel the same frustration at the thought of a No vote. I don't think insults are okay from either side, but Yes supporters aren't ignoring anything. Some, maybe, but we genuinely believe this will be better for Scotland, having weighed up the facts. There are people like myself who will be leaving in the event of a No vote, and that isn't what we want to do. It's not any different from those leaving in the event of a Yes vote.
If families are being torn apart (which I haven't heard of yet) it can't be blamed on anyone in particular.

It seems to end up that if you're a Yes voter here, you're ultimately someone who has their head in the clouds, no matter if you're respectful of everyone's opinion, or not. Hmm

Sallyingforth · 07/09/2014 09:50

Wings is well referenced so you can check everything said.

As has been pointed out to you previously, the references are just as selective and biased as the text. There are contradictory references to all of them, and more.

StatisticallyChallenged · 07/09/2014 09:50

PrettyPictures92 my best guess would be that nobody actually knows. The BT thing claiming prices would go up was biased. The Tesco response was typical corporate try to offend nobody.

Whether prices go up in iScotland depends on a number of factors. It depends on the currency we are using and therefore on how transaction costs iron out. It depends on what the situation ends up being with borders, with the EU, with taxation. Depends on how the individual companies chose to segment their business i.e. whether they create Scottish 'divisions' who calculate costs separately (it is more expensive to serve remote parts of Scotland.) Too many moving parts to really determine.
