AIBU to say Hermes delivery are useless and irresponsible?

Ordered an iPhone online to replace my old dead one. Hermes was the delivery service. Got a helpful email from them about delivery and tracking. Got to five days in and no word, so tracked the item. Told me it was delivered yesterday morning to a "safe and secure location". On the faqs, this is listed as "a garage or shed".

What did I get? BETWEEN MY WHEELIE BINS BY THE SIDE OF THE ROAD! Firstly, I assumed it was a cardboard box my partner had put out to recycle. Then I went down late tonight to put some rubbish out and realised it was my bloody phone! Thank goodness it hadn't rained, been noticed by some passer by, or been taken by the bin men!

Safe and secure location, my arse. Angry I know it's a pain collecting from the post office depot, but at least they keep it secure and you have to take id.

Any other Hermes are irresponsible/useless stories??

How ridiculous. Say you've not received it and sell it on eBay! That will teach them Wink

FreeSpirit89 · 05/09/2014 00:03

Hermes are notorious for that. When there runs over they can go home, they don't want to bother with returning un deliver ever parcels.

Sell it. Say you never got it

Sicaq · 05/09/2014 00:07

They left my £120 boots "in the back garden". Except I don't have a back garden, or a front garden. Presumably the courier got good money on eBay for them.

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 05/09/2014 00:09

Was it a Hermes courier who got a parcel stuck in someone's gutter recently?

Personally speaking, I like it when things I order come via Hermes. My local courier is an older lady with a lot of common sense. Parcels are left in a logical place & the card through the door always explains exactly where. If there is no safe place, she leaves parcels with neighbours - and even asks about to see who talks to who first!

MrsCakesPrecognition · 05/09/2014 00:12

My Hermes courier is a lovely lady, who will make a special trip out in the evening to drop off a package that she couldn't deliver earlier (she leaves her personal mobile no. so we can call and make arrangements). She is fab.

Aeroflotgirl · 05/09/2014 00:18

Yes my local Hermes courier is a fantastic lady, who leaves parcels in a good place and puts card through the door explaining where

Graciescotland · 05/09/2014 00:39

I loathe myhermes. I'm a bit rural so they just return parcels to sender or they go missing or they say they've delivered them when they haven't. Have spent hours chasing myhermes over the years. Hugely disappointed now John Lewis are using them.

Lally112 · 05/09/2014 00:42

Our hermes guy is fab, he is called john, also works for DPD and isn't phased one little bit by the terrain, livestock or man eating canines he has to pass to get to us. I had to have surgery a few weeks ago and he even brought my box right through my hallway because I couldn't manage it with the wound.

Mitchell2 · 05/09/2014 02:03

I've only ever had one good Hermes experience the rest have been pants. Constantly putting the parcels next to bins, out in the open... I'm just waiting for something to go missing (plenty of things gave been damaged though).

missbluebird · 05/09/2014 02:07

Today we had a Hermes parcel put in the recycling box on recycling day. Luckily MIL had popped round and seen the card before the bin men arrived....

Eminybob · 05/09/2014 02:10

Mine actually seems to come at the right time, I'm sure he waits until he sees me come home, a couple of times he's arrived within 10 mins of me walking through the door. Usually weekends and evenings.

JadeJ123 · 05/09/2014 03:10

I had one bad experience with them but since that they've been fine.

SignYourNameInBrownAndFlame · 05/09/2014 05:04

I avoid buying from eBay sellers who say they use myhermes, they're woeful.

HighFiveThenSquidAway · 05/09/2014 06:23

I avoid buying anything that states myhermes will be the courier, as nothing is worth the hassle ofree dealing with the couriers themselves or their obnoxious customer service team.

ruralmyth · 05/09/2014 06:27

I love our local Hermes guy. We're rural & he knows the area & leaves things in the woodshed if we're out.
Now Citylink, are hopeless IME.

Humansatnav · 05/09/2014 06:35

Yup, 2 stories . First one hung £259 of clothes up on my front door - dd was in the house at the time waiting for the delivery, but they didn't bother to ring bell / knock on door.
2nd one threw delivery over the locked back gate- wool coat straight into the fishpond.
They are crap !!

3pigsinblanketsandasausagerole · 05/09/2014 06:38

I had a rude Hermes driver once who kicked off because I hadn't been in when he first tried to deliver. I shut the door on him. Rude git

1980jm · 05/09/2014 07:02

Hermes are awful! I've had 2 shockers - first was an order of bedding for PFB which was left inside my garden waste/ food scraps bin, sat on top of the existing contents - a "safe place" apparently.
Second time had about £100 of goods coming and it arrived in 2 big boxes. It didn't appear so I looked at tracking which said it had been signed for by "Smith" or something.
When I chased it they came up with a fictional tale of me signing for it in my porch at the end of my drive (I have neither!)
I found the parcels 2 days later lying in the snow in the side return of my garden. They had obviously been chucked over the 6 foot gate and left.

ruralmyth · 05/09/2014 07:33

I had a recent courier who insisted on taking a photo of me stood in the doorway holding my delivery scans Hello for said picture.

Ehhn · 05/09/2014 07:35

Thanks for sharing... Wheelie bin pales in comparison to fish ponds and snow!

In my area, Hermes are brilliant, the best of the lot. The worse for me are Amazon Logistics - I've reduced my Amazon buying since they started doing their own deliveries as the people doing it here are hopeless. Whereas my local Hermes lady is fantastic.

Fav · 05/09/2014 08:07

Our local Hermes courier is amazing.

poolomoomon · 05/09/2014 08:13

Awh our local Hermes courier is lovely. He reminds me a lot of LaRoche from The Mentalist for anyone who watches that Grin. He thanked us last Christmas for giving him so much business over the Christmas months (we buy almost all of our Christmas presents/decorations online and he delivered 90% of them.) He's very happy and kind.

Yodel otoh are the real joke. They threw a parcel over our back fence, luckily it was clothing so nothing breakable. They also handed a parcel over the back gate to my 3 year old to give me a few weeks back Hmm. I've had them knock on the door, within the minute I got to the door, unlocked and opened they were driving away and had dumped parcel on doorstep. Lucky I was in really! Also had one parcel that mysteriously went missing so I got refunded for it. It then turned up three months later! What the hell.

trashcansinatra · 05/09/2014 08:16

I think I should never move house. We buy loads online and have never really had any problems. Must annoying us when they insist on taking it away rather than leave it!

ghostland · 05/09/2014 09:05

I hate them. They have left packages for me in the "communal" entrance to where I live and have disappeared. Thankfully the company I bought the items from refunded but they obviously couldn't be bothered to come up half a landing to actually deliver said items. I try and not buy from companies that use Hermes as have had so many problems with them leaving items in stupid places.
