AIBU?

to think beards and moustaches on men are generally very unattractive and probably unhygenic too?

I really can't stand beards and moustaches on guys, especially the bushy kind, especially when not a very nice colour and especially when on men with a lesser than average amount of hair on the top of their head.... Yuck!

They seem increasingly popular, especially with 20-30 somethings, though. Unfathomable to me. Am I alone in thinking this way? Too old? Too prudish? A bit of designer stubble is the most I can tolerate, but hate how spiky it feels on DH.

I'm not keen on the look, although I can see why men with a weak or prominent chin would grow a beard to disguise it.

Moustaches without the adjoining beard and tidy, styled beards just confuse me. Why go to the effort? Vanity and hairiness don't seem to go together.

Loathe beards. Vom. Saw an ad the other day for some hotel and realise di was thinking: what is that revolting pervy man doing carrying that beautiful woman over the threshold of a room, then realised he was supposed to be ruggedly handsome with his six inch bush of black matting. Ew. No thanks.

My OH goes through phases, at the moment his beard is pretty big, and I love it. Much nicer than stubble when kissing or DTD!

DP has an on/off beard, in that he shaves to stubble about every 3-4 weeks. I like it at the 1-3 week stage. Stubble is too prickly, too long and I start to think of David Bellamy Grin. He doesn't suit clean shaven, what with having dreads down to his bum and all!!

I never used to be keen, but DH grew a beard, a few years ago, and it really suits him. I've even forgiven David Mitchell for growing his, now.

Silly just a bit on the bottom of the chin or a 'show beard' as I call it are annoying. What's the point? Have a beard or not but don't sculpt it!.

Having recently had some passionate kissing with a bearded man, I found it rubbed most of the skin off my chin and bizarrely, the tip of my nose! So I'm not a fan.

My DP looks like a 6ft 4 child when he's clean shaven. His beard and tache look wonderful.

And it's definitely softer to snog than stubble, though I occasionally get a stray hair up my nose!

Pandora - please elaborate! I can
only think of the downsides in the scenario you mention.

Looks like he's spent far too much time back combing his hair, visualise

Mewling - I think head hair is different due to lower proximity to mouth / food than facial hair. Obviously needs frequent washing too though.

All I can think about is getting that beard shaved off him. Grin

Not too keen myself, but then my dad has always had a beard and much as I love my dad I don't want to be reminded if him when I kiss someone.
I do wonder with those really bushy beards how much hair drops out of them on a daily basis. Every time I watch the Bake Off I can't help imaging Ian's beard hairs getting in all his cakes, I keep expecting to see Mary or Paul picking one out from between their teeth.

I hadn't thought of beards as being disguises for Bruce Forsyth / Jimmy Hill chins though - fair point I guess.

But what about large beard & bald(ing) head scenarios? Just weird IMO and cringey over-compensating.

YABU. Beards are great. They're masculine, attractive and generally wonderful.

I like beards, lucky that as DH has had one for the last five years. He looks like a naked mole rat without it, all pink and shiny and weird. Confused

His suits him and it's not unhygienic at all!

Interesting MrsTerryPratchett! I'm definitely pognophobic then! Smile

Article seems to imply that (some!) beard wearers are compensating for their own perceived lack of masculinity by growing a beard....hmmmmm

Radio - is your DH bald then?
I can empathise. My DH looks like a 6th former without a bit of stubble!

Have never seen DH without a moustache, except in old photos from before his late teens.

Yes, I echo the comment about the advantages when DTD!

Gurl, as Pandora hasn't come back yet, can you tell me why beards are so great when DTD? Smile

I love beards, imo men look so much better with a bit of fur.

DH shaved his recently and I was surprised to find myself feeling a little sad about it Blush normally I'm not fussed about stuff like that. DS2 (1 yo) wasn't best pleased either.

BellBookandCandle, I had the complete opposite. One of my first memories is hiding behind the sofa because my dad shaved his moustache. His upper lip looked huge and it terrified me. :o

OK, I have been missing out.

What's all this about beards and sex?
