Really didn't want to use the word 'bad' Sad

DP's darling sister uploaded photos of her 9~ month old in McDonald's eating fries and chicken nuggets.

We KNOW junk food is bad, why give it to such a young baby? Why give it to your child at all?!

Chicken mcnuggets? sad] I'm sure your sister in law is doing her best but that is really wrong. I do think it is your duty to step in and help to educate her, because when you know better you do better. I feel so sad for that poor, poor baby. Everyone knows you get a 1/4lber with cheese at mc Donalds Sad

gentlehoney · 30/08/2014 20:39

"I was just shocked that she was feeding her baby (who she was so excited to have!) unhealthy crap"

Good Lord, Hoot!

It sounds as if you are implying that she doesn't deserve her baby just because she gave it chips.

ILovePud · 30/08/2014 20:39

Ha Worral that's fantastic, I'm snorting at the computer.

WorraLiberty · 30/08/2014 20:40

I think his eyebrows should have been golden arches Grin

AnaisB · 30/08/2014 20:42

I'm addicted to food. True fact.

Squigglybear · 30/08/2014 20:42

I agree with you OP. McDonald's is crap food. Why give a 9 month old that. Hate MD's...Why is everyone so addicted to it.

Sirzy · 30/08/2014 20:43

A healthy diet is a balanced diet. The odd bit of mcdonalds of other such things won't do any long term harm, would you have the same objections to her being fed chicken nuggets and chips at home?

DS was fed chicken nuggets around that age. He is 4 now and would rather starve than eat them!

HootOnTheBeach · 30/08/2014 20:43

Not at all, gentlehoney, just find it odd that you would feed your baby crap food especially after the challenges of having one in the first place. And yes, there were challenges but irrelevant to thread.

WorraLiberty · 30/08/2014 20:43

'Everyone' is not addicted to it Squigglybear

Cantbelievethisishappening · 30/08/2014 20:44

Grin Worra

Priceless

furcoatbigknickers · 30/08/2014 20:45

Its not great is it? But the baby is being fed.

MyLifeIsFictional · 30/08/2014 20:47

I could eat some fries right now. And a Big Mac. And because I want to have no roof of my mouth, an Apple Pie.

I just know that I will be disappointed by the taste. I always seem to remember it being much tastier than I am served!

gentlehoney · 30/08/2014 20:48

Hoot, if your sister has managed to overcome difficulties to have a baby and still be relaxed about food and not feeling that she ought to be a perfect mother then she is doing brilliantly.
Very often "infertile" couples feel (or are made to feel) that they have to be "worthy" enough.

Cantbelievethisishappening · 30/08/2014 20:48

McDonalds you say.........It's appalling...... you are justified to feel utterly outraged and judgmental.
Have you spoken to her about it? I would. I would also post some links to Annabel Karmel on her wall. Has she ever given any other indication that she is a truly dreadful mother? Keep a close eye on her.

AnaisB · 30/08/2014 20:51

OP, YABU to be judging her about something pretty inconsequential. YABU to think that how easy/difficult it was for you to get pregnant should affect food choices. Your attitude to unhealthy food also seems a bit U.

hambo · 30/08/2014 20:51

Hooton the beach - YANBU. Salt is very harmful for babies.

PinkSquash · 30/08/2014 20:55

Chips don't have to have salt on them y'know.

That baby is gonna haunt my nightmares forever more.Shock

fairylightsintheloft · 30/08/2014 20:57

my 5 and 3 year old have been in McD about three times in their lives just because its not somewhere we eat. I might stick a fb post on just for the novelty value - how do you know it wasn't that? This summer hols they have eaten their body weight in ice cream, biscuits and drunk gallons of squash, alongside decent breks and dinners. They are deliriously happy, bouncy and happy. In two days they (and us) will go back to term time hours which means weetabix, fruit, rice cakes and healthy dinners cooked by the CM. Get over yourself - do you have kids by the way?

WorraLiberty · 30/08/2014 20:57

Hooton the beach - YANBU. Salt is very harmful for babies.

No it's not but too much can be

Discobugsacha · 30/08/2014 21:01

Hahaha. I love how everyone's saying it's nbd but I bet most of you wouldn't give a 9 month old McDonald's either!

A chip from an older siblings meal is one thing but most people dont buy a 9mo a happy meal..!

Squigglybear · 30/08/2014 21:02

You are right WorraLiberty not everyone is addicted (I hate it) but I don't know many people who don't eat there. The toys as a lure is what gets me angry.
I don't think a MD meal can be included as part of a balanced diet at that age when there are so many better choices, it's not a treat ...
its a cop out.

treadheavily · 30/08/2014 21:04

I agree with the OP. of course it is foolish to feed a 9mo a happy meal.

gentlehoney · 30/08/2014 21:04

Pinksquash, salty chips are compulsory in McDonald because they are put on before serving.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 30/08/2014 21:04

Salt is very harmful for babies.

No, too much salt is harmful for babies. They don't suddenly vaporise if you put them too near the salt cellar.

OP, you are over reacting slightly.

Yoruba · 30/08/2014 21:05

Yanbu op. McDonald's for a 9mo is crap. No one on mn will EVER admit that though!

Also, the rda of salt for a baby is 0.5g. The salt content in a happy meal is 1.1g. Add ketchup is another 0.5g. TRIPLE the rda in one meal. (That's taken from mc ds website)
