To think that Islam is not the greatest threat?

Islamist extremists have given the religion a bad name. I am agnostic ( not atheist) btw and yet see religion as a deluded way of controlling the masses.
There has been some terrible Islamic extremism recently such as the recent beheadinds etc but in the past Christianity was just as violent. Northern Ireland for example.

It is religion in general rather than Islam that is a threat to reason and sanity.

"what i dont get is Israel's obsession with killing Palestinian children"

What a stupid thing to say. Really. There is a conflict. Israel might not do enough to prevent civilians dying (bearing in mind that about half of the Gazan civilian population are children) during the conflict but to call it an obsession with killing Palestinian children.

In fact, you exemplify my point beautifully. You almost obsessively post about Israel, using extremely inflammatory language and making it all Israel's fault. Have you posted about any other political or human rights issues? (answer is not really, I had a quick look).

It's all about Israel in your posts - and extremely one sided with absolutely no consideration that this is a complex conflict where neither side really has the moral high ground and both sides have legitimate and competing claims.

What's your connection to Israel other than being Muslim yourself? Why your obsession with Israel? Are you of Israeli or Palestinian origin? Have you spent time in Israel or Palestine?

You really are an example of the point I'm making. One sided, very extreme, inflammatory and obsessive behaviour towards Israel.

If by inflammatory, you mean that you also find the facts that have been presented by Richard Falk, the jewish UN human rights investigator inflammatory, then I guess You will find me inflammatory too.

Richard Falk, the United Nations special rapporteur on human rights in the Palestinian territories has said that Israeli policies bore "unacceptable characteristics of colonialism, apartheid and ethnic cleansing".
He has long drawn controversy in Israel, in 2008 comparing Israeli military strikes against Hamas in Gaza - during which 1,400 Palestinians were killed and there was widespread destruction in densely populated areas - to those of the Nazis. Source: reuters

Richard Falk has an agenda, one for human rights and justice. Do you throw your accusation that he is exclusively outraged by Israel too? would you require him to comment on ISIS too for 'balance'?

The world would be a lot better without religion. Its the cause of wars and arguments, ignorance and hatred. We don't need it. It's a scare tactic to keep people in line. Islam itself is NOT a threat. It's the extremists that don't like our way of life and are threatening it. I was brought up Catholic and I will never deny God (i'm not practising but whatever). Our religion teaches peace and so does theirs, so why are they so... not peaceful?
The threat is IS (ISIS). The threat is Hamas. The threat is in this country, of young men and women who want to fight for their God. Well I don't want to fight for a God, I want to fight for my country, for our way of life.
What they picket london with signs saying "Britain, Your 9/11 Will Come!" and
"Massacre/butcher/behead the non believers!"
They get NOTHING. No prison sentence, nothing. They burn our poppy and mock the remembrance of our fallen soldiers. Nothing. No muslim outrage. But as soon as someone walks around with their arms out or someone satirically draws a picture of Mohammed (like south park) then we get more and more death threats.
Its disgusting. Kids are getting raped and abused. None of them care because their "God" had a 9 year old wife. Anyone watch the show on C4 last night. All those little boys... and all the men? muslim.
It just seems that everything bad has happened since 2001, has been by muslims. I know for a fact thats not the case, but the burnings, the rapes, the bombings. All muslim. We are scared of being bombed thats why there is islamaphobia. Over our dead body will they change how far we've come in our civilisation. they're still living 2000+ years in the past.

Our religion teaches peace and so does theirs, so why are they so... not peaceful?

Maybe because - as I wrote elsewhere - they have diseased minds? Evil people often seek excuses for their actions, but religion / perceived disadvantage / "those nasty people" etc aren't actually the problem ... THEY are

OTheHugeManatee · 02/09/2014 11:38

YABU OP. No-one is contesting the idea that Christians have not at points in history done some appalling things in the name of religion. But militant Islamists are doing those things now. If your post was 'AIBU that religion can make people do nasty things?' I'd agree that you can draw equivalences, but no.

Playing down the overwhelming role of militant Islamism in some of the most appalling ideology-driven atrocities of our present day doesn't make you look like a nice open-minded liberal, just someone who can't see what's right in front of them.

And trying to minimise the actions of ISIS etc because some Baptists in the American South don't like abortion is like trying to claim that domestic violence isn't fundamentally about violence against women just because the occasional DV perpetrator is female.

puzzled sorry I only read the OP.
OP, you cannot say Christians had done the same. this is here, this is now. the only extremist catholic group I can think of is WBC in the USA.
They picket people's funerals which is disgusting and is so un-Christian. They will be the ones going to hell for intolerance of man!

CaptChaos · 02/09/2014 17:43

Just for info.... WBC is nothing to do with catholicism. The clue is in their name. They'd be REALLY pissed off to think people thought they had anything to do with it. They hate the catholic church.

as you were.
