We don't know that our independent govt would be any better/less corrupt etc (although I personally think it would be), but we DO know that WM govt is those things. Cereal woman says that voting yes is too much of a gamble, but we gamble all the time as part of the UK where we might have our budget cut or have random policies imposed upon us that our MPs voted against.

And on the subject of democracy, FPTP is not a very fair voting system which we wouldn't be part of any more.

JimMurphysHump · 30/08/2014 18:08

The whole currency union thing annoys me actually. The No camp say (paraphrased) "if you don't have a currency union it is bad because another country's decisions will have an impact on your economy".

Surely a lot less of an impact than WM currently has on our economy and public spending power though?

JimMurphysHump · 30/08/2014 18:10

What's the SNP stance on voting methods? Will they be supporting a move to an STV system or will we carry on with this additional member system we have?

StatisticallyChallenged · 30/08/2014 18:24

The problem is that at the moment (although I am sure many Yes voters will deny it!), Scotland is considered when decisions are made regarding, for example, interest rates. We're a part of the UK and decisions are made which take account of that. The impact on our industries like oil are considered. And whilst we have some elements of the budget under Scottish control the major economic issues are considered as a whole. If we were independent and just "using the pound" then we would no longer factor in to their decision making. They could make decisions about the currency which would be the exact opposite of what Scotland needs without even thinking about it - so they could have a severely negative impact. It's not the same situation at all.

In response to the ops original question, yes, YABU to start another sodding indyref thread. Surely we've heard every lie and counter lie by now?
Got another bloody 19 days of this crap to put up with. Just leave me alone and I'll vote on the day. Spare me all the sodding propaganda!

StatisticallyChallenged · 30/08/2014 18:55

To be be fair dementedma, this thread has been for the most part good natured and avoided too much propaganda - we've done all that in the first two threads Grin

FannyFifer · 30/08/2014 19:01

We're now having a love in & arranging a post referendum meet up. Wink

I think a lot of us are in real life dementedma - I've had enough of people I know being hideous about it. Much more civilised in here most of the time!

OOAOML · 30/08/2014 20:31

It is weird to think some people have already voted. Has it driven you demented? Wink

PacificDogwood · 30/08/2014 20:43

I'd be delighted to have it all done and over with.

Much as I am still struggling to reach any kind of decision (now, you lot, don't you start again), I suppose that will make it easier for me and those of my indecision ilk to make our peace with whatever result the Ref yields.
I won't be in the country on the day of the Ref (family wedding), but still feel I have a week or so before I have to come off the fence. Ack.
I am fed up thinking about it.

OOAOML · 30/08/2014 21:01

Do you have a postal vote Pacific? Ducks, whilst muttering that ?I'm not trying to convince you, just checking you can vote if you want to,

PacificDogwood · 30/08/2014 21:02

Yes.
Ballot papers are staring at me.
I am sure their gaze is following me around the room.

OOAOML · 30/08/2014 21:07

Statistically who in the coven was responsible for putting the spells on the postal votes? Might have been a bit strong.....

StatisticallyChallenged · 30/08/2014 21:13

Damn, did I mix up my spells again? I meant to go for the one that makes them talk not follow people around.

PacificDogwood · 30/08/2014 21:13

I knew it! I knew it!!
Powers beyond my ken are at work here…

Seriously, I feel I have heard every argument 17 times over in different variations and in the absence of a reliable crystal ball on either side of the debate all 'predictions' and promises are pie in the sky. I don't think that anything that anybody says could add to what I have now read, debated in RL and read on here and elsewhere.

Sigh.

Could the Coven not do some decent fortune telling??
This is you lot, isn't it?

SantanaLopez · 30/08/2014 21:15

Can I just add that the Coven pictures were utterly hilarious and made me laugh out loud in the library Grin

OOAOML · 30/08/2014 21:15

I am probably old enough to be their mum Blush

SantanaLopez · 30/08/2014 21:16

Pfff, Pacific, they look like amateurs! What do you take us for? We've got real haggises to sacrifice and everything Grin

PacificDogwood · 30/08/2014 21:16

Bet you have a spell or Rapunzel's hair or a painting in the attic to fix that though, don't you, OOAOML Wink

PacificDogwood · 30/08/2014 21:18

Real haggises? Wow! No wonder the magic is strong.

Could you not turn AS in to a Prince on a trusted stead or something?

Ah crap, I just remembered that I am NOT a royalist. Darn.

StatisticallyChallenged · 30/08/2014 21:18

Proper one legged ones, eh Santana! And voodoo dolls of Alex and Nicola Grin

OOAOML · 30/08/2014 21:20

I did used to have waist length hair Pacific. But put it this way, I very rarely get asked for ID when I buy wine. There is something rather galling seeing the cashier press the 'customer is obviously over 25' button.
