She took Iain's ice cream out of the freezer did she not?!

They cynic in me is wondering if the whole thing was cooked up to get everyone talking about it.
Not the actual event but the way it was edited.

TrendStopper · 28/08/2014 09:13

I said to my dd before last nights show started that i like all of the contestants. Think it was due to the editing compared to last years hate campaign against ruby. Then the bbc went and edited last nights show to make diana look vindictive.

Lets hope the poor editing doesnt continue.

Fudgeface123 · 28/08/2014 09:14

I still don't think it was fair he was the one to go. John Thwaite in the series before last cut his finger and didn't serve up a dish and wasn't put out...that was an accident, as was this so they shouldn't have put him out

ShadowStar · 28/08/2014 09:20

His ice-cream being all melted could have been an accident.

Him throwing the whole lot in the bin in a fit of temper wasn't.

I think if he'd presented what he could to Mary and Paul then there might have been a chance of either someone else going, or no-one going this week (and 2 next). His reaction to the incident was what completely scuppered him.

noblegiraffe · 28/08/2014 09:32

Iain was so gracious when he turned up at the end and apologetically presented his bin for a slating. I wonder how many production team members were involved in getting that to happen. When he stormed off, I bet there was a pack chasing him!

I agree that they probably called him over about his ice-cream as he asked where it was when he went over. He was pissed off that they'd taken it out, but really it was just bad ice cream and that's why there was no comeback against the Ice Cream Two.

cakecake · 28/08/2014 09:38

I agree that editing is a powerful tool (I knew someone who had been on the apprentice and they said that they used conversations/comments which were said on completely different days to create drama) however, the only reason it had been out for a short period of time was because Ian had gone to find his ice cream...it's not like they had said to him 'would you be able to put yours in your freezer as we don't have room' and her immediate reaction was to say 'he had his own freezer', if it had been a genuine accident then she could have handled the situation much better... having said that, so could he, but he took responsibility for his behaviour and owned up.

Floralnomad · 28/08/2014 09:39

He completely over reacted and hence deserved to leave . If he had presented the melting mess Norman would have gone instead .

The editing of the entire program irks me, tbh - "One minute to go, everyone!" and the camera cuts to some flustered soul with a half decorated cake. Then when the cakes are presented to Paul and Mary, said baker has created a sugarwork masterpiece on top of their cake, apparently in less than 59 seconds Hmm

HappydaysArehere · 28/08/2014 09:57

Felt really sorry for him. Kept saying if the tv audience could see it why not the people on the spot. I think he should be brought back next week or given another chance in another series. As it's prerecorded the first won't happen unless it was done to add drama and discussion on web sites. Only thing I could suggest for decision was that walking out when things go wrong doesn't go down well in professional kitchens. Couldn't believe that Diana didn't fess up. What an old cow to do that to a young man who this obviously meant more to as he could be wanting a career out of this. Didn't notice Nancy doing anything so will have to study repeat. Can't wait for Jo Brands Another Slice!

HappydaysArehere · 28/08/2014 10:02

Now I am thinking maybe it IS the editing. That would explain a lot.

Icimoi · 28/08/2014 10:07

Apparently black sesame seed ice cream is notoriously quick to melt. It certainly looked very gloopy when Iain took it out earlier.

It's worth pointing out that Chetna also had a big problem with freezing and couldn't put the topping on, but she took the sensible course of presenting what she could and got credit for it.

Icimoi · 28/08/2014 10:08

What did Mary Berry say on Radio 2?

ghostisonthecanvas · 28/08/2014 10:09

I just heard Diana on the news. The news ffs. Its hardly bloody newsworthy.
She sounded really upset. I feel very sorry for her. Imagine going on a lovely show like GBBO and being vilified like this about baked alaska.

BeCool · 28/08/2014 10:10

What an old cow to do that to a young man who this obviously meant more to as he could be wanting a career out of this.

Oh dear - so a man in his 30's is worth much more than an older woman?
Misogyny and ageism in a single sentence about baking.
Well done.

Icimoi · 28/08/2014 10:12

What did Diana say?

CambridgeBlue · 28/08/2014 10:13

I think it's awful that an elderly woman is being called names across the internet for something that happened on a reality show. I've read some really nasty comments about her looks and personality that are not even related to 'the incident' - imagine if it was your Mum or Gran being slated like that. I know you could say she put herself out there but FGS it's just a TV show!

DownByTheRiverside · 28/08/2014 10:17

It's the only 'reality' TV show I watch, I hate the aggro and 'car crash onlooker' nature of the rest of them.
I suppose I was being gullible to think that this was simply a baking show, it does look as if it was engineered to be dramatic.

Velve · 28/08/2014 10:18

I watched it this morning and was appalled at Diana not even apologising and being really indignant with the "you have your own freezer".
Then I learned about the editing and how long it had been out and I'm just really grumpy at BBC about this. Is this what the show is going to be now? They can't get enough viewers so they're trying to to create drama? How shitty to the bakers.

I still don't like how rude Diana was in that moment but Ian's reaction was terrible as well. I can sympathise with both of them as those are both reactions that I can have under pressure. Not adult, not mature, but it happens. And Ian was very dignified in the end, I thought.

They did leave Diana looking like the bad guy which could be very damaging to her. That's not on.

bamboostalks · 28/08/2014 10:21

Can't believe someone calling her "an old cow" that's really shameful. You don't even know the full story. Horrible language.

MardyBra · 28/08/2014 10:23

I'm angry with the BBC.

The Apprentice is already ruined by provocative editing.

How dare they mess with the gentle institution that is the GBBO.

Fuckers.

That is all.

ghostisonthecanvas · 28/08/2014 10:23

She said it was the editing. Cake was out 45 seconds. Iain doesn't blame her and actually called her a couple of days ago to warn her this was happening. She was just managing not to cry.

Icimoi · 28/08/2014 10:23

Agh, the link on the Shropshire Star website isn't working. Frustration!

Smooshface · 28/08/2014 10:25

I'm thinking we could be victims of the edit here too though, doubt it is as cut and dried as the programme indicated. Waiting for extra slice!
