She took Iain's ice cream out of the freezer did she not?!

OP posts:
Smilesandpiles · 28/08/2014 10:25

The whole thing was stanged and they all knew about it?

FFS. So much for a decent show then.

Smilesandpiles · 28/08/2014 10:25

ScrambledSmegs · 28/08/2014 10:26

Oh, poor Diana. I don't even think it was her that took it out, it looked more like Nancy to me. I couldn't be sure with the choppy editing though.

But whoever took it out, nobody deserves the sort of vilification she's getting online. Iain's ice cream wasn't properly set when he took it out of the machine. It was never going to set as well as some of the other ice creams. He could have served it like Chetna, but he had a tantrum and threw it in the bin. Diana couldn't have predicted that.

I wouldn't want him brought back purely for the fact that his reaction meant there was nothing to judge.

somethingbeginningwith · 28/08/2014 10:28

Haven't read the whole thread so not sure if somebody else has said this but, it may only have been out for 40 seconds, but that's because he noticed it. It could have been a lot longer if he hadn't! I still blame Dirty Diana. Never liked her anyway.

Right, going to finish reading the thread...

lilyorkshirepud · 28/08/2014 10:28

What an arse Paul was as well though! Was your meringue ok, was your sponge ok, we would like to have tried that! Nah, how about getting that witch thrown off!

ScrambledSmegs · 28/08/2014 10:30

Just saw that article in the Shropshire Star. I really feel for her Sad.

Animation · 28/08/2014 10:30

Did she take it out of the freezer - I missed that!!

He was being very nice about it if he knew.

GoblinLittleOwl · 28/08/2014 10:31

Most unpleasant and unwarranted remarks about Diana; Ian went because he destroyed his work and walked out instead of making an attempt to rescue what he had made, as any good cook would.

squoosh · 28/08/2014 10:32

Half hearted storm in a thimble.

I hope there aren't more engineered 'dramatics' next week.

Topaz25 · 28/08/2014 10:32

I don't watch the show but I think the way Diana has been treated over this and talked about online is awful. We don't know the full story and it doesn't justify bullying an older lady. At this point I think GBBO and Iain should make a public statement to clear this up because it has got out of hand. I did not realise before I read the article that the contestants are not even competing for money. This is something they take part in because it is their passion and it has been spoiled by cynical editing.

squoosh · 28/08/2014 10:33

'What an arse Paul was as well though! Was your meringue ok, was your sponge ok, we would like to have tried that! Nah, how about getting that witch thrown off!'

Pop a valium and calm down. As nice as he was he deserved to go as he went with the hissy fit instead of cobbling something together.

Paul was right.

Animation · 28/08/2014 10:33

Paul's eyes are just mesmerising by the way. Blush

mignonette · 28/08/2014 10:36

WTF does her age have to do with it?

I have never seen such patronising, ageist comments from people who seem to think that seniority = an inability to cope with life's harshness.

Enough of the 'old lady' comments. Women older than her have commanded countries.

3cutiesmum · 28/08/2014 10:38

Yes I agree. Diana was to blame and yes it was a typical northern Irish reaction (have NI family)

squoosh · 28/08/2014 10:38

Animation I fear you have just been blinded by his excessive use of wet look hair gel.

ScrambledSmegs · 28/08/2014 10:40

There is no justification for bullying anyone. Especially not over cake.

Age, sex, appearance, shoe size - not relevant, unless you're the kind of person who likes to use personal details to insult someone.

ScrambledSmegs · 28/08/2014 10:43

By-the-by, I really want the recipe for Martha's Key Lime Alaska. It looked and sounded amazing.

Quenelle · 28/08/2014 10:45

If you're going to watch a reality show enjoy it for what it is but at least have the wit to recognise that what you see in the broadcast is never exactly what happened in real time on the day.

It was cynical of the BBC to edit those scenes the way they did, but those of you who believe you know what happened, or what a woman was thinking and her alleged motives because you watched a 30 minute edit are deliberately allowing yourselves to be taken in for the sake of entertainment.

And you're ignoring the fact that these are real people you are enjoying yourselves slagging off, not some comedy baddies you can have a high old time feigning indignance and slinging insults and hateful language at.

Get a grip for fuck's sake Angry

chmnkyrebecca · 28/08/2014 10:46

Here here!!! I agree i was very shocked to see him booted out fair enough he didn't handle it with any grace but all his effort was wasted and thats frustrating especially at the hands of someone else! why didn;t she tell him and say Ian could you put this in your own freezer, to just take it out like that and leaving it was to melt was wrong and she should have been disqualified. i don't think she did it on purpose but still she destroyed his Alaska. will be watching on Fridays another slice to see what he says about it.

AWombWithoutARoof · 28/08/2014 10:48

Aside from the who did what to whom (yes, it was wrong to take it out but they were all so flustered I'd be pretty sure one of them thought the other was going to put it in another freezer), I didn't like how Iain was rather told off at the judging panel. Mary was up herself a bit there, they humiliated him, telling him off for his temper.

I'd have called them all cunts and set fire to the tent, I reckon tipping it into the bin and walking off was pretty mild.

squoosh · 28/08/2014 10:50

'I'd have called them all cunts and set fire to the tent'

Grin
squoosh · 28/08/2014 10:51

Like a jollier, more ginger Rasputin.

A witch! an old cow! Some of you need to have a look at yourselves, its a baking show, she didn't beat him over the head with a baking tray. The show looks as if it was edited to get a wee bit of drama into it.

Quenelle · 28/08/2014 10:58

Perhaps ITV should bring back 70s-style wrestling so everyone can get their fix of comedy villains and boo-hissing and go back to treating what happens on a baking show with a modicum of common sense.
