She took Iain's ice cream out of the freezer did she not?!

Mrsjayy · 28/08/2014 07:43

I dont think diana did anything it was edited to look like it was malicious I dont think it was.

Icimoi · 28/08/2014 07:52

OP, why do you say Diana kept "banging on" about him using his own freezer? I only heard her say it once.

PlumpPartridge · 28/08/2014 07:54

Former laboratory worker here - you NEVER remove anyone else's work from the area where they've placed it without consulting them first. People have killed for less!!

However, Iain did himself no favours at all by flinging it away in a pet. He did own up to having behaved badly, which was mature of him. Diana and Nancy should have bloody well apologised for the misunderstanding though.

LayMeDown · 28/08/2014 07:56

Yes I thought from the start it was dodgy editing and very unfair of the BBC. We never saw anyone take it out. I'd say the most likely situation is they were trying to fit theirs in and found his (we saw that bit). It was taken out left on nearest counter. Put theirs in and shouted over/ went over to Iain and told him. He stopped doing what he was doing walked over and said where is it? Which is when it was picked up again. The fact he came to get it so soon after it came out suggests he knew it had or was going to be removed. Very cynicalediting.

FrankelandFilly · 28/08/2014 08:08

I've just seen something on Facebook posted by someone who knows someone "in the know" that the production team cocked up and didn't have enough freezers in the tent which meant some freezers had to accommodate 3 contestants bakes.

Topaz25 · 28/08/2014 08:09

I don't watch it but caught this on buzzfeed. It looks manipulated to me. Reality shows aren't real, they create ridiculous dramas to raise ratings.

Mrsjayy · 28/08/2014 08:09

laymedown thats what I think happened was good telly though lots of gasping and oh noo in the jayhouse

Icimoi · 28/08/2014 08:10

It's not really a cock-up, is it? It would be fairly ludicrous to have 9 freezers just for one dish.

LST · 28/08/2014 08:12

She removed it therefore she should have told him. I would of broken her swans neck! I thought he was very restrained too!

HamishBamish · 28/08/2014 08:17

Did we actually see Diana take it out of the freezer? We only saw the editing version of events, which many people have already pointed out could give a completely inaccurate version of events.

I feel sorry for Diana. I very much doubt it was done maliciously and it might not have been her at all. I think the production team should make some kind of statement about it because it really has gone too far now. Some of the comments I've read are incredibly nasty and upsetting.

It's JUST a baking show FGS!

MyFairyKing · 28/08/2014 08:30

I'm loving how seriously people are taking this. Grin (Not just on here but across all social media!)

coffeeinbed · 28/08/2014 08:33

No maliciously maybe.

I think she did it to make a point and teach him a lesson - You have your own freezer!

DownByTheRiverside · 28/08/2014 08:38

Try putting a lump of home-made icecream out in 25 degrees for 40 seconds. It melts very fast

The lack of apology stunned me.

Mrsjayy · 28/08/2014 08:43

Dd1 said oh fgs mum it's just cake as I was ooooh nooing Grin

capercaillie · 28/08/2014 08:44

I think editing is probably to blame here.

When I saw Iain putting his ice-cream in the tin, I didn't think it would set in time. It didn't seem to be as 'churned' in the ice-cream maker as others and much more liquid. If it was properly frozen, then it would not have melted that quickly even in that heat. Home-made ice-cream does take a while to soften. He could also have saved something from the ice-cream that was left.

ShadowStar · 28/08/2014 08:45

But how do we know that she didn't apologise?

For all we know, the next thing out of her mouth after "don't you have your own freezer" could have been an apology that was edited out for the sake of making the episode more dramatic.

amotherfuckingquiche · 28/08/2014 08:50

just a baking show...
reality shows aren't real

Blush

Don't shatter people's illusions!

OP posts:
FrankelandFilly · 28/08/2014 08:50

Yes but when the task is to make a baked Alaska you'd think they'd get in extra freezers as they've no way of knowing how big each contestant's will be.

Mary Berry is going to be on Radio 2 in 5 minutes so we'll get the inside scoop (badum tish!)

Mrsjayy · 28/08/2014 08:50

And we dont know how long he stormed off for could have been ages he tooka hissy fit and binned his stuff it was ridiculous

Mrsjayy · 28/08/2014 08:51

Oh let us know the goss

DownByTheRiverside · 28/08/2014 08:56

So if it was edited to create a drama, if Diana's profuse apologies and remorse were taken out, does that mean that the BBC has engineered a situation where a 69 year old woman is being villified and despised by millions?
Is that what the contestants signed up for?

FrancesNiadova · 28/08/2014 09:04

Mary Berry addressed the nation on Radio 2!
She said that any suggestion of sabotage was rubbish!

Pipbin · 28/08/2014 09:04

Hopefully Mary Berry on the radio will say something that will go some way to setting the record straight.

It is quite possible that the whole taking it out of the freezer and putting it on the side Iain finding it thing was so short that Diana didn't realise the impact.

I do feel for her and I hope she saw the program before it went out. I can't imagine how she would have felt watching that and seeing how she was being protrayed.

maddy68 · 28/08/2014 09:04

www.shropshirestar.com/entertainment/2014/08/28/i-was-made-a-scapegoat-by-bake-off-makers-says-shropshires-diana-beard/

Seems it was in the editing. It was only out for 40 seconds. However.... Anyone rise would gave said ian, Can you put your dish n your own freezer, I need the room!

FrankelandFilly · 28/08/2014 09:04

Hmm, Mary was a bit rubbish. She just said it wasn't sabotage and that Iain should have offered something for judging.
