I'd have done the same, stormed off, had a cry, got a taxi home, cried a bit more....

Proper grown up, me.

Dreadful editing. #justicefordirtydiana

When you look back it was pretty obvious that it was never going to set anyway, in the previous shot of him looking at the ice cream it was a liquid pool. And why wasn't he using his own freezer, anyway?

That bloody pencil behind the ear has got to go.

Yes totally her fault!

Also, it was poppy seed ice cream.

Rank.

I think throwing it out would have been my reaction too....

Yep, chucking it in the bin with a big "Oh FUCK IT!"

Woah yabu. His ice cream was out the freezer for about half a minute, not long enough to liquidize it. He threw a very unfortunate paddy, they had to get rid of him. I hope Diana isn't on social media, Shes hardly an evil witch as cited on Twitter.

This will give Jo Brand something to get her teeth into in Extra Slice! I don't fall for the hype, me, oh no!
Did you know that they've taken gullible out of the Oxford English Dictionary?

I could have throttled that bloody swan.

My god, taking someone else's out of the freezer, how low can you get? I used to work in university communal research labs (where you're effectively competing against each other for funding etc) and we would have shunned anyone who did something like that.

Who was it that Mary Berry said the not acceptable thing to? I saw it in the beginning preview bit but didn't seem to see it in the show?

BurnThisDiscoDown · 27/08/2014 22:07

And I would have struggled not to push the melty cake into Diana's face in a custard pie fashion if I had been Iain. (Before anyone flames me I wouldn't have done, but would have really really wanted to, and maybe had an Ally Mcbeal style hallucination)

She was saying what Ian did was not acceptable.

While it may have only been out 40 secs, and editing is editing. Would she remove somebody else's cake from the oven and not bother mentioning it until they came to have a look?

The lady involved in custard gate last year was horrified and apologetic. A much more palatable and sympathetic reaction than "you've got your own freezer".

The bigger mystery is why Martha who was the technical winner lost out to Richard who was quite far behind. Don't get it.

HalfSpamHalfBrisket · 27/08/2014 22:18

I was convinced from the edit of Diana looking shocked at the start of the show that she was going to get chucked out for sabotage. Unnecessary, cheap editing BBC1!
We do not need Bake Off to turn in to X Factor. Next thing, they will start leaving a massive gap before announcing who's leaving - " And the next person to leave the Bake Off kitchen is... .... .... ... ... ... ... ..." Grrr.

And yes, why wan't Martha even considered for Star Baker? She won the technical and her key lime alaska looked fab. Something is a bit wrong here.

i thought Diana was in the wrong
but ffs all this outrage over a baking tv show

odd

Editing is a powerful tool. Diana may well have apologised, but we didn't see it. After feeling anoyed at her initially, I feel sorry for her being portrayed as a villain. We weren't there so don't actually know what happened.

As someone said earlier they need to be very careful with the dramatic editing - the main reason many people watch GBBO but not other reality shows is due to the gentle, low key nature of it. It's great viewing and there's no need to try and make it 'exciting' - if they do they're missing the point of why it's so popular.

I'm not that keen on Diana but think she's been a bit unfairly picked on here although it would have been better not to have touched another contestant's dish or at least to have told him she had.

I am really saddened by this actually :(
If this is what GBBO is going to be like now on bbc1 I won't be tuning in :(

squoosh it was black sesame seed ice cream, not poppy seed. Do pay attention dear. Such mistakes can have huge backlash.

BurnThis I think MB was referring to the fact that Iain chucked out his baked alaska and they had nothing to judge.

I don't think it was an intentional act on Diana's part. She just forgot to put it back in,then when Iain found it she was too embarrassed to make an immediate apology, after which it was too late! He should have confronted her rather than act like a spoilt toddler. Her swan was OK but she won't win anyway methinks as if she did this story would already have hit the press. There are kids starving in the world by the way....

I don't think we know the full story either - it was poorly edited and I guess there were time constraints limiting how they dealt with it. Or the producers just chose to flame the fans of the drama.

I was horrified when Iain realised she had taken it out but it could well have been an accident rather than a deliberate act of sabotage. They were all under pressure and I was going nuts with all the non-freezing issues they were having along with all the door opening so it must have been pretty tense and pressured in the kitchen.

Was it Iain who at one point was standing there with the freezer door open watching it not freezing? Maybe several of them - I was shouting at the telly "close the fucking door and leave it!"

And why was Iain not using his designated freezer? Putting his ice cream into other contestants freezer will lessen their chances of getting their own stuff frozen. So it's possible he wasn't really playing fair.

Further Iain could have saved a core of the ice cream and presented something to the judges but he fell victim to his own petulance and threw the sponge out with the ice cream. If he had held it together the older chap probably would have gone this week.

I was sad to see Iain go as I really liked him - but I'm not convinced he has anyone but himself to blame if blames needs to be laid (and let's face it, it probably doesn't as someone has to go every week and I never felt Iain was going to be the winner!)
