OP posts:
Lily31 · 28/08/2014 16:27

*back lol

Pipbin · 28/08/2014 16:27

But I can't listen to stuff as I'm pretending to do work.

Beeyump · 28/08/2014 16:31

The bake of a cake competition! Grin

dexter73 · 28/08/2014 16:31

It is an interview on the radio and she says she took it out, as it was in her freezer space, and asked who it belonged to. She said she didn't know why Iain had used her freezer as he was working at the other side of the tent. He came and took it away and it was out of the freezer for 40 seconds.

Icimoi · 28/08/2014 16:31

Dough is kneaded and then baked thus killing off all the paw sweat.

But cake icing, to which I also referred, isn't, and no-one gets excited about that being manipulated by people using their bare hands. And how sweaty do your hands get when you've long finished baking and are looking in a freezer?

noblegiraffe · 28/08/2014 16:32

Poor Diana, if that was her last episode then they should have edited it to show her in the best light so she went out on a high. Horrible thing to do to her. I wonder how they will manage it though? They can't shorten the series and it would be a bit rubbish to have an episode where they knew from the start no one would leave.

Maybe they bring Iain back! A triumphant return!

squoosh · 28/08/2014 16:35

'But cake icing, to which I also referred, isn't, and no-one gets excited about that being manipulated by people using their bare hands. And how sweaty do your hands get when you've long finished baking and are looking in a freezer?'

I just think it looked grim her desperately trying to manipulate the melting slop back on to the cake.

As for cake icing, I never go anywhere near the foul stuff.

noblegiraffe · 28/08/2014 16:37

I can't stand watching people kneading bread etc while wearing wedding rings, so disgusting. Yet they all do it!

BeCool · 28/08/2014 16:48

I could never watch Jennifer Patterson (2 Fat ladies) cook as she has long painted fingernails and load of rings - made me feel quite ill.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 28/08/2014 16:54

When I was working as an operating theatre nurse, noblegiraffe, I remember a consultant surgeon telling me that he didn't have to remove his wedding ring before scrubbing up and putting his gloves on because, as long as it was a high enough carat, it killed the germs underneath it.

The Radio Times have posted on Facebook that she left the following week due to illness.

ghostisonthecanvas · 28/08/2014 17:04

I made an ice cream cake once for a friends son. It was blue. A concoction of ice cream and meringue mess He cried when he saw it. I still feel guilty almost 30 years later Blush Totally irrelevant I knowGrin

So confused... am I angry about it or not??

dexter73 · 28/08/2014 17:10

I agree with that too greyhoundgymnastics. It's turned out to be really shitty.

BeCool · 28/08/2014 17:12

Greyhound on MN too - name calling etc up thread. See thread title "I blame Diana".

It's a disgrace.

Garnett · 28/08/2014 17:12

"Co-host Sue Perkins insisted there had been "no sabotage" and that the situation was "getting a little inflamed for my liking".

"This is a show about CAKES," the comedienne and broadcaster continued on Twitter. "Please, let's save the ire for real stuff.""

Errrr, that's what I want to say to everyone who watches the show and especially to that wanker Paul Hollywood.

Doesn't that tweet slightly undermine the whole premise of the show?

Downamongtherednecks · 28/08/2014 17:16

Is it normal for people to start sending death threats to elderly ladies about freezer-space for puddings? Says everything you need to know about Reality TV.

People do so like a good group mobbing, be it about freezer space or something more serious. Poor Woman getting death threats over it.

Soop · 28/08/2014 17:21

I agree with greyhoundgymnastics and others, especially having listened to her local radio interview.

It's the programme editors who ought to be feeling guilty about the way this was portrayed. The shots may be real but viewers deserved a clearer explanation about how long his ice-cream was out of the freezer and exactly what happened, so that this awful treatment of an amateur baker didn't then happen.

In business (and baking) you have to deal with adversity and get on with it, and produce the best you can. If Ian had stuck his ice-cream in his freezer, taken a walk outside to calm down and then baked a smaller version with whatever ice-cream was left then he might have stayed.

Downamongtherednecks · 28/08/2014 17:32

The editors are idiots, though, to have tried to create drama by cutting it like that. Don't they realise that people like me only watched GBBO and only allowed our children to watch it because it WASN'T a cut-throat posers-on-parade, like all the other Reality TV? Way to kill your product, as we all suspected would happen when it moved from BBC2 to BBC1. Even my primary-age daughter said she could see that it had been deliberately edited to "get Diana". I assume they will now do the same thing to Sewing Bee.

Iain- I think Ian behaved like a spoilt baby throwing his toys out of teh pram.He showed disrespect to the judges and the whole competition.

Diana - I am horrified at the irresponsible editing which effectively turned an innocent elderly woman into a public enemy.
Heads need to roll for this
