fourforksache · 27/08/2014 07:49

my son has compressed whatever down to "tevs". it's bloody Angry Angry Angry

CouldntGiveAMonkeysToss · 27/08/2014 07:50

YANBU! I hate them all! I too didn't know what natch meant until this thread though I've seen a lot on mumsnet.

Piccarcas · 27/08/2014 08:22

I would rather hear ridiculous sayings than offensive words.

Spickle · 27/08/2014 08:23

My daughter talks a lot! However, her sentences are twice as long as they need to be, for example:

"I thought like, I would go shopping like to get some new shoes like and my friend like said like we would park in this like free car park which is like 5 minutes like from the shops like........."

Not hard to guess which word drives me insane and instead of listening to what she's saying, I find myself counting how many "likes" in each sentence, aarrgh!

Kimaroo · 27/08/2014 08:26

Haha I love it! I'm 58 and make up my own words to the embarrassment of my teens.

Kimaroo · 27/08/2014 08:27

Ok, I use them when speaking, never when writing. Obvs.

JustAShopGirl · 27/08/2014 08:31

I don't care about whatevs, lil, or any of that, but neither like nor understand phrases like "I fucking hate" .... each to their own

(fucking used as an adverb does not really give much indication of the degree of hatred)

Notso · 27/08/2014 09:04

I don't mind them really. They sound a bit daft but they've been around for ages.
I embarrassed DD by thinking YOLO meant YO, Hello though.

I hate the use of fucking every other word. Even worse like and fucking.
"I just like fucking went down the fucking shops like for some fucking ale like"
Phrases like 'boils my piss' 'pissed on chips/cornflakes' annoy me on here whys everyone always pissing about the place. Also loathe 'are you on glue?' and 'guys' or 'folks'.

Showy · 27/08/2014 09:16

Oh pots on here. "We had spag bol for lunch so we're just having jacket pots and picky bits for tea lol". Makes my insides spontaneously turn inside out. That might be the worst thing I've ever typed.

Kimaroo · 27/08/2014 09:17

Yeah, pots and toms make me squirm.

JapaneseMargaret · 27/08/2014 09:25

My BF and I use these words in private company, text, etc, all the time.

We think we're hilar. Luckily no-one else is exposed to it.

To be fair, I draw the line at 'holibobs'.

Wailywailywaily · 27/08/2014 09:27

Surprised no one has mentioned chillax shudder

My 4 yo DS uses eps for episodes but thats because that is how its written on freeview.

vladthedisorganised · 27/08/2014 09:33

Aaaaaaargh showy - that's the worst!

Twee slang - jacket pots, kiddiwinks, eats, lil, etc etc - annoys the hell out of me. The TOWIE-totes-reem-amazeballs-speak is somehow more toe-curling to me than when half of the UK started speaking in Baltimore slang when the Wire was on - at least that was so out of place it was quite funny, particularly when 37 year old middle managers from Swindon started referring to purchasing a second Americano from Costa as a 're-up'

But yo, I'm just illin with that shit. Grin

Mrsjayy · 27/08/2014 09:35

I heard hilair for hilarious recently I wanted to punch them in the face they are 43 years old I did restrain myself Grin

murphys · 27/08/2014 09:36

Oh yes and what about "mare".

Cannot stand it when people say that. "What a mare of a day". Angry

MrsCosmopilite · 27/08/2014 09:38

YY to everything on this thread!

"Mac and cheese" - No, it is macaroni cheese. A dish with macaroni in a cheese sauce. Not macaroni with cheese on the side. I'm guessing people are now too dim to be able to spell macaroni.

Has anyone encountered "aswell"? Do people now know it is two words?

Bunbaker · 27/08/2014 09:39

I hate the second word in your title Smile

murphys · 27/08/2014 09:39

And if I message ds for something, he replies with "K". Really, how much more time will it take to type OK instead!! Angry

Mrsjayy · 27/08/2014 09:39

There is a guy from towie who says hashtag out loud I have seen him on other programmes bloody HASHTAG Angry

Mrsjayy · 27/08/2014 09:41

Texting teenagers drives me insane hello dd blah blah blah reply K seriously what a waste of a text 10p that k costs

MarkWrightsLonelyBraincell · 27/08/2014 09:49

'Picky bits' just gave me that brain tickle sensation. I'd find food described as picky bits so unappealing, but I am a bit daft like that.

I can't stand adults using childish language. "She is sooooo horrid, nasty and mean, but the food was yum".

pudcat · 27/08/2014 09:54

I would sooner hear and see these words rather than the the second word in your title.

TheHandbagOfGlory · 27/08/2014 09:59

I've noticed on my Facebook newsfeed people buying tix and going for dins, but what irrationally annoys me is people saying they are going for "dinner and drinks", as if you have to specify the drinks part.

I've spent years just going for dinner without realising that unless I said I was also having drinks then it would be assumed that I had my dinner totally dry without even a sip of water.

I know this is irrational but I can't help it.

sashh · 27/08/2014 10:05

I know someone who actually says 'lol'.

I mean if you are you are laughing not speaking and if you are not then why say it?

Germgirl · 27/08/2014 10:06

I have an ex-colleague on my FB who's ambition in life is to be on TOWIE, consequently his feed is littered with 'reem', 'totes' 'OhEmGeeeee'etc. his new one, which took a bit of working out is 'Sank'. Which means 'Something'. Say 'something' in an over-the-top Essex accent & it does indeed sound like 'sank'. But does that mean it should be written down as such??!!
