to not find the toddler swearing funny?

The ice bucket challenge video. (Don't think I have seen a thread about it)

I just don't find it funny and I think it's quite disgusting that a child of that age (no older than 4) would say "fucking hell"

That little girl is apparently two! I was more shocked by the fact that anyone would pour cold water over a toddler than by the swearing. Sadly many children today grow up in homes where foul language is normal. I hate to hear it from anyone no matter what age. When I was teacher training an elderly tutor started the first lecture with:" A young child learns from experience. As a teacher you will be responsible for many of those experiences so be very aware of what you are doing and saying in front of them." Substitute parent for teacher.

Impala77 · 27/08/2014 11:27

Uncle T, I too have been told I'm old fashioned and that this is part of everyday language "these days" and I should get a grip!! Well sorry but it's down to sloppy parenting and being too bone idol to watch your language!! Just another example of society going down the toilet! People tell me I get worked up over small things (and I admit I do) but small things tend to turn into big things and it's a slippery slope. What is the point of good parents breaking their backs bringing up their kids properly just for them to be dragged down by kids whose parents couldn't be arsed? Sorry to rant but I'm very passionate about the state of some of today's parents!!!

Bambambini · 27/08/2014 12:04

Well our child did similar at that age, if you had heard him you would probably have thought he hears this language at home all the time. He doesn't (only on weekends). We were shocked and mortified - especially as it was so unexpected.

Not saying that is the case here but don't be too sure it couldn't happen to any of you. And we did laugh about it later and still do.

Putting it on FB or such is another issue.

LittlePeaPod · 27/08/2014 12:19

Bambi. You were mortified as most of us would be. That toddlers parent are in no way mortified. They are clearly proud of it if they thinks its fine to post it on FB.

thegreylady · 27/08/2014 12:32

I agree with LittlePeaPod the child's parents put that video on YouTube. Even if you (I wouldn't) smile in private, surely you wouldn't want the world to hear your toddler swearing like that.

Impala77 · 27/08/2014 12:36

Correct littlepeapod, the parents reaction is the key thing. As bambi said I too would be mortified and embarrassed and would certainly want to know who had been swearing in front of her, I certainly wouldn't video it and share it with the world!!

Thebodyloveschocolateandwine · 27/08/2014 13:19

Exactly. Of course toddlers hear dodgy words, mine said 'bloody hell' once but I didn't film it, laugh in front of them
And then post it for all to hear. I was ashamed they had heard it In the first place.

Shameless.

WineWineWine · 27/08/2014 21:45

She's 3, she wanted to do it and they used warm water.
The local paper tracked her down.

ArabellaRockerfella · 27/08/2014 21:50

Glad it's not just me that was horrified by this video. She can only have been 2-3 and could barely enunciate her words but by golly the f* word was a s clear as a bell! And the dad laughing just made me more upset :(

PistolWhipped · 27/08/2014 21:52

I laughed out loud but in the way you laugh out loud when your nan bends over and farts. It's the shock, I suppose.

Madamecastafiore · 27/08/2014 21:53

I posted I thought it wasn't funny.

Why do people even think chucking cold water over a v small child is funny, regardless of the swearing, which is also unfunny, isn't it some sort of bloody abuse.

Can you imagine if someone posted on here before all this water malarkey that they throw iced water over their toddler?

CatThiefKeith · 27/08/2014 22:05

I assumed it was dubbed....Blush

That's a very big voice for such a little girl surely?

Tynk · 27/08/2014 23:46

I was really shocked - unfortunately just as I was about to watch it my 6yo daughter was stood by me, as I had already seen a few ice bucket challenges I thought I'd let her see this cute little girl do hers... Lesson learnt! I quickly ended it and hoped that she hadn't registered what was said!

HaroldLloyd · 27/08/2014 23:57

I posted I didn't think it was funny and got told I had a stick up my arse. Grin

I think it's the guffawing and uploading onto Facebook I didn't think was very funny.

I know kids can parrot swear words which isn't in itself something I get stick arsed about.

ACheesePuff · 28/08/2014 00:17

www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/midlands-news/tracked-down-swearing-ice-bucket-7680634

She lives with her grandparents most of the time. She is 3, her grandmother is only 40! Can't magine becoming a grandmother at 37Shock

I was told off for saying chavs swear and reprimanded for thinking swearing in front of children shows lack of class Hmm.

ACheesePuff · 28/08/2014 00:18

Still think it's funny TBH.

Pastperfect · 28/08/2014 07:51

It's sad.

For that to be her gut reaction shows the sort of language she must hear everyday.

KanyeBeArsed · 28/08/2014 08:04

I assumed it was dubbed

OF COURSE IT WAS DUBBED!!! (Thank the lord for you Keith)

It's pretty apparent from the odd pixelating over the mouth, the fact that she is very oddly articulate for such a wee one and she isn't even facing the camera when the f bomb is dropped.

Really enjoyed it, but's a human cartoon folks!

Can anyone tell me for sure that I'm wrong and I'm afraid interviewing her grandparents doesn't count as 'for sure'.

slightlyconfused85 · 28/08/2014 08:22

Yanbu. It isn't funny to see a young child swearing like that.

BuggerLumpsAnnoyed · 28/08/2014 08:58

I think the video you're thinking about is from my town

Ludoole · 28/08/2014 09:10

When I hear the language used by some parents on the school playground im not surprised. I regularly see parents swearing while talking to toddlers in prams Hmm

Groovee · 28/08/2014 09:15

I found it vulgar!

CatThiefKeith · 28/08/2014 09:17

Thanks Kanye, nice not to be a lone voice. of reason Wink

KanyeBeArsed · 28/08/2014 09:26

Have a horrible feeling we're pissing into the wind here Keith....but I still say we're right!

I mean it's surely in the same league as

Grin
Devilforasideboard · 28/08/2014 09:28

Apparently she has a little brother called Shankley-Gary. I'm going to have another baby just so I can call it Shankley-Gary.
