to not find the toddler swearing funny?

The ice bucket challenge video. (Don't think I have seen a thread about it)

I just don't find it funny and I think it's quite disgusting that a child of that age (no older than 4) would say "fucking hell"

I admit it, I laughed. But then my face did this ShockShock

Would be mortified if she was mine, and I agree with the pp that it came out like it was completely normal to say it Sad

TortoiseUpATreeAgain · 26/08/2014 22:24

A small child who doesn't routinely swear but does it as a one-off on the worst possible occasion is funny, IMO, if you aren't the mortified parent (example: friend's toddler DS who when his mother dropped a tray of dishes remarked matter-of-factly to his grandmother "That's fuck...". He'd never done it before. He's never done it since. He just seemed to have picked the worst possible moment, in front of the world's worst possible person, to decide to share his knowledge of colloquial English).

A small child who swears routinely isn't funny.

hollie84 · 26/08/2014 22:26

Tipping a bucket of water over a 3 year old = not funny imo

3 year old swearing = pretty funny imo

Unless it's your own 3 year old Blush

catgirl1976 · 26/08/2014 22:27

God no.

I swear like a trooper but not in front of 2.5 year old DS. I would be mortified if he swore.

Mind you, the other day he did announce "I'm drinking shitloads of water today mummy" after over hearing DH comment to me how thirsty he was Blush

Cue me and DH rushing around after him say "Shedloads darling. You're drinking shedloads" in a pathetic attempt to cover it up.

We lived in fear of a call from nursery for about 2 weeks after that Blush

Luckily he has not said either "shitloads" or "shedloads" since. And nor has DH after the talking to he got from me Angry Blush

Tiswineoclocksomewhere · 26/08/2014 22:30

I laughed when I watched it but I honestly thought it was dubbed and staged - you know like the dog who's owner is telling him about the meat the cat ate? Feel a bit daft now Blush

I do find littlies swearing funny, but as others have mentioned, when it's not my own child! Mine are old enough now to not do it innocently so seeing a toddler do it is kind of nostalgic in a way Grin

Username12345 · 26/08/2014 22:30

YANBU

The kids I've seen swear are not brought up with any other manners.

catsareeasier · 26/08/2014 22:30

Haven't seen this and have no desire to so please don't link, but have I understood this thread correctly?

Someone threw iced water over a toddler and you're worried about the language she uses?

I think there are more important issues here, surely!

monkeyfacegrace · 26/08/2014 22:31

Oh give over.

The video is fucking hilarious. Totally unexpected and made me GrinGrinGrin

MeanAndMeaslyMiddleAges · 26/08/2014 22:31

I agree that context is everything. A child swearing innocently and as a one off I do find funny - when it's clear this isn't the norm. A child that young swearing routinely without correction I find sad and a bit telling.

scrivette · 26/08/2014 22:33

I saw this after so many people had reposted it, I thought it was awful that they poured the water over her in the first instance (unless it was warm) and it sounded as if it was everyday language. I didn't find it funny at all.

amarone · 26/08/2014 22:35

I'd be mortified if it was my child, but nevertheless I did find it funny.

OhTheDrama · 26/08/2014 22:36

Yes this video is all over my news feed at the moment. I did laugh more out of shock and disbelief than anything else, wasn't expecting that! You have to question the parents judgement in plastering it all over Facebook, that's wrong IMO.

amarone · 26/08/2014 22:41

You are right OhTheDrama, I wouldn't have posted that on anywhere.

UpUpAndAway123 · 26/08/2014 22:43

YANBU, it was awful.....both the swearing and the pouring of water over the toddler Shock

DaisyFlowerChain · 26/08/2014 22:44

I'd be mortified, who on earth would think it was acceptable behaviour much less share it as a proud moment Hmm

I don't like to hear adults swear let alone children. DS would be in trouble if he ever tried swearing in the house or whilst out with us. I obviously can't control his lone movements when he's older.

Lottiedoubtie · 26/08/2014 22:49

It's horrible. But I am faintly relieved you all know about it. I saw it briefly after my MIL Shock shared it and I assumed it was someone she knew/was there. The fact it's a viral thing and I'm not likely to come accross the parent of the poor kid is reassuring!

Owchyleg · 26/08/2014 22:49

Made me cringe.

youmakemydreams · 26/08/2014 22:52

Sorry I'm with monkeyface and I am probably a bit po faced about thighs other people find funny.

I laughed because she was so cute and little nominating her people then that came out. Sorry but I laughed and have laughed seeing it again.

SublimeCorpse · 26/08/2014 22:53

I'd be ashamed if my 2 year old swore like that. As someone else said it rolled off her tongue like it was the most normal thing in the world.

I have a friend who swears like a trooper, constantly and always has done, even in front of her 4 kids. In 10 years I've not heard a single swear word leave their mouths.

WineWineWine · 26/08/2014 22:53

She didn't react like it was ice water, it was probably luke warm.
She knew it was happening, had agreed to it and laughed so she clearly enjoyed it. No issues at all with that.

However, I have never found young children swearing even remotely funny. It's awful.

teeththief · 26/08/2014 22:55

We've had water fights with our DC since they were toddlers. They would have loved to have had a bucket of water over their heads aged 2.

The fact that this little girl swears in context at the age of 2 or 3 is awful IMO.

Nancy66 · 26/08/2014 22:55

I laughed. A lot

vanillavelvet · 26/08/2014 22:55

I didn't like it either. It made me feel sad.

The people on my FB who reposted it and commented that they found it hilarious don't have children. Maybe my sense of humour has changed since having children?

WaltJesseMikeGus · 26/08/2014 22:58

I've already posted this but I saw one challenge where they poured water over a 4 year old boy (a friends nephew) and the boy started screaming and crying! And they were laughing.

The little boy had obviously seen videos and family members doing it so like any normal child he wanted to copy. They could have poured warm water over him if he was that insistent about doing it.

I saw another comment similar to this too today.

I don't see how its relevant whether someone has children or not. Her parents clearly found it hilarious and decided to post it.
