Well, Dione, that's a start anyway. Let's hope they move on to the rest.

alemci · 28/08/2014 16:01

garlic sorry yoyr dad was so horrible.

GarlicAugustus · 28/08/2014 16:12

Oh, it's okay, he died and I did therapy ... can't live in the past, but do live with its consequences. Thank you, alemci.

The Independent has established that at least three senior officials employed by Rotherham council during the period covered by the inquiry now hold high-ranking roles at other local authorities.

Darkesteyes · 28/08/2014 16:13

JESUS those poor girls.

unreal I totally agree.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 28/08/2014 17:21

I realise we have two thread running on this subject, and as I said on the other one ...

Amidst all the understandable outrage (my own included) I'm trying to take a wide view of this whole mess, especially given that one day - and all too son, sadly - this will be "yesterday's news"

For me this is more about entrenched attitudes than individul crimes, and in time I worry that the extreme little Englanders (who luckily we don't see too often on here) will return to blaming everything on "these dreadful foreigners / what else do you expect", the competitive liberals (who sadly we see all too often) will continue insisting race has absolutely nothing to do with it and that everything's being twisted, and the polce, social servces, etc, will maintain that nothing can possibly be their fault - not me guv, oh no, it's those awful cuts innit

For progress to be made calmer heads will have to prevail and attitudes/perceptions will need to be revisited by all, especially those who have come to believe they can dominate the agenda and silence others by shouting the loudest

Frankly, I believe that for some, that woouldn't be very popular ...

MrSheen · 28/08/2014 20:48

Just read that a South Yorkshire police officer has been charged with causing a 15-year-old girl to engage in sexual activity. He was arrested last November and charged on August 21st.

GarlicAugustus · 28/08/2014 21:18

Oh, good grief. I wish I could say I'm surprised - I am, but only that he's been charged!

It is encouraging that more of this is coming out now. Rotherham council's got balls - let's hope the rest follow suit, with at least as much rigour.

Anotherchapter · 28/08/2014 21:32

Shock what fuck has been going on in this country. Words fail me.

Suzannewithaplan · 28/08/2014 22:40

There are bound to be police officers taking part in the CSA, why else would they be so rigorous in not intervening to prosecute the perpetrators.

I've been following these threads since the Savile news broke. This case uses race as it's excuse to pick it's victims and for cowards not to act. The reality as I see it from all that I've read is there are many groups of mass organised CSE all over the world in every corner of humanity targeting the worlds most vulnerable children. The majority of the worlds population are so horrified by the very thought of CSE they cope with any information about it by denying that it is happening and when confronted by hard evidence find any excuse to try to discredit the evidence. This becomes a huge problem when it is the very people who are meant to protect us refuse to believe, Police, Government, etc.
The base of this story is the same as any other CSE case, some how a group of like minded people realise they all want the same thing and realise that it would be easier if they shared their victims, as they have similar up bringings they already are aware of what they consider vulnerable children and proceed to groom who they need too to gain access of what they want. Groups of like minded people might socialise together, as in this case, work together Celebrities, Politician's, Religious leaders, Care staff or the latest group found each other on the internet, to name a few. They consider different groups of children vulnerable, the desperately poor parents who will sell their children to live (web abuse) those in care (this may be due to chaotic/abusive homes, parental loss, those with SN), because they are their own children, again there will be more.
Because ours news is sanitised for us by the press we often may not realise that the cases that make it into the news may well miss out some key facts (maybe don't start reading the court case notes published by the courts online) and because the CPS only press charges that they believe will have a chance of conviction the organisation elements may not make it into the main news if they are even investigated by the Police in the first place.
Remember Butler Sloss didn't want to embarrass a clergy man refused to name him in a report. Several Police forces are currently under investigation over failing to act over Ian Watkins. South London Press reported a paedophile S&M dungeon in Lambeth Police station. It goes on and on. So yes this case is about race, but this is part of a much bigger CAE picture and that has nothing to do about race. Then of course there are other forms of CSA which are more individual.

Childrenofthestones · 28/08/2014 23:00

Ooh...ooh....I know this one, it was in the report.
Political correctness and a consequential fear of being accused of racism/islamophobia.
If you work in the police or for a local authority, being accused of racism and it going down on your records is only out trumped by being accused of paedophillia itself.

unrealhousewife · 29/08/2014 00:22

What was i saying earlier about target oriented services being a contradiction to the true purpose of public service?

The latest SW has said that SS deliberately dropped names from their at risk list in order to reach targets.

Beastofburden · 29/08/2014 07:29

I agree with puzzled. But I am also baffled and made increasingly suspicious by the very lenient sentencing we are seeing for various violent crimes, and also by the very generous interpretation of the human rights act.

whois · 29/08/2014 08:22

This abuse scandal is horrific. Performed by an evil group of Pakistani Muslims, police turned a blind eye and treated the victims with contempt. Labour councilors hushed it up 'for fear of rocking the multicultural boat' and even worse some of the 'community leaders' used their position to get the locations of homes where some of the victims were hiding. According to the independent.

Fucking disgusting.

But remember, it's not just the men involved. Most of them will have had mothers, sisters or wives who knew or suspected what was going on and didn't do a dam thing about it.

And in this case, it absolutely is about race. It's about the Pakistani Muslims targeting 'white trash' because the women in their community are so pure and modest with their heads covered and being controlled by their fathers, brothers, uncles, husbands. There is fundamental lack of respect for woman at the heart of that community and that is a huge problem.

If this had been a group of EDL members taping Asian girls you can guarantee something would have been done a lot sooner.

For those in Greater Manchester - phone in discussion coming up on BBC Radio Manchester 9-10am on this very topic. Should be interesting.

ponyonaduvet · 29/08/2014 08:46

I have heard about an investigation in to a possible gang in Glasgow targeting looked after children in children's homes/foster care. Very vulnerable children with few people to look out for them and very little trust in the system to report anything to.

Scaredycat3000 · 29/08/2014 09:20

Whois it is simply not true that
If this had been a group of EDL members taping Asian girls you can guarantee something would have been done a lot sooner.
Nothing is done ever until it is to late to make a difference. What about Savile, what about the Lambeth care homes, what about Haut de la garenne?

MrSheen · 29/08/2014 09:43

There has been enough sexual violence committed by white perpetrators and ignored/swept under the carpet to suggest that this wouldn't be the case. I'm not convinced race was the main factor in stopping this. I think a lot of people in authority simply couldn't see the problem so ignored the girls. I think the John Humphries 'what could you have done to stop it' attitude towards victims was/is widely held. Most people would rather be thought of as a bit racist that the conduits to sexual violence, yet that's exactly what the authorities were so maybe they just didn't see the sexual violence as anything worth getting worked up over. Either that, or they were in it up to their necks themselves.

A police officer has been charged with causing a 15-year-old girl to engage in sexual activity. Is he the tip of the iceberg? Forensic evidence has been 'lost'. Was it really lost or was it 'lost' on the orders of someone who had something to hide. It seems inconceivable that a bag of semen marked clothes could vanish out of an evidence room. It also seems unlikely that someone would say 'we better bury this case in case we look racist' because I'd bet my house that South Yorkshire police have arrested plenty of Asian people over different crimes over the years.

Bambambini · 29/08/2014 10:27

The way these men treated these girls is disgusting but the attitude of the police and ss (those we trust to keep us safe) towards vulnerable children - well females really is a bigger problem. Tells us certain people don't matter, don't deserve protection and justice.
