I have been trying to find a wedding venue for some months now and feel like im going round in circles. Our biggest problem is we dont want to have a formal sit down meal but would love to bring in our own caterers however if I mention this to hotels they look at me and h2b like we have 2 heads? Looking at venues all over scotland. Grin

We went to the best wedding ever a few weeks ago, didn't speak to a single guest who thought otherwise :)

it was a camping biker weekender huge marquees in a field in the middle of nowhere - one with a stage at the end for bands, one filled with tables laden with veggie food, another with huge fridges full of beer, wine & soft drinks, 2 bouncy castle type things, an ice cream van, hog roast, burger van - lots of tables & chairs outside for good weather & plenty if space to take them inside if the weather changed - no sit down meal - all help yourself

Camping & portaloos around the edge of the field & a couple of mini coaches running backwards & forwards to transport those who weren't camping

It was brilliant !

On a beach in Cuba, so simple-no hassle. Loved every single minute of it.

We got married in a Register Office, and had our reception in a local cricket club. We hired outside caterers for both our reception and evening do.
It was nice as it had its own bar with bar staff (and really cheap booze!) and we were free to chose our own caterers and band. Cost us £30 for room hire with 2 bar staff to have the room from 3pm till close (which was midnight).

Serious question- why on earth do you want to go to the expense of entertaining 150 people plus evening guests for the 10th wedding in your family in 2 years?

I really wouldn't bother- your family won't appreciate it one little bit- it will just be 'this months wedding'- get married on a beach and use the left over money for something you really want,

Not going to be much help. Married in the chapel of Trinity College Dublin.

Then decamped to Moyglare Manor in Co. Kildare. This is now sadly closed.

We had tiny wedding. Family only.

It would have been nice to just get married on a beach, on a holiday, only us. Or in the open air on a hilltop, kind of a nature worship wedding.

Keep it special for you two. It's your life event.

Intensive care unit. The wedding doesn't matter - the marriage does

If you want curry and 150 people, just Google 'Indian weddings' and your location. For example.

Church, then a different church hall with a licensed bar.

We chose our caterers, and the church provided bar-staff - we provided our own alcohol.
this meant we could have a free bar for all guests.

Beer brought at cost price from church, wines and spirits we sorted (few years ago- lots of French trips :) ) Plus we had the option of buying more spirits (at cost) from church if we run out on the night!

Vows in a cave, drinks and photos among some beautiful fairies, Reception on a farm.

Crail Community Hall, cost very little to rent for the whole weekend. Had outside caterers come in. Was originally a church so is plenty big enough. We had 100 during the day and maybe an extra 10 at night (most people had to travel so had them the full day). We had a Humanist ceremony and ceilidh dancing at night. Was wonderful Smile

We married in a church then held the reception at a hotel. It wasn't big enough for our evening so we had that eleswhere then returned to our suite at our hotel.

My brother had a church wedding then a marquee on SiL's farm field, it was a great day with bouncy castle included.
