..to think its ok to put clothes back in wardrobe after wearing?!

Ok so it's my first AIBU and I'm scared, so be nice. I'm just intrigued to know others thoughts are on this...

My DH is a very naturally clean, neat, organised person. I'm not, but I've worked at it since we got married 12 years ago and things are in a reasonable state now..

So, the crux of the problem. DH believes that once clothes have been worn, they can't be returned to the wardrobe/chest of drawers until they've been washed, as they might contaminate the clean clothes in there. I've gone along with this as he did the laundry when we first got married and both worked. Now I do mine and the DCs as I'm a SAHM I've been thinking about it more and it bugs me because...

  1. There are some clothes that don't need washing immediately, such as jeans, woollies, maybe a t-shirt. I can't put these clothes away at the end of the day so they end up in a pile on the sofa, or on the floor, or over a chair.

  2. I end up wearing the same clothes (especially jeans) as I'd rather wear something that is already out than pull out something else.

So, AIBU to think it would be ok to put clothes that have been worn but are not visibly dirty, back in the cupboard at the end of the day? What does everyone else do??

Sorry if it makes no sense..

I wear things more than once then rehang, but only some things like jeans dresses, cardigans. T-shirts, vests get thrown over the big radiator in the bathroom to wear again in the next few days.

I never dry clean - delicate stuff tied in a pillowcase, on a wool setting usually does me and doesn't destroy my clothes.

This thread has inspired me to buy a lavender plant today. I'm going to prune it, dry it and make some of those little pockets to go in the wardrobes - I've never had clothes moths and don't want to start now.
The beetles sound horrific.
I'm currently battling fruit flies - filthy greedy little fuckers they are. I've had them before and won :) but today we bought lots of raspberries to freeze from a farmers market and they must've been inside of the punnets, they're now stalking my kitchen. Bastards!

Thank you limited

So rare to have a useful contribution from anyone's DH on MN Wink

I don't know how take that kristina, so I'm going to take it at face value.

He may be my husband, but he does know what he's talking about with moths.

And seeing as he's the one who does all the domestic work, apart from the cooking, I think he could be trusted Wink

Very very interesting limited...
I would say though that worn clothes will have skin cells on them too Confused ...

And as I said my biggest problem was that the textiles weren't disturbed and kept in the dark...Sad
And ignorance - in that I saw the beetles on the window sills but didn't twig they were a BAD thing....(I felt sorry for them and was putting them outside Blush)

(And didn't notice moths until I saw the larvae in the bottom of the sofa - and then did start noticing them ...but never had as a big a problem as my friends the carper beetles...)

It was indeed meant as a compliment

usually when someone says on mN " I asked my DH and he said ......" , its a load of

But on this occasion I found it very useful . That's all Smile

Thanks kristina. I guessed as much - it might not have come out that way. Conversations with him can be fascinating Grin

unlucky83 Yes, worn clothes obviously have skin cells and oils in them. We've never found it a problem.

But undisturbed clothes... I have a big pile of things I'll never wear again but I can't bring myself to throw out. Dated stuff. I have to get rid of it this weekend or I will be sorry.

I know what you mean about thinking things were harmless. I used to think these things were ugly but cute and I used to put them outside until I realised what pests they were. Now I kill them with no mercy. At least they only massacre your plants.

Larvae in the bottom of the sofa?

I'm with your DH but I have OCD so my views may be skewed. I only wear things once then wash but the thought of putting worn clothes against clean washing seems wrong to me.

Darkandstormynight · 24/08/2014 06:02

I do all the time. I wear antiperspirant and I don't perspire much anyway, so if something was only worn once and still clean, I put a red hair elastic over the top of the hanger so I won't forget I've worn it once already. Then I will choose one with the red elastic the next time before I reach for a fresh one.

So if you don't perspire a lot, no I don't think you Abu at all!

I am a sweaty girl, dh is a chef, and our DS's are messy eaters, so there is little we wear that can be salvaged!
My jumpers and jeans are the exception and these get folded and put back in the drawer. Moths etc have never been a concern, never even occurred to me, to be honest!
