My husband and i are in our late 20's, when my husband was 17 he had a girlfriend for 1 year with the surname Jax.

He lost his virginity to her and they had a typical teenage romance. We still run in similar circles to her through mutual friends my husband and her have kept for many years.

We bump into her at birthday parties for mutual friends children's birthday parties and the occasional wedding. I have no problem with her nor should i.

ANYWAY both me and my husband really like the name Jax for a boy but as i said its her surname. Should this put me off?

Thanks!

Its the show I mentioned in about the fifth comment...

Hmm, I'd be put off. My DP has his heart set on the name of my best friend if we ever have a DD and I find that weird and off-putting enough, never mind the negative connotations that your chosen name brings. I'd scrap it, just pick another name.

cherrybombxo · 25/08/2014 11:53

I should mention - he loved the name before we even met so it's not some creepy tribute to my friend Grin

AlleyCat11 · 25/08/2014 12:01

Glad the actual name isn't Jax. That's toilet, to me.
Wouldn't use the old girlfriend's name. His idea or yours?

Cristalle · 25/08/2014 12:08

I wouldn't. it's odd.

I hope this is a name substituted for the real choice!

the jax is the loo, the bog, right?

and the banjax is the women's loos

Cristalle · 25/08/2014 12:11

ah right, the name is not really Jax.

even so, i think it's weird. my sur name is being used as a name, more in america though. Think McKenzie, Kennedy, Logan (but it's not acutally that). If an x named his child McKenzie I would think 'really?' .

TheNewStatesman · 25/08/2014 12:41

Sorry, I think this is really weird.

Also, "Jax" sounds like a bathroom cleaner brand. And is positively begging for kids to make jokes involving the words "jacks off."

Its SO rude when people pile in and start slating someone's choice of name when it's not what the OP is even about.

Well my DD's name is a variant of one of DH's ex's. Think Yvonne and Eva perhaps as an example, although Yvonne was never shortened to that to my knowledge. BIL said he wasn't sure why I was naming our daughter after DH's ex. Hmm. To me, the ex was totally irrelevant.

We used the name we wanted to use and no one ever said a thing after that. The ex has disappeared into her life, we have ours and DD skips merrily along with a lovely name that we all love!

Call your child what you want to I say. As a previous poster said, it says more to me that everyone's moved on rather than anyone being stuck in the past.
