I stumbled upon a BsB mix on YouTube and have been listening to it for the last few hours. No kids yet, dp is working late so there are no witnesses.

The year is 1998, I'm 10 years old and my heart belongs to Nick Carter.

Nick Carter the girlfriend beater? That Nick Carter?

Sorry to drop a downer OP. I love BB, I really do, but he makes my skin crawl.

Besides which, Kevin is the looker...

Cornflakesnmilk · 15/08/2014 00:36

Do it - I was swimming earlier with a (waterproof) mp3 player and happily swam and up and down to some BSB tracks. I liked Brian, Kevin and Howie - nearly all of them basically!

FannyFifer · 15/08/2014 00:38

YABU for only being age 10 in 98!

someonestolemynick · 15/08/2014 00:40

[hmmm] I'll just go back in time, to tell my 10-year-old selfI'm fancying the wrong Backstreet Boy.

Btw nowadays Kevin would be more my type, but Nick is still hot (I've stopped about obsessing about NC's life, so that's the first I've heard of him being a girlfriend beater)

You lost me at you're 10 years old in 1998. That warrants a slap in itself for making me feel old, lol.
What other cheese you got? I love a bit of cheese. Grin

Whiskwarrior · 15/08/2014 00:51

Sorry, OP. I didn't want to bring your otherwise fantastic thread down.

Funnily enough, I was watching a thing on The Vault last night about the biggest boybands ever and BB won! They showed 'I Want It That Way' and I squealed. DD (who is 12) raised an eyebrow and said 'why do you always behave like this when you see them?'.

Like she understands, with her bloody 1Direction!

My heart belongs firmly to McFly though (McBusted can sod right off - I refuse to accept them!).

someonestolemynick · 15/08/2014 01:01

Flowers Whisk I've just never heard it (stopped stalking them a while back Wink )

This is the first time in years, I've actively listened to some of their stuff caught between rocking out whilst sorting the recycling and tears.

My cats seem to be with your DD though ... I've decided it's just too intellectual for them.

I want a waterproof MP3 player now.

I hope you enjoyed the trip down memory lane.

ThisFenceIsComfy · 15/08/2014 03:08

I still know all the words to their songs!

I was always partial to bit of NSync tok

Pandora37 · 15/08/2014 08:52

Nick Carter's a girlfriend beater?! Shock Well I never knew that. Good job I wasn't a Nick fan, I loved AJ and Brian.

I regularly listen to BSB, N Sync and Five and occasionally even Aqua. I tell myself it's childhood nostalgia, which it partly is, but I actually just like their music Blush.

OneLittleToddleTerror · 15/08/2014 08:58

I didn't know that about Nick Carter either.

Is anyone on spotify? I think the entire BSB catalogue is on there Grin.

WhiskWarrior I remember reading about that in a Guardian article
www.theguardian.com/music/2013/jul/04/backstreet-boys-we-created-memories

They are still the best selling boy band, way bigger than 1D ever is. It's hard to compare directory ofc, given there are more teens around now (so a potentially bigger market), but there'll be a smaller percentage of them buying.

Jumblebee · 15/08/2014 09:00

My favourite old bit of cheese on my iPod is the 5 megamix, and I still know all the words Wink

Love a bit of Backstreet Boys too!

Nanny0gg · 15/08/2014 09:03

I am considerably older than the OP and I'm very partial to a little BSBs...

NickNacks · 15/08/2014 09:05

Another bsb lover over here. Especially Nick Carter :)

DearDinah · 15/08/2014 09:11

YANBU Kevin Richardson! Loved him, even through his dodgy hairdo days!

havenoideawhattodo · 15/08/2014 09:13

I went to see BSB in 1998. I still have the photos somewhere. Me and my friend made a huge banner, stuck on the poles of broken spades that took us HOURS and as we got to Wembley, the security guards told us (quite rightly) that we couldn't have "weapons" inside. We were heartbroken.

I was a massive Nick Carter fan. Absolutely batshit for him. There was very little space on my walls that wasn't covered by BSB/NC posters. When we went to the concert, I cried for days afterwards because I HAD BREATHED THE SAME impulse drenched, hormonal female AIR.

I still like them now and will always have them on my iPod. I prefer NSYNC (traitor) now, but my heart always lies with the boys.

This was a particularly modest representation of my room, circa 1997/8.

whataloadofoldshite · 15/08/2014 10:56

No one in my house then or now understands just how amazing they are/were. I even knew the words to one of the songs in Spanish as it was a B-side on a CD single I had!

I had their MTV takeover day on VHS that I recorded off the TV too...Blush

My room was also totally covered in BSB posters and collages cut from magazines!

1Direction....pish-posh! (hoik & cats bum combo)

LST · 15/08/2014 11:14

I was 8 in 1998 Grin YABU though as A1 was the band for me and Ben Adams was mine all mine!

imnottoofussed · 15/08/2014 11:21

Another fan here, I was very annoyed that nobody wanted to go to their recent tour with me :-(

I used to always fancy Kevin but recently he has gone a bit thin for my tastes and my affection has switched to Nick who I always used to hate.

Its a bit weird really, I used to think Nicks voice was quite nasally until about 3-4 years ago when suddenly I thought he sounded amazing and I developed a real crush on him haha

imnottoofussed · 15/08/2014 11:23

and I was 20 in 1998 haha

EarthWindFire · 15/08/2014 13:04

My heart belongs firmly to McFly though (McBusted can sod right off - I refuse to accept them!).

I agree... Wrong on so many levels!!!

PixieofCatan · 15/08/2014 13:25

Haha, I love bsb! I was 9 in 1998. My DP is named Nick Carter, his ringtone on my phone is usually bsb related, much to his disgust!

Nanny0gg · 15/08/2014 13:28

and I was 20 in 1998 haha

I was much older than that in 1998...

Sad
TheFillyjonk · 15/08/2014 13:34

Kevin is rather yummy now. I was in Morrisons yesterday and 'I Want it That Way' started playing - I regressed to my 10 year old self and even though I'd finished my shop, I stayed in there until the song finished. Blush
