My other half turns 30 in 8 weeks. Finding it really hard to pick a gift or surprise him with anything ? His ex didnt do anything to celebrate his 18th or 21st as she was older and felt it would make her look silly. I just want to make him feel special? Any help would be great! :)

I bought DH a samsung tablet. He was shocked as we were broke! I put away money for about 6 months in order to pay for it!

TheMasterNotMargarita · 12/08/2014 04:01

It's DH's birthday next week and have got him an iPad mini with a manly black leather case.
It's much more than normal for a gift but he never asks for anything or spends a lot on himself so I hope it will be a nice surprise.

LIttleMissTickles · 12/08/2014 05:33

I took DH to Switzerland for a surprise long weekend for his 30th, and gave home a scuba diving course for his 40th. Both well received. What does he enjoy? My DH likes to cook, and a outdoor pizza oven would be a good present for him too.

drspouse · 12/08/2014 05:42

I also took DH away for a surprise weekend (Jersey in fact) and my mother for her 60th (somewhere we lived when I was a child).

Weathergames · 12/08/2014 05:54

I have OH a skydiving thing for Xmas as he's always wanted to do it.

He was really chuffed :)

LastOneDancing · 12/08/2014 05:59

I took DH to Le Gavaroche restaurant for his 30th and had the taster menu with wine flight. It was amazing - we even met Michel Roux but pricey - definately a once in a lifetime experience!

He took me to Venice which was equally fantastic.

Oh to be young and child free... Smile

Big presents I've bought include a slot machine, a replica light sabre and holidays to centre parcs and abroad.

chanie44 · 12/08/2014 06:40

I bought OH an iPad for his big birthday. I'd been saving up for about a year, in anticipation of the playstation 4. As it was launched about a year after his birthday, I got the iPad instead.

I would have liked to have done something else as well, like a trip away, but couldn't afford it as I was on mat leave.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 12/08/2014 06:45

An Anya Hindmarch bespoke wallet for the last one. You can write a message and they emboss it for you.
I cannot remember what I got him for his 30th Blush

GruffalosGirl · 12/08/2014 06:51

DH loves cooking so I took him away for the weekend to a high end cookery school for a weekend course teaching him how to cook proper posh stuff. He loved it and I got loads of lovely food for ages after

inlectorecumbit · 12/08/2014 06:54

DH bought me a Tiffany bracelet and necklace for my 40th and a puppy for my 50th (DC's were in on that one) Grin. The puppy was by far the best one ever Grin. His eyes are burning into me just now to take him for a walk..

trufflehunterthebadger · 12/08/2014 06:57

dh had a baby for his 30th birthday present ;) we went to new york for his birthday and she was conceived there

browneyedgirl86 · 12/08/2014 07:03

My DP turned 30 on Sunday. I took him to the Dr Who exhibition and we stayed in a 5 star hotel. He didn't know about it before hand. It was all a surprise. He loved it.

thoughtsescapeme · 12/08/2014 07:10

12-string guitar for his 40th. He had to come and choose it.

combust22 · 12/08/2014 07:11

We don't do extravagant birthdays. A card, a couple of small gifts. That's all.

shanewayne · 12/08/2014 07:16

I gave my dh, time for his 30th.
We have three young dc's and never get any time, so I booked a suite in a fancy hotel, had the champagne ordered and ready and we went to his favourite restaurant in the evening. It was bliss..

Mydearyouareutterlywonderful · 12/08/2014 07:26

For DP's 30th I did a clue finding 'treasure hunt' with each clue being a mini poem with a small token gift, leading onto the next, hidden all around the house. Until finally discovering tickets to paris in a photo frame. We went to Disneyland, up the eiffel tower, arc de triomphe. It cost an absolute bloody fortune quite a bit. But for a once in a lifetime thing (well, until the 40th comes around....!) it was everything I had hopes it would be. DP was blown away, its such a magical place, it really is.

On a smaller budget though, you could take DP to a special place for a candelit dinner/ picnic? Go for a spa day? They do skme fab red letter days....

Has he a favourite sports team? What about a tour and hospitality package or tickets for a big game? Maybe tickets to see a favourite band or to a festival.

MyCarHasBrokenDownAgain · 12/08/2014 07:35

I got mine a day's cruise on the Waverley - he won't know about it until Thursday though Grin

I took husband to Glasgow for Commonwealth games for his 30th, posh hotel at Loch Lomond and tickets for Rugby 7s. It was great!

FairyPenguin · 12/08/2014 08:08

I took my DH on a surprise city break weekend away to see German Christmas markets (he lived in Germany for a while and loved it). Not sure what to do for next big birthday as got 2 DC to think about this time too.

LePetitPont · 12/08/2014 08:14

The main present for my husband's 30th was a rally driving experience at silver stone which was part of a country cottage weekend in Oxfordshire. I also got him a new cricket bag and hid his favourite treats in the pockets (chocolates / aftershave etc).

He took me to paris for my 30th - and proposed!

I need to up my game for the 40th ...

HappyAgainOneDay · 12/08/2014 08:42

I gave mine a birthday lunch, secretly inviting his sons and their families to a gourmet pub. I didn't know how to get him there so I got my own son (here on business) to 'agree to meet us there for lunch'. He didn't of course. The surprise and pleasure on my DH's face was delightful for me.

HatieKokpins · 12/08/2014 08:48

For my husbands 40th, I'm taking him to Vienna for a long weekend in a really lovely hotel. We're going to watch the Eurovision Song Contest (PRAYING I manage to get the tickets!)

Teddybeau1988 · 12/08/2014 08:51

I booked DH in for a full massage at a spa which is attached to my gym as a surprise, then we had a meal sans DC, which is always a treat
