DH eating crisps

WitchWay · 10/08/2014 23:45

He didn't have any of the delicious gratin dauphinoise potato with dinner (steak, mushrooms, tomatoes, spinach) & is now munching through 4 packets of crisps. This is a regular occurrence - he has "enough" to eat & then shortly afterwards stuffs his face with crisps. My fault for buying them I suppose - well there won't be any more bought once they're all gone. Angry Confused Hmm Sad

Have you posted about this before?

What does he normally eat day to day? 4 bags is a fat lot of crap.

WitchWay · 10/08/2014 23:53

I've moaned about him before but I don't think about the crisps!

He eats what I cook, plus what he eats at work (sandwiches or cooked food or salad). If out at the weekend he often gets a burger. I don't really care what he eats when not at home, but is really pisses me off that he "saves room" for crap when I've cooked something decent. I really will NOT be buying any more.

If he's had enough to eat then he's had enough to eat.

He would obviously do better to snack on something more healthy when he gets hungry again, but it's his choice as an adult.

I'm sure he can manage to buy them himself.

bigTillyMint · 11/08/2014 00:18

Yes, just dont buy them. He sounds a tad teenageryWink

BobPatandIgglePiggle · 11/08/2014 00:24

Stop mothering him. He's an adult, he can eat what he wants.

Scarletohello · 11/08/2014 00:26

Is he overweight?

You buy it? Huh? I find it funny that you care what he eats but you buy crap. Just don't have crisps in the house if you don't like him eating them. If he chooses to buy them, he's fine.

AdoraBell · 11/08/2014 02:53

Stop buying crisps. Just like with my DCs and biscuits, one eats far too many if we have them in the cupboard so I have to bypass the biscuit aisle.

googoodolly · 11/08/2014 04:59

He's an adult, you can't tell him what he can and can't eat. I get it's annoying that he seems to be rejecting your dinner in favour of junk, but it's his choice.

As for everyone saying "stop buying it!", he's a grown man! I'm pretty sure if he wants crisps he would just go and buy them himself.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 11/08/2014 06:13

I'd be pissed off too OP.

JessieMcJessie · 11/08/2014 06:44

My DH and I were in M&S the other week and we bought a large bar of chunky chocolate each. I ate a few squares of mine and put it aside for later, after remarking to DH that one whole bar was the calorie equivalent of 4.5 mars bars. I didn't pay attention to how much he ate of his own. 3 days later I went to the fridge for a square of chocolate only to find that he had completely polished off both bars. So 8 Mars bars in the space of 3 days!

I wasn't too fussed about him having eaten "my" chocolate, all food at home is fair game, but I was utterly disgusted by his greediness, particularly because I had warned him about the calories so he knew full well.

In your position OP I'd find eating 4 packs of crisps pretty repellent, regardless of whether or not he'd had a meal first.

paxtecum · 11/08/2014 07:22

It will be interesting if he does bother buying bags of crisps for himself either in advance or if he bothers to go out each evening to buy them.

Maybe he'll start eating bowls of cereal instead - presuming they will
be in the cupboard.

I think eating four bags of crisps one after the other is gross.

Has he had his cholesteral and blood pressure checked lately?
Is he overweight?

ButtonBoo · 11/08/2014 07:28

I agree with all the others about not buying anymore etc but wondered if it really was hunger that makes him do this and not a texture thing IYSWIM.

Sometimes after certain meal I crave sweet things or crunchy things. I only need a teeny square of chocolate to satisfy this 'itch' as I'm not actually hungry. Same with crunchy things. Sometimes I really want something crunchy. Yes, usually a nice crunchy carrot stick won't quite do it but you could try s

ButtonBoo · 11/08/2014 07:29

...something else.

suziepra · 11/08/2014 07:40

He might have a thiroid problem or slow metabolism.

EarthWindFire · 11/08/2014 08:07

Surely he is an adult and can eat what he wants?

utterly disgusted by his greediness, particularly because I had warned him about the calories so he knew full well.

So you warned him so he has to take notice then?

passmethewineplease · 11/08/2014 08:10

YABU.

He's an adult and in charge of his own food intake.

suziepra · 11/08/2014 08:13

There is a really double standards problem in this site. Its totally unacceptable to damage yourself by smoking or drinking, but fine to gorge on junk and damage yourself as that's a choice an adult can make.

Anomaly · 11/08/2014 08:14

Really hate people policing what another adult eats. Obviously you need to with children and have a responsibility to but an adult should be left to it.

EarthWindFire · 11/08/2014 08:15

Not for me it's not. Adults are adults and allowed to make their own (legal) choices.

MorphineDreams · 11/08/2014 08:16

I think the problems occur when your lifestyle choices start to negatively affect other people.

He's an adult. He can eat what he likes. As can you. Is he overweight? Is he generally healthy?

however · 11/08/2014 08:17

I hate policing what another adult eats as well.

But then again I don't gorge myself on multiple packets of crisps so no one else gets to have any.

Why should she not buy them? I do. I might have a packet once a week. 4 in one go is gluttony.

passmethewineplease · 11/08/2014 08:19

Has anyone seen bags of crisps lately? They're barely a quarter full. Shock

NotAnotherNewNappy · 11/08/2014 08:19

My DH is also a crisp addict, so I try to just buy the kids varieties now. Yesterday morning, I caught him standing in the larder eating 2 packets of Pom bears for breakfast Shock
