DH eating crisps

He didn't have any of the delicious gratin dauphinoise potato with dinner (steak, mushrooms, tomatoes, spinach) & is now munching through 4 packets of crisps. This is a regular occurrence - he has "enough" to eat & then shortly afterwards stuffs his face with crisps. My fault for buying them I suppose - well there won't be any more bought once they're all gone. Angry Confused Hmm Sad

Your husband is greedy op its nothing to do with your dinners he is just greedy I think you need to just accept that

ha ha Kate - if dinner isn't on the table by 5.30 there would be a lynch mob in my house. :)

I already get the moans about when it's going to be ready from 4ish.

At the weekend I have been known to be asked at 3.30 if we can have an early dinner!

Not necessarily small portions (except for me and increasingly for OH as he gets older) Boys are enormous eaters and always have been. They are adult sized though but with plenty of growing left - upwards not outwards - they aren't overweight just very tall - just 14 year old is nearly 5'11 and younger son was 13 at the weekend and is 5'10.

Dinner was supposed to be at 8pm last night (our usual eating time). DH asked if I could hold it till 8.30pm as he was washing the car. He finished washing the cars at 9.30pm. DS was busy on the PS4, I was faffing online. Nothing was spoilt - he often causes delays in mealtimes because of stuff he has to do (that is a whole other thread Grin). I am good at keeping things ticking over. The timing didn't matter - none of us had to be up early today. The crisps were being eaten within half an hour or so of dinner having been eaten. He would have been hungry before dinner because we only had had a light lunch.

My OH will sometimes have crisps "as a starter" if Dinner is going to be any longer than 15mins :o

The boys are allowed a maximum of 1 packet of crisps a day (that doesn't mean they have them everyday, just that if they are having them, they can have 1 packet)

In order to qualify for crisps, you need to have eaten an extra piece of fruit or veg over and above what you would normally have had at the previous meal. Maybe a silly rule, but it does up the 5 a day and means that I don't have to argue about it. At the weekends or if the weather is nice in the evening, if they want crisps they have to scooter/cycle 1 mile to the shop to buy them (after consuming the requisite piece of fruit) and eat them at the park.

Crisps are hard currency in our house - personally, I can take or leave them :)

myotherusernameisbetter · 11/08/2014 13:28

hmmm - I should qualify here that OH doesn't need to scooter to the shops, he can have crisps whether or not he eats the extra fruit/veg as he has a good diet and exercises daily :o and is a grown man

Next time make something equally yummy for you that he also likes and just serve him up a selection of crisps. And then see what he says...

You can of course have kept a portion of the yummy food hidden so that he can snack on it later if he gets hungry after his crisps Grin assuming you don't decide to keep it for tomorrow's lunch...
