if you were really unhappy about something and had the opportunity? fair enough some celebs just get too much done but I dont think people should be criticized if they werent happy with a certain feature and got it changed to feel more comfortable with their appearance, opinions?

Salmotrutta · 03/08/2014 20:39

Only if I was being seriously affected by something (e.g. terrible scarring or something)

I hate my nose but I've learned to live with it.

plus I'm too scared to get surgery

FrankSaysNo · 03/08/2014 20:40

What is your AIBU?

Not unless I was accidentally disfigured no.

TBH IMHO people with cosmetic surgery have esteem problems.

OutragedFromLeeds · 03/08/2014 20:40

Yeah definitely. If I was very unhappy and had the money to have it done properly, safely and well.

SnayPah · 03/08/2014 20:43

Nope. Slippery slope - where do you stop? If you improve something a bit what's to stop you moving on to some new body part to hate?

NoArmaniNoPunani · 03/08/2014 20:44

No, I'd have botox

ICanSeeTheSun · 03/08/2014 20:46

A tummy tuck, I have separated stomach muscles but not bad enough for NHS surgery

weebarra · 03/08/2014 20:47

I'll be having some in a year, breast reconstruction after cancer.

SourSweets · 03/08/2014 20:48

If it was really affecting me and intruding in to my life and thoughts frequently then probably yes. But I also think that if you're that bothered by one element of your appearance, fixing it won't help. You'll just transfer the angst onto another feature.

As I am, no I wouldn't. I hate the surgeried look.

SourSweets · 03/08/2014 20:49

(Aside from medical issues or scarring etc I mean)

Gruntfuttock · 03/08/2014 20:50

I was left £2K by a distant relative in my early 30's and spent it on a nose job. My GP wrote a letter of referral to a surgeon - in fact it was the surgeon who co-founded the plastic surgery unit at the Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead, with Archie McIndoe - not that I knew that at the time and I've never regretted it for a second. the only pain I felt was the injection of anaesthetic into the back of my hand at the start of the surgery, which must have lasted 2 to 3 seconds. No pain after that and the result was excellent.

Gruntfuttock · 03/08/2014 20:53

I forgot to mention that I had a consultation with the surgeon before going ahead and booking the OP. That is a must.

Snatchoo · 03/08/2014 20:56

Yes I would.

If I had money and lots of it, I'd spend a year losing weight sensibly with diet and exercise and then have a breast reduction.

I hate my boobs Sad they are like saggy old lady boobs.

Phoenixwoman · 03/08/2014 20:56

I had a procedure done and it was the best move I've ever made. I do struggle with self esteem but nothing has ever come close to the way I obsessed about this 'flaw' before surgery.

FindoGask · 03/08/2014 20:57

I have had plastic surgery. I had a breast reduction ten years ago, and I haven't found what SourSweets says is the case at all- it really did change my life.

Mumof3xox · 03/08/2014 20:58

I would

Id have my tummy done to loose the baby flab

Boobs lifted

And some lazering on my stretch marks

CoffeeOne · 03/08/2014 21:00

I have but as with everything there are limits. I had a nose job when I was 25. I hated my nose my whole life. It hard quite a large bump and I hated people looking at my face. If you saw me now you wouldn't know I'd had surgery, my nose is in no way perfect and still on the larger side but it feels like the nose I was meant to have and now I don't think about my nose at all. I wouldn't get botox or other minor surgeries as I don't like how it looks.

I'm not sure I'd have surgery now though I have a child. Lack of funds and extra responsibility.

SaucyJack · 03/08/2014 21:01

No, not for really real. I am actually in a financial position to do so following a recent inheritance but I couldn't. I just wouldn't feel like me. A bit like I'd "cheated" at becoming better looking if that makes sense.

CoffeeOne · 03/08/2014 21:02

FrankSaysNo of course people who have cosmetic surgery have self esteem problems. Wouldn't you if part of you made you not even want to leave the house because you hated it so much?

You know what cured my self esteem problems. Surgery.

BuggerOffBieber · 03/08/2014 21:03

Yes, I had a breast enlargement. I don't have 'esteem issues' nor do I believe it's a slippery slope, there's nothing else I want to have done.

No regrets here.

PrivateBenjamin · 03/08/2014 21:04

I have. I had my ears pinned back. They were huge, like a mouse. I NEVER wore my hair up. Even in the gym or at the beach it always had to be down to hide my ears and I was so paranoid about them.

I saved up and paid privately. I can honestly say it changed my life, which sounds really shallow but it did. I became so much more confident and happy. I'd happily have paid 5x more for it, it was the best money I've ever spent.

So I do think in some cases plastic s

CarefullyAirbrushedPotato · 03/08/2014 21:05

If I was disfigured by an accident, otherwise no, I'm happy to be ordinary looking.
I think. If I had car door ears I might change my mind...?

specialsubject · 03/08/2014 21:06

plastic surgery - maybe, if I were unfortunate enough to become disfigured.
cosmetic - never. It always looks worse anyway!

CoffeeOne · 03/08/2014 21:06

I agree FindoGask. I found after my surgery I was finally at peace with myself and still am 6 years on. Of course there will always be little things I dislike, weight, hair, skin but these small things are easy to brush off. I don't think some people understand how crippling it can be to hate an aspect of yourself so much.

PrivateBenjamin · 03/08/2014 21:08

Whoops. In some cases plastic surgery is an addiction but in my case it wasn't and was the best choice for me.

RufusTheReindeer · 03/08/2014 21:10

I would

Tummy tuck would be nice as I can currently make an origami bird out of my stomach skin

Boob lift ( maybe a reduction ..)

Get rid of my turkey neck and eventually an eye lift

Would need the money though, a lottery win would do it
