To think questioning someone on why they haven't had children is just RUDE!

This afternoon - 'so why do you not want kids? It is coz you work with them all the time?' (I am a teacher.)

:(

I really want children but it's unlikely to happen - but this is just so rude! I don't want to explain myself to someone I've just met!

In addition to what Abs says above, I'd like to add that the casual 'chit chat' from people asking me when I was going to have a baby really added to the upset and stress that I faced. It would have been bearable if it had been a private grief but children are a topic that people ask about quite happily in public, even if they barely know you. Just as I was managing to get on with my life and not think about a miscarriage, out of the blue would come a question from someone. Sometimes, it was all I could do not to cry as some insensitive woman made jokes about the patter of feet, and told me how babies had changed her life and how she couldn't imagine life without them, and I'd be so happy once I was pregnant. All while I struggled to smile politely.

Just don't ask. Just don't.
