To ask for your help in finding a marina/ quayside townhouse

Househuntingwoes · 31/07/2014 18:55

NC as I've been asking around IRL too.

DH and I would love to live in a townhouse on a marina or quayside.

Both of us are able to live anywhere in England except Devon or Cornwall (for work travelling reason) and don't want to be too far north (for weather reasons Grin)

The problem with having no real ties to where you want to live is that it makes narrowing it down hard!

We've seen houses we like at Salford Quays in Manchester, Sovereign Harbour in Eastbourne and Port Solent near Portsmouth so that gives an idea of the kind of thing we want.

Are there any other similar developments we should consider (even ones that aren't built yet but are planned)?

I used to rent a lovely flat over looking the canal in Notts.

ChippyMinton · 31/07/2014 22:30

Bray over budget but right on the river.

Maidenhead

Have you looked at diglis basin in Worcester? Think it's mostly apartments but I'm sure there were a few townhouses and it's a lovely development.
Worcester is a really nice small city plus it's central England so easy to get anywhere, and houses are reasonably priced compared to anywhere in the South.

Apsley Marina in Hemel Hempstead (Grand Union canal. Close to London and M1)

Chichester has townhouses by the canal.

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 31/07/2014 22:52

Sorry thought I'd posted this earlier: [[http://www.watermarkcotswolds.com Cirencester Waterpark]].

If Old Portsmouth too expensive try Royal Clarence Yard, Gosport- other side of the water, not sure how close it is to marina etc but def has houses and a lot cheaper!!

MeerkatTargaryen · 31/07/2014 22:58

They have just built/are building some lovely townhouses in Shoreham by Sea. They are right on the harbourfront. Also Littlehampton and arundel both have houses along the waterside. Sea for Littlehampton and river for arundel.

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 31/07/2014 22:59

Frampton on Severn is lovely in a village-greeny sort of way, but also by a river/canal.

Might be a little over budget but wow

I was trying to find the new development we drove past the other day but I can't find it grr. Was lovely.

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 31/07/2014 23:11

MrsCakesPremonition · 31/07/2014 23:21

Flat

Poole

squirrel996 · 31/07/2014 23:42

we used to live in a lovely town house in sovereign harbour.

NerfHerder · 01/08/2014 00:50

I was also going to suggest Worcester. Do you need a home with moorings?

PomBearWithAnOFRS · 01/08/2014 00:51

Dare I suggest Hartlepool?
They have built loads of really nice houses at our Marina, all new and have been upgrading the whole area for a few years now.
They are pricey for here, but compared to prices "down south" they are cheap, and the town is actually quite a nice place to live now - Judith Chalmers even came for her holidays once Grin
Our weather is ok too, we get mild winters and have had lovely summers last year and this - the sea seems to "keep us warm" in winter and we rarely get more than a sprinkle of snow. It's been over 30 years since the last "deep" (ie 3 inches or so) of snow I can remember, and I've lived here all my life Grin
Might be worth a look, as your money will go a lot further up here than it will in the south...

EveDallasRetd · 01/08/2014 07:11

Stourport on Severn (Waters Edge is new build, but there are a few older properties in the DY12 and DY13 areas)

Bewdley (but oh the floods)

Househuntingwoes · 01/08/2014 07:31

meerkat do you know the name of the road/ postcode or the developers name for the Shoreham harbour new builds?

OP posts:
carlajean · 01/08/2014 09:04

Portishead, the Wapping Wharf development on Bristol harbourside.
(But YABU to post here, why not on the homes and gardens area?)

Househuntingwoes · 01/08/2014 10:35

I posted here for traffic carlajean

I have receive some fantastically helpful replys from people who know of areas like I'm looking for but I doubt all of those people would be readers of homes and garden

Neither of these are marinas but both overlook water:

www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-41524921.html (I used to live in one of these townhouses and it is such a lovely spot)

This one is a 3-bed apartment but there are townhouses in the same development www.primelocation.com/for-sale/details/33900349 The lake is used for open-water swimming and windsurfing etc. Really easy motorway access for London etc. I've not been in the houses but train for triathlon here sometimes and lust after a house overlooking the lake.
