Surely in JULY There should be some bloody kids shorts still available to buy.

We normally buy the boys clothes online or in supermarkets to keep costs reasonable.

Today I have been to Sainsburys, Morrisons, absolutely no kids shorts.

Online I have checked H and M, tesco, Next and a few other random places, they either have nothing or there are a few very odd bits own the sale.

I just expected there to still be shorts in the hottest part of the year!!

I had the exact same problem last year and unfortunately haven't learnt from my mistakes... DS2 has just been given a bundle of shorts from my friend but DS1 is lacking. We're holidaying in Norfolk (camping for 2 weeks) so I'm thinking we need to find him some more as they're likely to get wet, muddy and grass-stained within hours.

I'll ve doing what we did last year - trakkies from Primark cut down and hemmed to make shorts. Good old MIL!

goingloombandcrazy · 30/07/2014 22:20

Its bonkers but true! Same with paddling pools.

Try debenhams, m and s and m and co

Seasickstill · 30/07/2014 22:23

Hi all

I have a variety of boys clothes and shorts, t shirts, swimmers etc that was going to advertise in my very isolated location!

If any one would like to pm items they need and general requirements re style and size etc I will happily post anything out to you. All clothes in our community are passed around this way for a small donation to Sands but we are over run with boys clothes for some reason :)

Hope that's helpful. Would need to be today or tomorrow as we are away visiting friends after Friday.

EndoplasmicReticulum · 30/07/2014 22:24

Problem I have if I buy in advance is I forget I've bought it and then get more.

AnnieLobeseder · 30/07/2014 22:25

I have been looking for shorts for my DDs - girls' or boys', I'm not fussy - for several weeks now and have not found anything except cut-off denim ones that look really tight and uncomfortable. I eventually bought DD1 ((yo) some size 6 and size 8 adult shorts in Primark, and DD2 has some old ones of DD1's. But no, absolutely nothing comfy-looking in jersey etc for children anywhere at the moment, and I've been in every shop in town. Grrrr!

AnnieLobeseder · 30/07/2014 22:26

In case anyone was wondering, DD1 is 9yo, not "bracket" yo.

lljkk · 30/07/2014 22:32

That's weird, my kids can wear the same shorts summer after summer.

Stars66 · 30/07/2014 22:39

Argh it does my head in! Why do the shops change their stock for the next season too early??!!
I am totally with you. I was looking for shorts for dd to no avail earlier this week too Confused

Seasickstill · 30/07/2014 22:39

I have some purple and white stripy baggy sweat shorts, predominantly white checked cotton cargos and a dark pair of knee length with little surfers age 5-6 in lovely condition.

If any use you I can get in the post tomorrow

Tried to stick a photo on but don't know how!! Grin

Rabbitcar · 30/07/2014 22:44

Agree that there are no shorts. Also slightly derailing, to say that it's impossible to get girls' shorts that aren't obscene. All the shorts for my teen and preteen look obscene. Since when do girls only have a hot pants option? The shorts should at least come halfway down the thigh surely??

TheLovelyBoots · 30/07/2014 22:47

I was just in Brooks Brothers tonight searching for a wedding ensemble for both of my boys - they have very cute shorts for 50% off. Seersucker and madras plaid. 25 each.

AnnieLobeseder · 30/07/2014 22:47

That's my other bugbear, Rabbitcar. All fair enough if a girl wants to wear really short shorts. But it annoys the fuck out of me that tiny shorts are the only option for girls.

AnnieLobeseder · 30/07/2014 22:49

lljkk - if you have some special trick that prevents your DC from growing and needing new clothes, short of growth-inhibiting drugs or just not feeding them, please share with the class! Smile

Rabbitcar · 30/07/2014 22:50

I agree. Both DDs have short shorts, but I'd like a couple of pairs that cover more than their bum, or as you say, at least have the option of looking for them. Zara, h & m, top shop - they all look like slightly large knickers. And I'm no prude.

noblegiraffe · 30/07/2014 22:54

I couldn't buy a swimsuit for myself on the first day of the sodding summer holidays last year. Why would they stop stocking stuff at the time when most people are starting to think about packing for their holiday?

3catsnokids · 30/07/2014 22:59

I've had the same problem. I've had 2 foster children placed with me, so didn't know ages/sex until the day they arrived. As it was my first ever placement I didn't have any children's clothes at all so had to buy everything when they came.

I've enjoyed buying them new clothes, but have really struggled to find shorts! They are living in the shorts I have found as they love wearing shorts so I feel like I'm constantly washing them!

Sorry to hijack the thread but if anyone does have boys shorts they want to get rid of in age 4-5 or 5-6 I would be more than happy to pay postage!

Seasickstill · 30/07/2014 23:16

Hi 3cats

Am happy to send you my boys 5-6 shorts. Have described them in my last post

Will stick head in loft to see if any 4-5 lurking

Don't worry about postage. I'm over run with stamps. DM gives me done every time I see her. I can't remember the last letter I posted other than the odd birthday or Christmas card Grin

If you pm an address I will happily send them tomorrow

3catsnokids · 30/07/2014 23:19

Aww, that's lovely Seasick. Thanks so much. I will PM you now.

Don't know how I've managed to post twice?

Am going to blame my snoring toddler who is snuggled looking cute in bed, hence very distracting!

NerfHerder · 30/07/2014 23:26

rabbitcar/annie- I buy H&M boys' shorts in the brighter colours (turquoise, pink, red etc) for DD (8yo)- she has enormously long legs, and they come mid-to-lower thigh on her, plus they have adjustable waistband usually at H&M.

I went looking this evening (not H&M) for a swimming costume, and shorts for my 5yo, and came home with nothing.

Carrie5608 · 31/07/2014 00:07

if you are near a Regatta some quite cheap ones on their website.

TwoAndTwoEqualsChaos · 31/07/2014 00:31

I've had real problems this year: I have cobbled together some from the supermarkets and charity shops, but no one seemed to have the jersey two-packs my son lives in and he is now too big for the lovely plain jersey ones Boots do! About 1/3 of his this Summer are denim and they are just not as comfy. I must re-check ebay!

CouldntGiveAMonkeysToss · 31/07/2014 00:35

My nearest Asda has loads of baggy swim shorts in so I bought those for my boys. They wear them as normal shorts and also use them for swimming so get lots of use out of them. They're both under five though so they don't know the difference, they prefer the brighter designs on the swim shorts.

TwoAndTwoEqualsChaos · 31/07/2014 00:55

Have just been onto Sports Direct's website, due to this thread, and purchased half-a-dozen pairs for DS (a very big 5) in their sale, mostly for a quarter of their original price! Thank-you!
