Surely in JULY There should be some bloody kids shorts still available to buy.

We normally buy the boys clothes online or in supermarkets to keep costs reasonable.

Today I have been to Sainsburys, Morrisons, absolutely no kids shorts.

Online I have checked H and M, tesco, Next and a few other random places, they either have nothing or there are a few very odd bits own the sale.

I just expected there to still be shorts in the hottest part of the year!!

YANBU OP. Why can't retailers sell clothes for the season we are in WHEN we are in it??

YankNCock · 30/07/2014 18:22

I think it's worse for boys, on the clearance racks at tesco there was NOTHING for boys but seemed to be loads on the girls. I don't think a 5yo boy wants to be wearing a girls' Daisy Dukes though.

I'm another one wondering if you have an "abroad" destination as IME they have market type stalls near resorts and camp sites selling all the children's clothes and accessories you could need for a holiday.

It is completely crazy but after this type of thing happening to me with DD1 (about 13 years ago) I realised that most shop stock goes in cycles.

Outdoor shops tend to stock shorts all year around.

Baddderz · 30/07/2014 18:26

Ebay.
Had some great shirts from there!

Baddderz · 30/07/2014 18:26

Shorts even! :)

I got some from Zara for dd last week, but also noticed some in Gap and next (all online). Don't know about boys though as was only looking for girls stuff.

MTWTFSS · 30/07/2014 18:30

Just bought a pair for a 3-4 year old in my local charity shop.

hiccupgirl · 30/07/2014 18:33

I've had exactly this problem as DS has just outgrown the shorts that he had left from last summer. After much looking I found a pair each in Next, Asda and BHS. I also snapped up school shorts in BHS for him starting in September after realising it was the only place with them in stock.

It easy to get girl's shorts as lots of places sell them all year round with leggings or tights plus there is always more girls clothes than boys in the shops anyway. But boy's shorts is very seasonal and a total pain if they suddenly outgrow them in the middle of a hot spell.

LearnerM0ther · 30/07/2014 18:35

I had a nightmare with boys' shorts. Tried Asda, Primark, Morrisons, Tesco.. I forget where else.. Skint so tried to avoid Next, but had to resort to them. I'm surprised they've all gone - that was about 3 weeks ago and there were LOADS (some really pricey, but managed to find a 2 pack for 11 so not as extortionate as first thought. Lovely ones too - at last!! Smile)

MyCarHasBrokenDownAgain · 30/07/2014 18:37

If you have time visit a local boot sale - brought loads for DS for holiday at the weekend.

ElephantsNeverForgive · 30/07/2014 18:38

YANBU
Women's and children's shorts seem to be the least stocked item of clothing.

Last year DD1 had a massive hunt for some, even in sodding Penzance in mid summer, honestly you would think that holiday clothes by the sea might be a good thing to sell!

LearnerM0ther · 30/07/2014 18:41

P.S. Agree that you shouldn't have to 'guess the growth rate' so you can buy ahead.. My DS eats everything in sight for 2-3 weeks, then grows like a sodding beanstalk, seemingly overnight!! Shock He's 21 months and has some 4-5yr t-shirts Grin

startwig1982 · 30/07/2014 18:45

I bought some for ds a couple of weeks ago in sainsburys. Admittedly I haven't been since but they had a big range at the time.

Starlingsintheslipstream · 30/07/2014 18:49

I ordered some online from Regatta last week. Probably dearer than supermarkets but very lightweight and practical.

AnotherGirlsParadise · 30/07/2014 18:54

I got a load of cheap ones from Vertbaudet. I normally order from them with massive trepidation, but for once they got the order right. They might still have the summer sale going on online.

Kbear · 30/07/2014 18:56

I learnt this lesson last year when our holiday abroad was 22 August - Sports Direct came up trumps - Slazenger shorts, soft jersey, about a fiver. They still fit this year cos I bought them big.

FishWithABicycle · 30/07/2014 18:57

Thank you for this thread OP - I've been vaguely thinking for a couple of weeks that the 3 pairs of shorts we have isn't really enough and I should get hold of another couple but I hadn't realised that this might not be easy. A not-particularly-easy web-shopping-experience later I have secured a couple of pairs from amazon but so many styles are either massively low on stock or much more expensive than I'd want to pay - definitely a short shortage at the moment!

ABlandAndDeadlyCourtesy · 30/07/2014 19:03

eBay.

Or try M&Co

iseenodust · 30/07/2014 19:15

Gap outlet has some.

EndoplasmicReticulum · 30/07/2014 19:20

Oh yes, you should have bought them in February and hoped they didn't grow too much. You should be buying winter coats now.

I tried to buy a swimming costume last week. Ha ha ha. Shops didn't have any (apart from M+S but I didn't need ruching) so I bought online (Sports Direct).

Have been threads like this before and retailers come on to say it's impossible to actually be able to buy the things at the right time, you have to do it early, something to do with stock ordering. However these shops then lose my custom as you can usually get what you want online.

KiaOraOAotearoa · 30/07/2014 19:25

Mine outgrew hers, took them to charity and before me somebody obviously did the same thing: they fitted my DD perfectly!
Try charity shops!
