Surely in JULY There should be some bloody kids shorts still available to buy.

We normally buy the boys clothes online or in supermarkets to keep costs reasonable.

Today I have been to Sainsburys, Morrisons, absolutely no kids shorts.

Online I have checked H and M, tesco, Next and a few other random places, they either have nothing or there are a few very odd bits own the sale.

I just expected there to still be shorts in the hottest part of the year!!

Shit loads in M and Co today. All in the sale. Got shorts for 2 year old and 4 year old

Taystee · 30/07/2014 19:29

Loads in the baby gap sale in store today. Very cheap too and they had an extra 20% off. Now, finding sun hats suitable for a boy... That's another story!

Girlwhowearsglasses · 30/07/2014 19:29

I bought a few online yesterday from H & M.

Try vertbaudet or look for sports shorts on Next

I'm not sure we should all be resigning ourselves to 'that's just the way retail works'. It's stupid and doesn't work for most people. The reason they don't sell any summer stuff in summer is that there isn't any available to buy. Same with coats etc in winter. If they hadn't tried to flog it all in the wrong season they wouldn't need to reduce so much in the 'sales' (which still take place before people want to buy the stuff) to make room for different wrong season stuff that people won't want to buy.

It is infuriating how hard it is to buy a bikini when you are actually going on holiday.

PumpkinPie2013 · 30/07/2014 20:32

I struggled to get shorts for my 7 month old ds a few weeks ago!

Got them in Next eventually.

ChameleonCircuit · 30/07/2014 20:39

Got some for DS in Next and BHS this week.

Catsize · 30/07/2014 20:49

OP, thank you. If nothing else, you have justified my appalling habit of buying in the sales in advance, sometimes years in advance, much to the chagrin of my partner. It is true that we sometimes end up with too much as a result, but at least we have something.

AuntieStella · 30/07/2014 21:10

ADSA have almost sold out of shorts. If they don't have the size in stock, that's it for this year.

Ditto swimming costumes and trucks

Of course children only swim between Feb and April Hmm

Looking at cardigans on display in shop windows on the hottest day of the year so far, less than a week than schools broke up here, made me think the shops really have got it badly wrong now. Yes, weather can throw things, but people still want summer clothes in the summer.

LearnerM0ther · 30/07/2014 21:12

Just remembered, I HAVE bought him a winter coat! Back in May!!! (Hangs head in hypocrite shame..)
8 squid for a gorgeous warm winter coat seemed such a bargain, but only if the fucker fits. Maybe shoulda bought age 6-7?? Grin If I forget I've got it / can't find it / it doesn't fit come winter..

deakymom · 30/07/2014 21:14

my son had some value jeans i just hacked them off with the scissors and done! i cant find any shorts either so we are staying at home in underpants in the pool Grin

Eggsaregoodforyou · 30/07/2014 21:23

Thanks all for your replies!!!!! So good to know this is not just another of my parental failures....,but a problem other people think is bonkers too!!!
Retailers stop being so bloody ridiculous and let us buy shorts in actual summer and coats in bloody winter!!

Had exactly the same issue - we've got another 2 weeks till holiday!

Found some on eBay and eventually online at Next

M&S - sort yourselves out! The boys' clothing section was about 3 rails, one of which was thick winter jackets

School uniform as far as the eye could see...

TeaAddict235 · 30/07/2014 21:41

try Boots or Matalan

BetsyBell · 30/07/2014 21:51

I bought DS1 shorts and swimming trunks, pre-emptively, in April. One growth spurt later and none of them fit and there are no more shorts/trunks for any boy above the age of 4 apparently.

I'd been looking out for school uniform shorts since April too, and found precisely zero.

Happy36 · 30/07/2014 21:54

We live abroad but got some for my 6 year old son cheaply in Zara boys' section about 10 days' ago so they may have them in UK branches too.

Sparklypants · 30/07/2014 21:54

Instore H&m have shorts. Their online store is pants!

BetsyBell · 30/07/2014 21:54

On the plus side: the outdoor shop ones still fit and I recently found a pair of gap ones in a charity shop, and some speedo type close fit trunks for a very bargainous price in BHS. So we will have some appropriate holiday wear after all!

Sparklypants · 30/07/2014 21:56

Also ebay is your friend! I've got DS loads of lovely shorts on there. Good luck :-)

GobbyHollins · 30/07/2014 22:00

Anyone else struggling to find girls shorts that are longer than too of thighs?
Dd2 looks like she's in knickers , got a above the knee pair from mountain warehouse but that was all they had.

ouryve · 30/07/2014 22:03

There's loads of shorts in the Autumn Next directory. There's more of a lack of actual autumn clothing since it went more international.

mumofthemonsters808 · 30/07/2014 22:03

I managed to pick some up from Next yesterday, I think they were about £12 for a multipack and they fit him really well. Sods law it is pouring today.

lljkk · 30/07/2014 22:09

I have heaps in size 4-7yo, could send you some for cost of postage.

ouryve · 30/07/2014 22:10

The worst I've managed to do is buy DS1 some shorts in the Next sale, one year. The weather turned almost immediately, and they didn't fit him the next year. By the time they came round to fitting DS2, that particular summer had finished and they were too small for him the next.

They ended up in the charity shop pile with the labels still on.

Teenybooboo · 30/07/2014 22:11

I have a 2 year old boy and found that his trousers from H&M (9-12 months) fit him perfect as just below the knee shorts, as they are very large on the waist (they have the expanders).

Seems silly but they look and fit great and saves spending on clothes :)
