To want bigger ankles ( lighthearted )

I dred the summer months. Clothes are my worst nightmare as I do not wear shorts, skirts or anything that would have me get my legs out. I don't like my skinny ankles and long to make them look bigger, exercise doesn't help.I look at ladies in their lovely little floaty summer dressses and cute sandals with their nice ankles and think they look so lovely but it will never be me.
When the maxi dress became fashion I praised the fashion gods because it gave me light relief in the summer.
Friends say I have slim ankles, but they are ok because their ankles are normal looking I think they are just trying to pacify me.
Had an ex that used to take the piss and say my legs look like chicken drumsticks and would then put his head back and laugh at his own comment!

Bongobaby, are you for real?

I would kill for lovely slim ankles. Slim ankles look great in a dress.

Mine are fat and more like cankles (they don't go in at all). Just straight up and down from knee to foot.
more like tree trunks Shock

sweetnessandlite · 30/07/2014 21:03

(can't believe we have reached a state where people want fat ankles instead of slim ones).

This HAS to be a joke.

How...? what...? OK, I can guarantee, hand on heart, that in all my many years, I have never considered the circumference of another woman's ankles.

Bongobaby · 30/07/2014 21:23

I guess that I am really paranoid about my ankles and don't get them out in public. It's nice to know tho of other ladies perspective on it. Might get me to face my fear and get them out thanks to you lovely mumsnetters giving me some confidence

Oh bongobaby please swap ankles with me! Mine have always been chunky no matter how slim I am and I hate them.

sweetnessandlite · 30/07/2014 21:26

Bongobaby,
Get those ankles out.
Better for them to be too slim than too fat.

Bongobaby · 30/07/2014 21:28

Done deal Hollycomputer

Honest to god, who are you hanging around with Bongo ? Flick them two of your elegantly long fingers and turn on your delicate heels and walk off. They're knobheads.

legalalien · 30/07/2014 21:31

Obfuskate :)

Couldn't believe it myself.

legalalien · 30/07/2014 21:33

I particularly liked the part where not even the cutting winds if winter would preclude the fair sex in Melbourne from giving joy by flashing their limbs. Those nineteen twenties sure were roaring.

NumberOneFan · 30/07/2014 21:39

I also have very skinny ankles and when I was a teenager I refused to wear shoes without two pairs of socks as I thought they looked ridiculous (!)
Ha! I used to do this as well!

I too have skinny ankles, I can fit my thumb and middle finger around mine as well. I hate them! I have to work really hard at keeping my thighs slim otherwise my legs look like carrots.

Bongobaby · 30/07/2014 21:45

Numberonefan you can do that too, thought I was the only one! How do your ankles make you feel if you don't mind me asking?

I am wheezing with laughter at his thread (with respect to the op - I am loving your metaphorical paint brush legs and twix fingers!!).
I have thick ankles and they look like trotters. I think you should post a picture of your elegant ankles....

AlleyCat11 · 30/07/2014 23:07

I had lovely fine ankles until recently. Now my legs have thickened & my ankles are disappearing. I think it's fluid retention, as my legs feel heavy. It's v annoying as I'm a dress person.
My Mother has skinny legs & has always hated them. Still, she looks great in a bikini at 60. But there's no telling her...

LapsedTwentysomething · 31/07/2014 01:26

I have skinny ankles with muscular calfs (calves?!) and hefty thighs well hefty everything really I remember someone pointing and laughing on a night out when I was slimmer, proclaiming that I had legs like a cart horse.

TBH I struggle to care. I'd much rather have skinny ankles than cankles. Also it gives me confidence that there is a slim person lurking within Grin
