To want bigger ankles ( lighthearted )

I dred the summer months. Clothes are my worst nightmare as I do not wear shorts, skirts or anything that would have me get my legs out. I don't like my skinny ankles and long to make them look bigger, exercise doesn't help.I look at ladies in their lovely little floaty summer dressses and cute sandals with their nice ankles and think they look so lovely but it will never be me.
When the maxi dress became fashion I praised the fashion gods because it gave me light relief in the summer.
Friends say I have slim ankles, but they are ok because their ankles are normal looking I think they are just trying to pacify me.
Had an ex that used to take the piss and say my legs look like chicken drumsticks and would then put his head back and laugh at his own comment!

Other than your nasty bastard ex, I would suggest that very few people are really actually looking at your ankles OP and you should wear whatever you want. I bet you look lovely.

I read a post on here the other day that said something like, "You wouldn't worry nearly so much about what others think of you if you realised how seldom they do." That really struck a chord for me.

Envy I have cankles. I'd love slim legs and dainty ankles!

Bongobaby · 30/07/2014 18:53

Chunky shoes are a no no for me. I own forty pairs of high heels and often dress up in them with my short nighty on looking at my ankles in the mirror, thinking how skinny and not right they are.But I would never ever leave the house in high heels and a dress or skirt. Swimming with dc is my worst nightmare aswell because out comes my little ankles I hate it that people could be looking and thinking she needs to sort those ankles out.

So you like to dress up in heels and your short nighty and admire your ankles???? Backs slowly away from thread...

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 30/07/2014 19:02

Perhaps people ARE looking at your ankles thinking that you should sort them out but a) you can't do anything about them and b) people should mind their own business. Has anybody ever commented about them other than your ex? If the answer is no, he's not a good sample of ankle-fanciers and therefore his opinion should be disregarded.

You could wear boots, even in this hot weather and nobody would see them... or you could just congratulate them for articulating your feet and lower legs and stop obsessing over them...

You're fine as you are.

YeGodsAndLittleFishes · 30/07/2014 19:02

I have slim but overbendy ankles (hypermobile). I like the slimness but not the lack of muscular support. Having to do lots of walking and so i have my feet up now to recover.

RedSoloCup · 30/07/2014 19:07

I have pretty slim ankles and think that is a good thing not a bad one?

Bongobaby · 30/07/2014 19:08

Letthemtalk I have these moments not in a weird way but a I wonder what it would be like to go out in heels and a skirt, dress but I'm not brave enough to do it, only behind closed doors by myself. At school come rain or shine I would wear three pairs of thick woollen tights to thicken the look of my ankles up.

Yes once when I was a lot younger some girls in a nightclub que pointed out and were laughing at me because I had a long skirt on just showing my ankles. They were laughing and saying look at her legs like a paintbrush!

With me it's more my wrists...good strong, meaty arms which wither to skinny little wrists and little chubby hands. sigh. No piano playing for me.

justaweeone · 30/07/2014 19:24

I have slim ankles, I have been told it is a sign of good breeding !!?;-)
So what's with my massive thighs then??!
If only your body was like playdo.....

Coumarin · 30/07/2014 19:48

I've been told 'sturdy' thighs and wide hips are a sign if good breeding Just Grin We're obviously thoroughbreds.

SurfBoredCat · 30/07/2014 19:56

I also have very skinny ankles and when I was a teenager I refused to wear shoes without two pairs of socks as I thought they looked ridiculous (!)

I also have very skinny legs which never get fat, no matter how much weight the rest of me gains, which sounds good but I think I look like Henry Viii and an ex of mine said I looked like Tina Turner

Bloody exes have a lot to answer for! I bet your ankles are lovely!

It is so easy to, fixate on one (unsatisfactory) part of our body - I bet the vast majority of us have wanted to change something at some time in our lives. It's also very easy to remember the one or two nasty comments people have made about our appearance -most of us have experienced that too. For some reason , nice comments aren't' remembered nearly so vividly.

The infuriating thing is that I bet your ex was not an Adonis himself but felt quite justified in criticising your appearance. Just think of all the unlovely bits of him (as well as his horrible, arrogant personality) and try to get his comments into proportion. Don't let him sap your confidence any more.

bialystockandbloom · 30/07/2014 20:13

I've got skinny ankles too, and would be pleased, were it not for the fact that my calves are ridiculously and disproportionately muscly (once got them waxed and the beautician actually gasped and asked if I was a gymnast ffs). One accentuates the other.

Actually I wish I lived in Victorian times where an ankle was the only part allowed to be bared in decent society - would've tricked everyone into thinking my legs were great all the way up.

But your ex is a knob - since when has slim ankles been a negative thing?!

CarmineRose1978 · 30/07/2014 20:17

God, I have terrible cankles. I used to wear trousers or long skirts all the time to hide them - once my brother caught sight of them unexpectedly, and gasped "Carmine, are you ok? your ankles are really swollen!" Bless him, he was really concerned. I explained that no, that's what they always look like and he was quite abashed. (Totally outed myself with that story, if there's anyone I know on here).

I'm in my 30s now and no longer really give a toss, so I'm happy to wear shorter skirts and cropped trousers etc.

legalalien · 30/07/2014 20:28

Bialy I'm just the same. ds aged six once told me that my calves looked like chicken breasts. Err....

This thread has reminded me of an expression my poppa used to use - that someone has "ankles like a mullingar heifer". Have just google it, unsurprisingly an Irish expression, although he wasn't Irish..

stillenacht1 · 30/07/2014 20:43

I hate my revolting cankles and would love my legs to slim down at the bottom. It's horrible- I can't wear skirts (other than maxi) or tunic/leggings comboHmm I am v jealous!

Bongobaby · 30/07/2014 20:54

Roll on winter when jeans are my best friend and can't stick to me like they do in the summer. I will have no more thoughts of wanting surgery to make my ankles bigger.
I long to go out in a little light skirt in this weather, I'm just the same in my thought process and haven't worn a bikini since god was born.
But it's my ankles that get me the most, they are so slim I can fit my thumb and long middle finger round one ankle just to give you a picture of them!
