It cant be!

Watching the Adam and Joe show on the Sky thingy, and everything on there, including the show itself, is only a few years old.

Please tell me it is, otherwise I am watching a program that I watched as an adult but is almost 20 years old.

Oh and 1984 was only 5 minutes before that, because if it isnt then I am officially old and my record collection is laughable!

What really makes my head implode is thinking about it the other way. Like thinking that 1996 was 18 years ago is bad enough but then I realise that 18 years before THAT was 1978. I don't know why I do this but I always do!

Fluffy40 · 29/07/2014 12:12

That meAns Diana died 17 years ago . We had been married a year when she died.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 29/07/2014 12:25

'Christ was just starting uni'

It wasn't that long ago...

In 1996 I left school and started going out with now DH Grin.

At the time he had the first of our many MK III Escorts, and up until a few years ago we were still driving round in one.

Awesome times. Both our sets of parents were still together, and both our Dads were still alive. I'd go back in time for that reason alone.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 29/07/2014 12:27

My wonderful niece was born in 1996.

She's a mumsnetter...

gertiegusset · 29/07/2014 13:09

Erm, excuse moi Ferret but you aren't much older are you.

phantomnamechanger · 29/07/2014 14:12

We got married in 1996.
Obviously I must only have been about 12 Wink was 26

I never used to understand my nana telling me she felt the same in her 50s as in her 20s, I sure as heck do now (only 6 years till I'm 50 myself eek!)

manchestermummy · 29/07/2014 15:10

I work in HE. Some of our new students this Sept will have been born in 1996. They are children.

I was a sixth former in 1996. Not Year 12 or 13 or somesuch, a sixth fomer

Pipbin · 29/07/2014 15:23

I've just finished teaching children born in 2009. How can someone born last week be capable of speaking in a full sentence.

ariadneoliver · 29/07/2014 15:34

It is interesting to think that everything that happened before 1979 was closer to the end of the Second World War than to today. I'm looking at you Punk Rock.

BreeVDKamp · 29/07/2014 15:40

OMG that's terrifying.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 29/07/2014 16:02

No Gertie i'm not.

halfdrunkcoffee · 29/07/2014 16:27

Yadnbu, it surely can't be the case that a child born when I was 17 would now be grown up. It must be 7 years ago tops!

phantomnamechanger · 29/07/2014 18:14

I have spent a few nosy hours looking up past pupils on FB - they are friends of a friend, who was also their teacher 14-15 years ago.

OMG those babies I taught well, ok, they were 14/15 now look almost middle aged! and what's worse, most of my DCs teachers are considerably younger than that first cohort I taught

and what's more, some of them could be you lot or your DPs!

ginslinger · 29/07/2014 18:17

I'll tell you what is even more recent than that - 1977 when i got married

Darkesteyes · 29/07/2014 18:20

Time goes faster the older you get. I remember someone taking me aside at my 18th birthday party in 1991 and telling me that I would find that time would start to go much faster.

eg the time between 1984 and 1990 seems longer than the time between 2004 and 2010 yet its exactly the same amount of time.

Pipbin · 29/07/2014 18:29

And things like Christmas seem to be every other week.
As somr

Pipbin · 29/07/2014 18:30

Arrrgh.

As someone said 'I seem to be constantly having breakfast'.

DownstairsMixUp · 29/07/2014 18:35

I remember 1996 like it was yesterday still! I remember the Spice Girls explosion. Wannabe being number 1 for six weeks then them slowly taking over with pepsi cans, lollypops, dolls and god knows what else. Then remember 2 become 1 coming out xmas 1996 to and watching TOTP. Happy days :)

SnookyPooky · 29/07/2014 19:58

Met my now DH in 1996. Christ on a bike.

wigglesrock · 29/07/2014 20:02

I got engaged in 1996!

FrankelandFilly · 29/07/2014 20:03

Take That had their first number one in 1993 - Pray. That's 21 years ago Shock

ViviPru · 29/07/2014 20:07

I bloody adore Adam Buxton. That is all.

Bogeyface · 29/07/2014 21:10

Glad its not just me then, thanks for the reassurance that I am 23 and not in fact 41 as my birth certifcate says, I really must get that corrected.....:o

My favourite programme in 1996 was This Life - what is scary is that they did a This Life reunion in 2007 - which can only be about 10 mins ago. They are ready for another one now! Shock
