Inspired by another thread sorry.

I bought some ballet style pumps from Dorothy perkins. Wore them once, walked for literally 5 minutes in them and got 3 blisters. So I took them back to the shop, truthfully told them what had happened and they wouldn't let me have a refund. They said they couldn't as they'd been worn and couldn't be resold. Fair enough you can't sell them but I can't bloody wear them! She told me they needed 'breaking in'. They cost £20 so pretty cheap for shoes but it's a lot of money to me.

Would I be unreasonable to take them to a different branch and lie and say I haven't worn them (you can't tell by looking at them) but that I tool the labels off and realised they didn't go well with the outfit I'd planned?

Personally I wouldn't take shoes back for that reason as they aren't defective, everyone has different shaped feet and how can you guarantee they won't rub every single person?

I have had pumps that fit like a glove and some that cripple me, never thought to take them back

Blueberrymuffint0p · 22/07/2014 19:44

Obfus-you're right, I am/was disproportionately angry about it! Sometimes little things like this, when you're going through a tough patch are enough to tip the balance. I actually felt like crying when the manager said no to my original return, I know that's not a rational reaction but she was really unpleasant and sometimes a bit of kindness goes a long way.

Anyway, I've got my money back, will be purchasing myself some comfortable shoes at the weekend which Iwill dudutifully walk around the house in for at least 6 minutes!

Shame on you

I would have authorised this refund originally. So with that in mind, YANBU.

I once tried to return a bra to debenhams because it left horrific marks on my back and chest. Had the tags, just not attached - no receipt :(

Return declined.

Went to another branch and said it was an unwanted gift. Got a credit note.

Flipflops7 · 22/07/2014 20:09

The only person losing out will be the poor sap who buys them.

My friend (not just saying that as I would just put up with it) once brought a pair of next shoes that were meant to be really comfy. They weren't rubbed her feet loads. So she emailed their customer services who paid to have them sent back and tested them to see if they had any faults. They didn't but as a goodwill gesture still refunded her. That's good customer service!

So OP if you can't go in try emailing first!

Exactly this!

How bloody daft to think every style and make of shoe in your size is going to fit! Hmm

Fluffycloudland77 · 22/07/2014 20:17

I'd have taken them back too.

Blueberrymuffint0p · 22/07/2014 20:17

Yes, I am being honest. I walked in them for 2 mins from the car to classroom and back again.

YABU but justify it all you like.

I got a pair of £90 shoes that rubbed wicked blisters. I wouldn't mind but they were fitted in a proper shoe shop! My feet got hot and swelled. They need wearing in. It was my own fault, not the shoes. Some people expect way too much from customer services!

Itsfab · 22/07/2014 20:19

YABU

I spent £45 on boots from M&S and I felt they were too narrow. I walked around the shop in them for a bit and they were fine so I bought them. Turns out I can't wear them for long Sad. No way would I take them back. My fault.

I would un pick a bit of the sole or stitching and make them damaged then it's because there faulty

mumtosome61 · 22/07/2014 20:25

Only £20 for shoes? Wow, some people would be very judgypants if they saw the teeny amount I forgo for shoes; I'm a regular bargain buyer.

To be honest, I often buy shoes that give me blisters initially - partly because I walk everywhere and partly because I'm stupid and should know better than just assuming a quick walk around in a shop suffices. Some of my most comfortable shoes now gave me a weeks worth of moderate pain, so I make do Grin.

Would I take them back? I'd want to for £20, but I'd also know that I probably wouldn't.

ThatWasNice · 22/07/2014 20:26

Clarks suggest you wear the shoes for a while around the house to check they are comfortable. As long as you don't wear them outside then it's ok.

I can never tell if shoes will be comfortable from a few minutes walking up and down in the shoe shop.

Branleuse · 22/07/2014 20:31

schuh give you a full year to return if theyre unworn, and wearing for 5 mins around the house.

They're no more second hand than any new shoes being tried on and walked around the shop in

MyFairyKing · 22/07/2014 20:32

Having a hard time does not justify this IMO.

TurboWithAKick · 22/07/2014 20:39

You walked from the car to school and back again.... And presumably from house to car as well.... So you wore them outside to do the school run

It's ok, karma will get ya, it's a bitch like that

Branleuse · 22/07/2014 20:40

lol, yes the karma

CatsCantTwerk · 22/07/2014 22:09

Are you sure it was not hoofs clogs you bought? I have never heard so much trip trap in all my life.

FiveGetIntoTrouble · 22/07/2014 22:52

Ah yes, but most importantly, which shoes were they?

DontPutMeDownForCardio · 22/07/2014 23:02

Fuck me she didnt use the shoes to kick a baby animal to death. She wore them for a few minutes then returned them. Karma? Get a grip its a pair of shoes!
