To have told this man his t shirt was offensive?

I have to say in general I think slogan tees are wanky on adults.

Anyway on the train today a man was standing there with a t shirt that said something along the lines of: the daily mail - like being in a mental hospital for 20 minutes.

He caught me reading it and chuckled. I said I didn't think it was funny I thought it was offensive.

I've been sectioned myself and I'll be damned if I ever read the daily mail or share it's ridiculous views.

AIBU to think if you really feel the need to share your newspaper related views via your t shirt you should keep the mentally ill and any other vulnerable person out of it?

Notbatman sounds like an extreme libertarian. I've met some, usually Americans, who argue that compulsory seat belts in cars are a restriction on personal freedom. The arguments she/he make follow that sort of reasoning.

She/he is completely wrong that offence can only be taken, not given. The law in England and Wales and Scotland is quite clear on that.

There have, for example, been several convictions of people who thought they had the right to post offensive comments about April Jones and Madeleine McCann on social media sites.

There was no need for the prosecution to prove Mr and Mrs Jones and the Drs McCann had even seen the comments , let alone be offended by them, or that any particular person was offend, to secure convictions. The aim of people who make such comments is simply to give offence.

I suppose one has to bear in mind the wearers of slogan T-shirts haven't noticed the fine print on them which says

"I'm paying someone else to provide me with an opinion/witty remark as I lack the imagination to come up with any by myself"

More to be pitied than scorned almost.

ohforfoxsake · 21/07/2014 15:20

Obfuskate you are a fucking twat for that link.

MoominKoalaAndMiniMoom · 21/07/2014 15:22

There was a man in Tesco the other day who looked otherwise normal all but for the "FUCK YOU" in florescent green 20cm capitals on the back of his black t-shirt.

What possesses people? Confused

xena26 · 21/07/2014 15:25

xena26 · 21/07/2014 15:25

I'm pretty sure 95% of mumsnet talk consists of 1st world problems

Was the fact that the title says its about a tee shirt not give you a clue. Or did you think it was a tee shirt bearing a blue print for resolving the conflict in Gaza?

MoominKoalaAndMiniMoom · 21/07/2014 15:34

Should note before anyone attacks me, my t-shirt is only offensive to zombie victims Blush

ohforfoxsake · 21/07/2014 15:42

That's kind of what you did by not saying what it was. I had no idea and clicked on it. Not funny and I'm glad not to have friends like you.

My daughter. She'd really appreciate it if you did, too.

dawndonnaagain · 21/07/2014 15:46

fox the link was entirely within context of the ongoing discussion.

SallyMcgally · 21/07/2014 15:47

To be fair to ObfusKate it was clear from the context that there were going to be jokes there that sick-minded people would find funny. It does seem a horrible site.

queenofthemountain · 21/07/2014 15:57

That shit is still unnecessary.

Still, proves to me what I've been thinking about MN for a while. Time to fuck off and leave the twats alone.

dawndonnaagain · 21/07/2014 16:29
