To be shocked at what I saw at a Toby Carvery?

I went to a Toby Carvery the other day. I had two types of meat, a Yorkshire pudding, veg and gravy. I had a good sized portion, ate it all and didn't feel the need to go up again. I'm quite smug that I know how much to put on my plate without wasting it.

However, I could see the gravy/sauce table from where I was sitting and saw a few very overweight young people, late teens/early 20's with 3 - yes 3 Yorkshire puddings on their plates, a mound of veg and ladling on bucketfuls of gravy.

Surely this is not normal and they were just greedy.

only one yorkshire pudding?? are you mad?

ICanSeeTheSun · 20/07/2014 13:17

My local Toby allows you to do takeout, I have done that got 3 dinners and shared it between the 4 of is Blush

goodasitgets · 20/07/2014 13:18

We have a different carvery (can't remember the brand), £3.75 and you get as many Yorkshire pudding and as much stuffing as you like Wink

I live alone and it's where I go when I want to overload on veg, I couldn't cook it for that price

SauvignonBlanche · 20/07/2014 13:19

You can point and tut as well, if you like, Randall.

I'll put my lipstick on if my picture's going to be in the Chronicle.

fanoftheinvisibleman · 20/07/2014 13:19

People get bitched about if they load up their plates and bitched about if they push lettuce round their plate in public. Yabu to worry about anyone elses food intake but your own.

Fwiw people who sit there gawping at other people far more annoying in public eateries than people eating a lot.

WorraLiberty · 20/07/2014 13:24

Actually, if I was going to judge anyone it would be those who pile their plates up and don't eat most of what's on it.

I hate seeing all the food go to waste unnecessarily.

On the other hand, some people are very self conscious about making more than one trip up to the carvery, so perhaps they pile their plates in order to avoid it.

Aeroflotgirl · 20/07/2014 13:26

Ooooh I eat worra, I can eat quite a bit Smile

ExcuseTypos · 20/07/2014 13:28

I've never been in a Toby carvery, however I'm quite tempted if they let you have three yorkshires.

When we were children we had 2 each with our meal then we'd have another one with sugar on it, then we'd have our pudding. Yes I'm northernWink

WorraLiberty · 20/07/2014 13:29

Aero!!! I'm not on offer to eat Shock

Although if you carve me thinly, I could probably last a few months Grin

Birdsgottafly · 20/07/2014 13:29

""I had to prop up the bar drinking large gins for almost four hours just to make sure I wasn't seeing things.""

If you went to Weatherspoons, you could be downing cocktail pitchers, 2 for £12.

And they do cut price themed nights.

Randal

www.tobycarvery.co.uk/thebaronscourtpenarth/

I've been there. I stuffed my plate so full it was like a mining expedition to find my meat.

LUSH

HaroldLloyd · 20/07/2014 13:33

To be fair the yorkshires are the size of UFOs.

Ohwhatfuckeryisthis · 20/07/2014 13:33

My dc love yorkshires and they are skinny as sticks.
Is smugness fattening?

foreverforaging · 20/07/2014 13:35

Who cares?

They make me look better...

Laquitar · 20/07/2014 13:36

I didn't want to read the thread because i thought you saw something really shocking and awful.

Now i am glad i clicked on it because the mentioning of their ages made me smile. We used to do this. We would go to Deep Pan Pizza, two of us went in and ordered the buffet, we would pile the plates with as many slices as we could, then the rest of the gang 'happened' to pass by and popped in to say hello (grin)
And then of course we would fill a bag aswell for next day!

HaroldLloyd · 20/07/2014 13:43

When I was a student went to the pizza buffets all the time. We used to make cunning circles around the rim of the bowl with cucumber to get loads more in.

Goodadvice1980 · 20/07/2014 13:44

OP, if this shocks you don't ever go to the USA - you'll have a pink fit watching diners at an all you can eat over there!

I am shocked at people who have the Toby all you can eat breakfast and wash it all down with a drink of coke though!

TheReluctantCountess · 20/07/2014 13:44

Smug and judgemental.

This reminds me of a co-worker who I overheard moaning that she went to a Toby carvery and was served by a fat ginger person. The horror!

Stratter5 · 20/07/2014 13:45

I'm glad I clicked on this too; I've never been to a Toby carvery, I hope there's one local to me.

When I make Yorkshire puddings my DH has a minimum of 8, dd1 and ds1 have at least 3 and follow it with a roast dinner, and they're all skinny.

HoneyDragon · 20/07/2014 13:47

Yeah. Surely you'd have a beer or vodka and orange?

HaroldLloyd · 20/07/2014 13:48

Amazing hangover cure, fry up and a glass of dirty black pop.
