to feel sad about people's perception of having sons.

A random conversation in the staffroom at work, general chit chat about children. The mother of two daughters who go to the same nursery as my sons said "I'm sure your boys are lovely but I'm SO glad I have girls! Boys are just horrid!" then other mum's of girls started chiming in with comments about how generally noisy/smelly/disgusting/horrible boys are and what a nightmare they must be. I laughed it off, my boys can be a handful. What under 3yr old isn't occasionally noisy and dirty? However, watching my two sons sitting quietly looking at books together this morning, I'm filled with sadness that people actually perceive them in such a negative way.

I didn't tell you that you were missing out - that was your shit.

But don't bang on about your amazing bond with your daughters and how we are all missing out when you know jack about bringing up a boy.

Thanks.

Ladyofthehouse · 23/07/2014 21:29

I get these types of comments about my two girls! They like snails, playing in mud, going high on swings etc and I always get they're tomboys or a right handful....or like boys!! I have two nephews who I adore and they've never touched a snail and aren't outdoorsy in the slightest......!!? So my point is.....children are just children!!

blossommy · 23/07/2014 21:32

I am mum of boys (teens now) and have lost count of the number of comments ive had over the years: poor you, will you keep trying for a girl, how do you think you'll cope being the 2nd grandma (!), were you upset when you realised it was another boy etc etc etc

I just look at them as though they're either speaking a foreign language or with mild disdain/pity Hmm

slipslipslippy · 23/07/2014 21:34

I do have lots of nephews.

So its not true to say I know nothing of raising boys.

I also work in a male dominated environment and to be quite honest I'm glad I'm not raising someone whose thoughts will be eventually be dominated by their cock.

No matter how powerful/clever/kind the individual is, it invariably comes down to sex with men. What is between their legs does count ..

I know someone has to raise boys - I'm just glad it isn't me. Don't get me wrong, I love my nephews and would have fallen head over heels in love if I had had a boy.

But as an objective onlooker, I am so glad that's someone isn't me.

And as so many women want girls, I can't be the only on that thinks like that.

5madthings · 23/07/2014 21:38

What a load of shite!

You must know some shit men if it all comes down to sex for them. Do you think so disparagingly of your own partner/husband?

How sad to have such a low opinion of boys and men and hugely offensive as well.

weatherall · 23/07/2014 21:40

There are attitudes like this everywhere.

Girls are like... xyz

Boys are like... xyz

People do this from before birth. Socialising in sexual stereotypes.

If you expect your DS/DD to behave in a certain way then they will often live up to those expectations.

Then these same people evangelize about how sex differences are 'innate'.

KnittingRocks · 23/07/2014 21:41

You tragic woman. I truly hope my amazing sons never have the misfortune to cross the path of people like you. And my incredible husband who is not dominated by his cock in anyway whatsoever - you sad sad cow. Thank fuck you didn't have boys - you don't deserve them.

Assuming you're praying your girls will both be lesbians too?

HaroldLloyd · 23/07/2014 21:42

Actually just totally speechless by your post slippy. Wow.

myotherusernameisbetter · 23/07/2014 21:42

presumably slip is hoping her girls are lesbians then?

myotherusernameisbetter · 23/07/2014 21:43

it's posts like that that make me sad to be female.

slipslipslippy · 23/07/2014 21:46

I don't have a low opinion of dh. Or the men I work with.

I just understand how they think.

Years of listening to conversations most women don't get to hear I guess ...

myotherusernameisbetter · 23/07/2014 21:46

Do you live in a box with no access to news?

Nope I live in my house with my husband and sons - i used to live in my house with my Dad and brothers - lots of decent men and boys and work with loads too. Also work with some woman who are the smuggest, up their own arse people I have ever met. Not all of them.

Erm, I don't think you do.

HaroldLloyd · 23/07/2014 21:47

You would probably be better off thinking with your vagina. Your brain isn't serving you too well right now!

slipslipslippy · 23/07/2014 21:47

It makes me sad there are females in this world that are this niave.

In 2014.

I guess these are the same women that are shocked their husbands are capable of affairs ..

myotherusernameisbetter · 23/07/2014 21:47

Years of listening to conversations most women don't get to hear I guess ...

Are you a stripper or a prostitute or do you hang about in men's toilets?

KnittingRocks · 23/07/2014 21:47

"most women don't get to hear"

I have two brothers and loads of male friends - don't talk such patronising shite. If you get the impression men all think with their dicks you're hanging out with the wrong men.

KnittingRocks · 23/07/2014 21:48

So are you clarifying, your daughters are going to be warned off men?

slipslipslippy · 23/07/2014 21:48

Being controlled by their need to have sex isn't the same as being a pedophile.

I don't 'hang out' with the wrong men.

I work with all sorts of men. From all different backgrounds. And all different countries.

And it comes back to the same thing ...

Although granted not the conversation you would have in front of your daughter sat by the cosy fire of an evening ...

myotherusernameisbetter · 23/07/2014 21:50

so on the news there are loads of men who are being controlled by their need to have sex? I guess I am watching the wrong sort of news.
