I haven't slept for 36 hours . I am thinking I will pass out and miss it .
(Pip .I had to care for a pippestrelle bat when younger - as advised by the Bat preservation society. Had to keep it in my cleavage for the optimum temp .)

North Surrey here. I haven't seen a storm that dramatic in years.

I'm tired now though :)

dawndonnaagain · 18/07/2014 20:21

I'm hoping for a storm here, still!

dawndonnaagain · 18/07/2014 20:22

this may give you an idea of when/where

ballsballsballs · 18/07/2014 20:46

The sky has gone a bit yellow.

Sallystyle · 18/07/2014 20:48

It's meant to hit at midnight here but the sky is now turning very dark.

LEMmingaround · 18/07/2014 20:52

LIZS · 18/07/2014 20:56

phantomnamechanger · 18/07/2014 20:58

It went black as anythng about half hour ago (south kent) and a few flashes and the WIND is like something else! Not raining yet though, but much cooler now than it was earlier!
It's gonna bucket down any minute now!

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 18/07/2014 21:00

A storm-related question for people who understand physics....

last night when the storm was in full flow one of our consumer unit switches flicked off. This is a lighting circuit we have had problems with since moving in - just keeps tripping and 3 sparks have failed to find the problem.

So, by what means did an outside lightening storm trip our upstairs lighting circuit?! And do I need to worry about it?

ancientbuchanan · 18/07/2014 21:11

It's begun again. 15 miles or so away, I'd guess.

ancientbuchanan · 18/07/2014 21:12

No need to water the garden.

sparkle101 · 18/07/2014 21:13

We're in south east kent and it's starting to kick off, that wind is immense!

apermanentheadache · 18/07/2014 21:13

Where are you, ancient?

MyCarHasBrokenDownAgain · 18/07/2014 21:17

We've just been sat in the car park at the quayside in Newhaven (East Sussex) and watched it come in over the sea - amazing forked lightening over the water, and sheet lightening all around! Car park was packed Grin Tis now chucking it down, and rumbling away to itself. Still so hot tho!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/07/2014 21:19

There's a lot of info in this thread in weather which may or may not be of interest.

hoobypickypicky · 18/07/2014 21:20

It's coming over very gloomy and humid here. It's on the way.

I'm concerned about the pylon outside next door's house. It's leaning and during January's storms one lot of wires touched another lot which cross over it, causing a lengthy power cut (electric and phone wires). I called BT and the electricity company, the former denied responsibility, the latter sent an engineer out who said that yes, the pylon is wonky but it shouldn't be a problem and that they'll correct it at some stage. Hmm

I was away last night and this afternoon but my son tells me that there was another power cut earlier this pm as a result of wires touching due to last night's storm.

BT have been out, confirmed that the pylon is wonky again and that it needs replacing or repairing. Great.

phantomnamechanger · 18/07/2014 21:23

I cant believe how dark it has gone now, its like a horror film watching the lightning, DS is scared, we will all be under the duvet singing about our favourite things soon!

LEMmingaround · 18/07/2014 21:26

Its kicking off here but dont think it will be spectacular

inlectorecumbit · 18/07/2014 21:31

I love a good thunderstorm but none up here yet Sad

ballsballsballs · 18/07/2014 21:33

I've just seen lightning in the distance.

MackerelOfFact · 18/07/2014 21:39

I'm in South London, last night was the longest, loudest and flashiest storm I can remember in many many years. The air smelt really metallic too, I thought at one point that I must have a nosebleed or something!

It feels like something is brewing and I can hear thunder rumbling in the distance, the sky has been dark for a good couple of hours but nothing much yet.
