Either I slept through it, or the storm didn't get to East Kent!

ShadowsShadowsEverywhere · 18/07/2014 07:57

Oh rubbish! I'm a very heavy sleeper and I've missed it. I love storms!

EBearhug · 18/07/2014 07:57

Basingstoke was around 1am. I like a good storm, but I am so tired from lack of sleep, that once I closed the spare room window (the carpet will dry before someone stays there this weekend, won't it?) I just crawled back into bed and went back to sleep. I think I may have been woken again around 3am, but I might have dreamt that bit.

caramelwaffle · 18/07/2014 08:00

Ah yes. Lightning.

Lara Yes, I meant Forest Gate.

It's going to be really muggy today.

TheFirstOfHerName · 18/07/2014 08:12

I'm in S.W.Herts and it was epic! I don't think I've ever experienced a storm that impressive.

OldJacksScarf · 18/07/2014 08:13

Brighton here. Storm hit at 1.30ish, huge thunder and lightning for half an hour before the rain hit. The lightning was nearly non stop, we were right in the middle of it.

dawndonnaagain · 18/07/2014 08:23

Nothing in Suffolk. Hot and muggy already, here. Mind, I'm just up the road from Latitude so I suspect there are a few who really don't want it!

Katiebeau · 18/07/2014 08:42

On the Isle of Wight. Several hrs of long and loud thunder rolls and very heavy rain. Not good in a caravan!!! DH snored through it all Shock

Not looking forward to returning to Herts. Temps here low 20s and lovely!!!!!

Hopefully no storms when we cross the Solent tomorrow.

Joysmum · 18/07/2014 08:47

I didn't see or hear a thing thanks to blackout curtains, air con (so the windows were shut) and my headphones which I have on all night if hubby has a night of snoring.

Perfectlypurple · 18/07/2014 08:54

We didn't have it bad in the south west. Although it did keep me awake. Watched criminal minds with a stalker at the windows story line. Made me too scared to go downstairs to get a drink!

When we were coming back from holiday we flew over a lightning storm. We were above the clouds and you could see constant light flashes lighting up the clouds. It was an amazing sight but the turbulence wasn't great.

hiccupgirl · 18/07/2014 09:10

Essex - mini storm at 4am then just about got back to sleep when the mega storm came in just before 6am. The lightening and thunder just went on and on and on!

DS and DH both slept through the whole thing so I watched with the cat.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 18/07/2014 09:24

Tali I'm in North Essex too, that rain was something else wasn't it!

It certainly was Blondie. I love the smell of rain.

My DD slept through both the mini storm and the bigger one, then my DD sleeps like the dead. I got a great view of the storm from the sofa, thank god for big patio doors.

oldgrandmama · 18/07/2014 09:27

Amazing here in Islington. Cat slept through it all (she doesn't mind fireworks either) and I was snug in bed happy that I wouldn't have to water our communal courtyard later today. But didn't realise skylight was slightly open ... very wet stairs. Ah well, it's only water.

SaucyJack · 18/07/2014 09:35

West Sussex coast here- massive storm starting around 1.45.

You must've slept through the lot salty.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 18/07/2014 11:15

Omg its damn hot now.

MoominKoalaAndMiniMoom · 18/07/2014 11:17

We really need a storm up here to clear the air :( it's still boiling in NE Wales. The inside temperature was 30c last night. I'm setting up the paddling pool in the kitchen for DD Grin

Love a good storm, send some lightning our way Grin

OwlCapone · 18/07/2014 11:40

It doesn't seem to have cleared the air much here! It was lovely at 8:30am on the school run, not so much now.

SpottyTeacakes · 18/07/2014 11:43

Hasn't cleared the air here either!

SaltySeaBird · 18/07/2014 11:43

Spoke to my Mum and sister who both live nearby and neither of them heard anything either, I'm not sure it did hit this area (East Sussex / Kent border)

BelleOfTheBorstal · 18/07/2014 11:51

I think I woke up for the twenty minutes or so it was directly overhead in North London.
That thunder must have been the loudest I have ever heard and I have experienced very impressive thunder storms on numerous occaisions. I actually felt intimidated and then relieved when it moved away!

SpottyTeacakes · 18/07/2014 11:57

I think it went north of you salty. Although saying that I've seen some good photos of lightning in brighton from last night.

pippistrelle · 18/07/2014 12:03

The best type of storm - loud, dramatic, but no damage done (touch wood).

More tonight by the sounds of it. I heard a weather forecaster describe last night's as energetic but warned 'you ain't seen nothing yet'.

OwlCapone · 18/07/2014 12:04

No damage? My car was serviced on Tuesday and was gleaming Now it's covered in dusty rain marks :(

Wink
Waltonswatcher · 18/07/2014 12:36

Pipistrelle please tell me you are kidding ? I was awake and terrified all night , and I mean all night .
I know its ridiculous , think its verging on phobia tbh .
My Dh was pretty nasty this morning ; I thanked him for the cuddles and he said "you are really irritating when you are like that " . Charming , white knight image vanished .

pippistrelle · 18/07/2014 12:58

Poor Waltonswatcher. There are supposed to be more, I'm afraid, but it's in the nature of thunderstorms to be a bit hit and miss, so you might be lucky and miss them.
