To want to set the record straight about the Cedar Falls Nurse In

I am organising the peaceful protest OUTSIDE THE GATES of Cedar Falls. The protest is not taking place because Victoria tried to take an under 16 to an age-restricted place expecting special treatment it is because the spa have cancelled her booking rather than allowing her to make alternative arrangements. Whatever has happened in the past is immaterial and I am horrified by the muck-raking and bullying instigated here last night. I, personally, do not condone the online attack on their Facebook page but that is of course up to the individual., I have also requested members of the event to remove any they may have already posted but I have no power to do so. For those who are uninformed breastfeeding at 1 is not only recommended but it aids nutrition, soothing and attachment- for Victoria's child they may or may not have required a feed during this weekend but provision needed to be in place to facilitate this and it would be unfair for the child not to ensure this is possible, this does not mean that a nursing mother must be sequestered away from living a normal adult life for the duration. The rights regarding discrimination is to protect the right of the breastfeeding mother to do so. I won't be returning here to fight the fight but as MNHQ deleted the last thread I have had to start my own to give you my own twopence'th if anybody wants to contact us for more information the email address is [email protected]

She can't feed in a place where children aren't allowed full stop...bottle, breast or raw meat wouldn't be allowed. I dare say bringing a child into the grounds would invalidate cf insurance etc.

We completely appreciate that we've already deleted one thread about this at the family's request (due to lots of identifying info about the woman concerned), and so it was rather dismaying that someone associated with the campaign immediately started a new one.

That said, we'd appreciate it if people could remember that there is a real woman, a real family and at least one very young child involved here. We're coming under some pressure to delete this thread, and it would help us enormously if posters would stop posting personal abuse about the woman concerned and her family, and stop talking about sending PMs with links to her personal and business pages. Disagreeing with her actions is one thing, but appearing to be on a mission to destroy her business or personal reputation is, of course, something else.

We've heard that the protest has been called off now, so can we make a generalised plea for peace, love, understanding and a drawing in of horns, please?

Its all very well saying this is a real woman and real family but her actions are affecting the real people that own and work for Cedar Falls and if you deliberately go out and court publicity to damage someones reputation then you must accept there may be a negative backlash.

Seems that she is quite happy to accept the publicity only if it's positive. It's all a bit hypocritical. I think the whole thread should be deleted. Or else it's positive comments only.

Exactly bruffin. A real business Cedar Falls is being affected together with bad publicity and loss of business which could lead to loss of jobs for the people who work there. Doesn't seem there has been much thought given to this. The company has done nothing wrong.

Nobody's bullying us into anything - we're doing our level best to keep the thread. But we (as in MNHQ) nevertheless think it's just not in the spirit of the site to conduct a vendetta against one mother (or indeed to direct abuse at her husband or parents), no matter how misguided her actions may have been.

We're not asking people to stop posting supportively about Cedar Falls. We're just asking people to stop posting abuse about an identifiable woman and her family - in line with our Talk Guidelines.

MNHQ I agree with bruffin. Some sort of backlash is bound to happen when you ask your customers/followers on a fb business page to hit out at another company. Very embarrassing for Cedar Falls to have all those boob pics and awful posts with poor spelling and grammar on their fb page.

Breast feeding is protected under the equality act , but she wasn't cancelled for the act of breast feeding, she's cancelled because she was persistent about bringing a child into an adults venue. AND THIS IS ENTIRELY UP TO THE VENUE

What's wrong with pictures of boobs?

Been following this from the beginning and there does seem to be an undertone of 'urgh bitty' in some people's posts. Although I know lots of people have posted to say that they BFd to 1 and beyond and that they disagreed with the woman anyway which is fine and fair enough of course. But some of the posts definitely have an undertow of 'urgh hairy hippies with their tits, brilliant, at last we get a chance to pile on them without anyone telling us we're wrong'.

Actually I am a little unsure about the law, can someone clarify.

I thought it was illegal to stop a woman from bf, once she had commenced feeding. ie in a shop or cafe. But allowing a bottle fed baby to feed in the same place was discrimination against the bf mother.

I know this is an age thing not a bf thing. But still I'm curious.

Someone posted it on the thread that was deleted, your right is to breastfeed anywhere but if babies are excluded from a venue, babies are not allowed breastfeed or no.

So you can say no babies no matter how you are feeding them, not no breastfeeding your baby here.

Pink, if you directed that at me. Nothing wrong with boobs at all. But I don't think Cedar Falls fb page is really the right place. I feel it does bf mothers a disservice.
