To want to set the record straight about the Cedar Falls Nurse In

Mamagiraffe · 14/07/2014 13:27

I am organising the peaceful protest OUTSIDE THE GATES of Cedar Falls. The protest is not taking place because Victoria tried to take an under 16 to an age-restricted place expecting special treatment it is because the spa have cancelled her booking rather than allowing her to make alternative arrangements. Whatever has happened in the past is immaterial and I am horrified by the muck-raking and bullying instigated here last night. I, personally, do not condone the online attack on their Facebook page but that is of course up to the individual., I have also requested members of the event to remove any they may have already posted but I have no power to do so. For those who are uninformed breastfeeding at 1 is not only recommended but it aids nutrition, soothing and attachment- for Victoria's child they may or may not have required a feed during this weekend but provision needed to be in place to facilitate this and it would be unfair for the child not to ensure this is possible, this does not mean that a nursing mother must be sequestered away from living a normal adult life for the duration. The rights regarding discrimination is to protect the right of the breastfeeding mother to do so. I won't be returning here to fight the fight but as MNHQ deleted the last thread I have had to start my own to give you my own twopence'th if anybody wants to contact us for more information the email address is [email protected]

Some people are just self entitled.

If anything it's made me want to go and support them.

TheFairyCaravan · 15/07/2014 08:46

Are you joking "no harm done" Merrymouse? Shock

Have you seen CF's Fb wall and their Trip Advisor? I would say they have had harm done to their reputation.

Wonc · 15/07/2014 09:03

Agreed The Fairy Caravan.
And Mumsnet seems to be the only place where Victoria L's account is being scrutinised.

Mybigfatredwedding · 15/07/2014 09:17

Seeing as mr Victoria has completely bullshitted about
A) the post only going to some close friends (it went on her very public business page)
And
B) her not asking for a shit storm (she specifically asked people to go onto CFs page and comment)

I would be prepared to bet that there are other aspects to this story that are not quiiiiiiiiite as she says they are.

londonrach · 15/07/2014 09:18

Apart from mn there's nothing else out there baring the previous messages on cf fb page and trip advisor. Luckily daily mail not taken it on....

OooOooTheMonkey · 15/07/2014 09:25

Please tell me I'm not the only one sporadically googling 'cedar falls health spa" to see if anyone has run with it! Apparantly the Taunton gazette were contacted with it but evidently they've not taken it on. I wish CF would SAY something!!!!

merrymouse · 15/07/2014 09:27

I don't think they have had that much harm done to their reputation - I just looked at the Facebook wall and trip advisor.

Cedar Falls still has plenty of recent 5 star reviews and is rated as 4 star based on Trip Advisor reviews. They have some 1 star reviews, some of which seem a bit crazy (which is par for the course on trip advisor), but many (most?) of these seem to precede this incident.

Facebook seems to have as many recent comments from people on Mumsnet (and some spam about loans) as posts prompted by the prize winner's disgruntled daughter.

bruffin · 15/07/2014 09:31

There is only one negative on trip advisor about bf, which was from someone who had actually been there and included the bf complaint as well. Trip advisor refused to print a review of the Hilton I wrote about my sons visit (he has nut allergy and they made a real balls up about which cakes had nuts in and ds was sick) because I wrote it not ds.
Hopefully most sensible people would see the facebook posts for what they are and ignore them. I would love to hear Cedarfalls side of the story.

londonrach · 15/07/2014 09:33

Ooooooo cf is a classy place and if any sense would keep quiet. This will die soon leaving fairy dust behind. The only one coming out if this badly is v.

I think they are just letting it blow over by the looks of it, probably all around the office computer pissing themselves over the facebook page.

Wonder if they will leave them up?

Shows how quickly one person with a vendetta and a reasonable amount of followers can whip up a storm about a company, if no journalists etc have taken it up makes me wonder about the truthfulness of her side of events, as usually this would have been somewhere.

merrymouse · 15/07/2014 09:47

Just checked out a 1 star review from May last year.

Apparently based on the vagueness of the telephone customer service.

"I sharnt be looking to go here anytime soon."

jacks365 · 15/07/2014 09:48

I think even journalists would be wary of someone who has such a back story of complaining and deliberately breaking rules.

LinesThatICouldntChange · 15/07/2014 09:49

A pleasure to wake up earlier and find this still running.

HaroldLloyd · 15/07/2014 09:52

They would have done a little digging and thought nope, not touching this with a barge pole!

"for Victoria's child they may or may not have required a feed during this weekend but provision needed to be in place to facilitate this and it would be unfair for the child not to ensure this is possible"

Of all the things ridiculous in the OP, this stands out to me for several reasons:

  1. Opting to go to a different spa that welcomes children would have gone a long way to facilitate provisions for the child.
  2. EBM delivered by the dad would have facilitated that mum could go to the spa, and child would have milk.

Why does the OP and the mum in question think that the SPA, the establishment that as per their own rules dont welcome children under the age of 16 must facilitate this, and not the parents of the child?

Talking about what is fair for the child, would driving an hour, to get a breastfeed, really be in the childs best interest and upholding the routine?

The argument that this should be facilitated by the spa to ensure that the mum is not "sequestered away from living a normal adult life" is just pure nonsense. Confused

I keep coming back to this, because it is mind-boggling how some peoples minds work.

LinesThatICouldntChange · 15/07/2014 10:13

Two points:

  • still can't believe MN pulled the first thread with no real explanation other than ' V and her family didn't like it' (even though she was happy enough to self publicise and encourage others to try to discredit someone else's business) MN should have more balls than that.
  • while I can see that CF is too classy to want to engage in an indignified public wrangle with V and is perhaps taking the line that overall it's given them good publicity... It would be a valuable lesson if legal action were to be taken against V. Misuse of social media is a really big deal nowadays, and there have been recent criminal convictions based on things people have written in the public domain. Of course, we don't know all the ins and outs of this particular case, but wouldn't it be good if it were to be investigated at the very least
LinesThatICouldntChange · 15/07/2014 10:14

undignified

QuintessentiallyQS · 15/07/2014 10:17

It has been very good publicity for them, I agree.
I only know of three spas in all of England, Rhinefield in the New Forest, The Park House in Sussex, and Cedar Falls in Somerset. One of these I have not visited, yet. Wink

( I promise to not try smuggle my 9 and 12 year old children in )

SauvignonBlanche · 15/07/2014 11:35

The CF FB page is great fun.

AgaPanthers · 15/07/2014 11:47

I like how the OP says it is a PEACEFUL PROTEST. Just in case we thought they might get violent.

What is the point of organising a breastfeeding process? On the one hand they say the protesting is not about breastfeeding mothers but it seems to me a group of breastfeeding women outside a gate turns it into exactly that.

browneyedgirl86 · 15/07/2014 12:09

I am pro breastfeeding but I cannot for the life of me fathom why so many women would jump on the bandwagon like sheep and leash a vendetta against an establishment that clearly states it is adult only. And as for the nursing mothers posting pictures of their breasts with their children on FB? It just comes across as a bit weird. I don't understand it. Children are not allowed regardless of their method of feeding. Period. Why is that so hard to understand?
