To want to set the record straight about the Cedar Falls Nurse In

Mamagiraffe · 14/07/2014 13:27

I am organising the peaceful protest OUTSIDE THE GATES of Cedar Falls. The protest is not taking place because Victoria tried to take an under 16 to an age-restricted place expecting special treatment it is because the spa have cancelled her booking rather than allowing her to make alternative arrangements. Whatever has happened in the past is immaterial and I am horrified by the muck-raking and bullying instigated here last night. I, personally, do not condone the online attack on their Facebook page but that is of course up to the individual., I have also requested members of the event to remove any they may have already posted but I have no power to do so. For those who are uninformed breastfeeding at 1 is not only recommended but it aids nutrition, soothing and attachment- for Victoria's child they may or may not have required a feed during this weekend but provision needed to be in place to facilitate this and it would be unfair for the child not to ensure this is possible, this does not mean that a nursing mother must be sequestered away from living a normal adult life for the duration. The rights regarding discrimination is to protect the right of the breastfeeding mother to do so. I won't be returning here to fight the fight but as MNHQ deleted the last thread I have had to start my own to give you my own twopence'th if anybody wants to contact us for more information the email address is [email protected]

No sorry.

She complained because her toddler stuck his head in a gap behind the dryer. She wanted them to put measures in place to make sure it never happened ever again.

Sallyingforth · 14/07/2014 15:35

OP If you are genuinely interested in women's rights there are many more useful things to do than this fucking stupid 'nurse-in'.
PM me if you would like a few suggestions!

LoonvanBoon · 14/07/2014 15:35

Oh right, equally nuts then! Thanks, Sienna.

HaroldLloyd · 14/07/2014 15:35

Cedar Falls should def. give one mumsnetter a free weekend.

Pumpkinpositive · 14/07/2014 15:36

Is this the woman who wanted to get her older child's potty out in the soft furnishings department? Please tell me it is. How I loved that thread.

Sadly not. This wimmin's child jammed his head behind a hand drier in the JL store.

One was not amused.

Anarchy99 · 14/07/2014 15:37

Loon Sadly I don't think so, but she could join forces with sparkly fanjo woman and also the poster who moaned that her PFB was pissing about with the hooks in a shop and nearly had his eye out (or something along those lines anyway!)

D0oinMeCleanin · 14/07/2014 15:38

His head?

Is that a typo for hand? How on earth could a toddler force their head behind a hand dryer without the two adults in presence doing anything to prevent it?

A hand I could understand, but a head? Confused

FuckYouChrisAndThatHorse · 14/07/2014 15:40

I saw the deleted Facebook thread too (amazing memory me).

Oh Mr V, coming on here lying, putting a spin on it, neglecting to mention how Mrs V threatened the spa with legal action.

If I were them I'd have double checked with the legal department that I wasn't discriminating, and then cancelled the aggressive woman's booking, on the grounds that guests who threaten the establishment to get their own way are bad for business.

Your wife was discriminated against. They discriminated against the aggressive people.

The poor aggressive people :( no one cares about them. No one does sit ins for them.

I breastfed all my dcs. But actually being a good role model for them is probably more valuable in the long run, than their feeding method in the early days.

SiennaBlake · 14/07/2014 15:40

No names so hope this okay:

Really disappointed. When we went into John Lewis Exeter a few weeks ago, we used the family toilet. I was just washing my hands after changing my toddler's nappy and I heard a little voice saying 'stuck'. My 21 month old had managed to get his head stuck between the hand drier and the wall, which is at exactly the right height and distance for inquisitive toddlers.
It took a lot of effort and some force to get his head back out - because of the position of the hand drier, we couldn't even open the door to ask anyone else to help.We thankfully did get him out, but he had scrapes and bruising down his face.
We went to customer services to mention it to them - I don't want it being able to happen to anyone else's child - and they said that they would sort it. We were there for ages filling in accident forms.
Am really disappointed to see that a few weeks later, when we go back into the same toilet, nothing has changed at all. So much for John Lewis' assurances that the gap would be sorted so that no-one else's child could injure themselves.
I'm not blaming John Lewis for my toddler sticking his head in that gap - toddlers do these things. I am simply begging that the gap be sorted so that they cannot get themselves stuck and injured. The next time someone gets stuck there could mean the fire brigade taking bits down to get them out, and that won't look good!

HecatePropylaea · 14/07/2014 15:41

hang on, hang on - they let their kid get their head stuck behind a dryer while they were right there in charge of their child and they blamed the store?

The measures? Erm, a big sign saying take care of your kid ought to do it.

londonrach · 14/07/2014 15:41

Ops business page on fb sew entitled seemed to have vanished.

Pumpkinpositive · 14/07/2014 15:41

Is that a typo for hand? How on earth could a toddler force their head behind a hand dryer without the two adults in presence doing anything to prevent it?

I'm sure she said head. She was all over the JL page, complaining.

Freckletoes · 14/07/2014 15:42

I'm another mum who breast fed all 3 kids past a year of age. I think this whole thing is ridiculous!!

You all sound like a group of bored mothers who have nothing better to do then complain about the world not revolving around you! And I really don't think people are doing breastfeeding a favour by then posting pictures of babies attached to/holding on to/grinning and sitting next to their tit! Yay you breastfeed, yay you support being able to do it anywhere-but there is no need to plaster the internet in pictures of your boobs to demonstrate this-how does that help the argument about being allowed to feed anywhere? Do you feed on the internet? Of course not because it is a virtual space, so why do you feel the need to get your breasts out in a photograph for all to see? Are you going to be posting pictures of your full moon cups and shitty filled washable nappies in your next fight?!

You are actually doing the whole breastfeeding cause a lot of damage with this debacle, acting like a bunch of hysteric mummies about a situation you have no personal connection to. The women of old who fought for equal rights for women would be turning in their graves. Hmm

toriap2 · 14/07/2014 15:43

Oh no, where will I get my sparkly fanjo pads now, will have to set Mrtoriap2 to work and he only has one arm at the mo.

sparechange · 14/07/2014 15:43

Anarchy99
You mean the mother of the toddler who was 'exploring his world' and pulled a display stand over Wink

TheFairyCaravan · 14/07/2014 15:44

I would bet my last pound that sparkly Fanjo pad woman does get her potty out in JL and anywhere else she deems fit!

londonrach · 14/07/2014 15:44

Please cf I've been very good I'd love a weekend in your spa. I'd take my mum. No children will come with us I promise.

Pumpkinpositive · 14/07/2014 15:45

Ops business page on fb sew entitled seemed to have vanished.

Nope, still there.

D0oinMeCleanin · 14/07/2014 15:45

The next time someone gets stuck there

So toddlers getting their heads stuck behind hand dryers is quite common then? I must be a better mum/aunty than I thought. It's never happened to any child in my care, despite my love of benign neglect Grin

If I have another child I'm gonna breastfeed to save on babysitter's fees. Nightclubs have to make allowances, right?

Anarchy99 · 14/07/2014 15:45

sparechange Yes "exploring his world" - that's the one Grin

One of those very difficult situations where I was on a packed train on my way home reading that - actually laughing out loud! It should have gone into classics really!

Yeah it was head. They said they couldn't open the door to get help because of how he was trapped and he has bad bruises.

Similar thing, complaining on business page.

TheFairyCaravan · 14/07/2014 15:46

It's not called Sew Entitled.

We can't name it else the thread'll go poooft!

LittlePeaPod · 14/07/2014 15:46

Loon what? A potty? WTF? I missed that one. Ha ha ha ha ha

ballsballsballs · 14/07/2014 15:46

Please could I clarify. The complainer and or family complained about the last thread so it got pulled. They then started a new thread on the same subject. Why? In the name of cheese why???

It's a new OP, apparently.

A cynic might observe that the last thread was not entirely positive about the whole situation, and the complainer might not have been happy about that. And that this thread gives a 'right of reply' so no complaint as yet. But I'm not a cynic.
