To think you wouldn't want your full name and workplace mentioned on MN

Someone I know has been mentioned on MN (I'm assuming without her knowledge), full name, plus employers name. I reported it but MN seem to think it's ok.

Would you appreciate your first and last names and workplace being mentioned on here, assuming you are not after publicity or promoting anything?

There's no such thing as full anonymity though. We're all much more identifiable than we like think we are. It's all too easy to be lulled into a false sense of security.

Not at all. I wouldn't even reveal my first name on her. I am very suprised MNHQ allow this. Is privacy not a human right.

No she didn't post it herself. Another poster is asking if anyone has experience of her. This person is not self employed but holds a responsible job.

Does her job involve working the the public?

If she was a counsellor or solicitor and her details are easily found on the net I can't see there being any problem with someone asking about the work she does on here.

Does she use MN? Would she be upset if she knew about the post? Are you going to tell her?

Depends what sort of job. Are they offering goods/services? Because there are plenty of review sites on the web so comments on MN would just be one place amongst many.

OK in some cases, not OK in others, I think. "Does anyone have any experience with Doris Bloggs, Frank FFoulkes or Antigone Montgomery-Smythe, the consultant OB/GYNs at St Blanks Hospital? Those are the options my GP has given me for a referral and I'm trying to decide which to go for." is fine, IMO, for example.

My workplace can be easily found by googling my name, and, conversely, anyone checking my work website can find my name. As well as CV.

Unless the person works for MI5 I don't see a big problem.

I wouldn't reply to such request, though, not on MN, because the person asking could be the person herself trying to catch someone who works with her. But I still wouldn't give my opinion because it could sorely bite me in the arse.

If it's someone who advertises their name and place of work online anyway, then I can't see the problem - asking for reviews of someone whose profession and workplace are already freely available wouldn't bother me. If it's someone who works as part of an organisation that wouldn't necessarily publicise their employment online, then that's another matter.

I can't think of any jobs with children which don't have details publicly available (don't they have to be transparent and beyond reproach and contact with them is part of that?), unless it's very sensitive work which could throw up issues if it's talked about online?

On Local? I'm not sure what the circumstances are to know if yabu or not - don't you have to keep a separate username for local, as you're essentially meant to use it more publicly to meet and network with other mums?
