to think kids should not be out playing at 6am

The past few mornings my neighbours kids have been out playing in the street very early. I work shifts so I'm first to admit my body clock is all over the place but I heard them screaming and shrieking on Monday looked at the clock at it was 550 am. Tues it was 7 am. Wed and Thurs it was 6am

Seriously what kind of parent let's their kids out to play at 6am

or am I just being an unreasonable moany faced coo. If I'm not any suggestions for what to do??

I would ring 101 and tell the kids are making a lot of noise out the front.

That's awful, Redglitter. Not before 8 or 9am is preferable. I am a very early riser (4.45 this morning) but will wait until after eight to hoover in case the sound carries to neighbours but then I am a kind and considerate neighbour.

I would not be surprised if you chatted to other neighbours that they too would not be happy about this. Perhaps a word to the parents? Do you usually get on?

I don't let DS play out until 10:30. We are regularly up before then and I take him to the park instead (one that's not near anyone's house)

I don't think it's fair on anyone else to make a lot of noise outside before 10:30 or after 9pm

I would say 8am weekdays, probably 9am weekends is the earliest and even then with a "as quiet as possible rule"

I would say 7am on weekdays. The neighbours who are builders have all already left for work and the London commuters have just gone. Only lazy me and the pensioners left in bed by 7am in this street.

My DS was often out in the garden at 7am, as was I, doing some gardening. The point being that neither of us were noisy at all.

My kids get up at 6am, but yes, that is too early to let them make noise outside. Where I live 7am is fine, as there is lots of activity outside by 7am on a weekday, but 8am on a weekend (we live in a farming community). If they are breaking silence I guess you play what is appropriate by ear, but 9am is surely fine anywhere.

Unless the parents are axe murders talk to the kids or parents though - calling the police about kids playing is insane!

YANBU, when DD was younger she wasn't allowed to go out till after 9am during the weekend, unless she was going to be quiet- which isn't likely when she is on the trampoline. But I let her out earlier if she was just going to make daisy chains etc which is a quiet activity.

9am too for lawn mowers, chain saws etc.

I don't think there's a problem with kids out playing at that time- I usually get up around 4.30am in summer, and the kids around 5.30, so they'd be out and about doing things in the garden by 6. But we live rurally, no close neighbours. In an average neighbourhood, any loud activities likely to wake people should be delayed a few hours. YANBU to object to loud shrieky play at 6am. But it also isn't unreasonable for kids to be up and outside (quietly) at 6am.

I am the only one awake here BUT mine can be up at any point post 6 am

They don't go out but I don't see why not...do they look cared for and fed?

The students who live in my street get a bit agitated about the children playing loudly in the street at around 10am. I send them out earlier the morning after a loud student party.

6am is most definitely too early.

6am is too early yes but 7am fine on a week day, 8am at weekends.

Local authorities in the UK should have "Quiet time" rules like in Germany, then there would be no need to debate what "early" or "late" means :o

8pm til 7am is quiet time here - and you're meant to be quieter on Sundays, but that applies mainly to lawn mowers... 7am onwards its fair to play out :o

icanseethesun What on earth do you think the police are going to do about some children playing outside their house? The would laugh their arses off if that call came in!

I would think the police have much better things to do with their time.

Quietly playing - fine

My neighbour's (about 4 door up) children are usually outside before 7am shrieking and bickering. I wouldn't mind if it was outside their own house but it's always right outside mine

Only on mn would a person suggest ringing 101 over this.......

I had something similar the other weekend, it was before 7am & my neighbour and his son around 2yo were bouncing on the trampoline, it wasn't the toddler I heard, but my neighbour screaming & bouncing up & down.

I went outside & told him that it was far too early for that,

Whilst I was pregnant they used to have chickens in their garden, I was woken up everyday at the crack of dawn by the chickens clucking/whatever they do. I could have murdered him!

They sent a basket of eggs round as an apology to all the neighbours - but I couldn't have eaten an egg after getting to know the chicken. Does anyone else get that?

Precious you do still get people arguing about exactly how much noise is noisy.. (not whete I live, but in cities and blocks of flats especially) but at least the times are det in stone.

Dawn is the best time of day but it sounds as if the children were not listening to the morning birdsong.

I don't want to be one of those grumpy sods who complains about kids out playing. I think I'll give it another few days see if it settles down and if necessary speak to their parents.

funny how they play out front that early when their parents room is at the back if the house. They'll be getting a lie in even if no one else is
