To think that the outcome of any child abuse probe centering around Westminster is foregone?

And the outcome will be that no living politicians will be outed?

I think they will pin it on a few deceased MPs and continue to cover up the involvement of any public figures still alive. There might be one sacrificial lamb to silence the public but I think it will still be a big cover-up.

I do not believe that the police should police the police and that is exactly what is happening with Butler-Sloss heading the inquiry.

Signed CFS

MarmaladeShatkins · 10/07/2014 22:25

I've signed it already :) Not that it will make a blind bit of difference. Fucking cunts.

Absolutely, GinFox.

And how do super injunctions work?! I've heard of one "well-loved" singer taking one out to stop his links with the Elms Guest House becoming public knowledge. Who upholds these injunctions?! It's lunacy.

It does look rather less than promising. Her appointment could be the result of stupidity rather than deliberately undermining, but...

I think what is required is a new version of the Hillsborough Independent Panel. A coroner, two judges and various other officials failed to uncover the truth about Hillsborough for more than two decades - it took an independent panel of not the usual suspects, headed by a bishop, to get to the truth.

We need some independent people from a variety of backgrounds, including people with skills in investigation and research.

TucsonGirl · 10/07/2014 22:37

The media are as much a part of the establishment as the politicians are. The real news will be on twitter and on forums such as this one far more than it is in the printed press or newspaper website for that matter. People will register their disgust by simply not voting.

Whitershadeofpale · 10/07/2014 22:40

What about a mumsnet campaign, or trying to organise a march? I'm not really sure how to go about it but am willing to do whatever it takes to ensure a proper independent inquiry.

Whitershadeofpale · 10/07/2014 22:51

If anyone's interested I've just started this thread www.mumsnet.com/Talk/mumsnet_campaigns/2129828-A-truly-independent-enquiry-into-child-sex-abuse

MarmaladeShatkins · 10/07/2014 22:51

Same, Whiter.

MN won't want to get involved due to the legal implications but maybe Facebook or Twitter is the place to gather like-minded people?

I've signed it to but they have got away with so much for so long they think they are untouchable and they may be, sadly.

Whitershadeofpale · 10/07/2014 22:57

Probably marmalade but it's got to be worth a try. I think you're right re: social media. Not quite sure how to start. Let me sleep on it and maybe we can come up with something.

misstiredbuthappy · 10/07/2014 23:08

They will get away with it wont they Angry

SquigglySquid · 10/07/2014 23:29

I think a media circus is exactly what this needs Squiggly, it's been kept out of the headlines for too long.

Yes, agreed. However, on the other side of the coin, the media drags these victims names through the headlines and never sticks with it long enough for them to get restitution. They drop the story while the victims fight behind the public eye for years and years before they see justice. Sad Angry

glasgowstevenagain · 10/07/2014 23:29

The mps will all be away for their summer holidays soon....

Parliament will close for the recess......

Won't be long till it's st saviours day

FieldRose · 10/07/2014 23:37

I've signed the petition...

ouryve · 10/07/2014 23:42

So long as the same establishment that was establishment when it was all happening is involved and so long as all those records remain "lost", then nothing useful will come of it.

postcardofagoldenretriever · 11/07/2014 00:19

EBS is in her 80s now, isn't she? Hmm So as well as being solidly Establishment she isn't exactly at the top of her game in career terms - yes some people are sharp as tacks well into their eighties but if you want an inquiry to look serious wouldn't you appoint someone like Leveson who's a serving judge?

AlexTurnersmicropone · 11/07/2014 07:37

I've signed the petition and shared on Facebook, I feel very strongly about this as well and will support any campaign.

sashh · 11/07/2014 08:30

MarmaladeShatkins

Would that be a well known bachelor?

Am I the only one who thinks Tom Watson should be PM?

fluffyraggies · 11/07/2014 08:39

Signed.

I came on to say exactly that - that it is no independent enquiry with her at the helm.

I think the petition needs a clear thread of its own. So it stands out. Here and in chat perhaps. Can someone more eloquent than me start that? (baby wrangling at the mo)

Mybigfatredwedding · 11/07/2014 09:02

I think you are absolutely right Marmalade. A couple of medium profile dead people will be named and that will be that.

Have been reading about Elm House and a few other things, fucking hell what is wrong with some people?

CFSKate · 11/07/2014 09:07

[[http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-28257488 A man abused by a paedophile priest in Sussex says Baroness Butler-Sloss is the wrong person to lead an inquiry into how public bodies dealt with allegations of child abuse.

Phil Johnson says she told him she wanted to exclude his allegations of abuse at the hands of a bishop from a public report because she "cared about the church" and "did not want to give the press a bishop". ]]

Squidstirfry · 11/07/2014 09:24

There is simply no limit to the vile, disgusting, dishonest, corrupt, self-satisfied criminality of politicians.

All politicians should be hung for this. They do nothing except serve and protect themselves, they do not care who's lives they destry.

I will gladly support any "vigilante" type group!

Have signed (as if that will do anything) far more direct action is needed.

MarmaladeShatkins · 11/07/2014 10:17

Yes, sashh. He likes summer holidays in Barbados, where he has become a citizen of within the last twelve months. Barbados, incidentally, have no extradition treaty with the UK. Not that I am implying anything. Hmm

wonder of he's still pals with our cilla?

MarmaladeShatkins · 11/07/2014 10:43

Very much so. They were at Wimbledon together. What a nasty set of bastards. Ick.
