To have had baby DDs hair cut short

Dd is 9 months. Her fringe has been bothering her but the rest isn't all that long. I have had her hair cut into a pixie hairstyle which I think looks super cute. It's had some funny reactions though, I think people think it's weird to cut a baby girl's hair off. AIBU?

People are weird. I get odd looks when DS2 walks round with a handbag - he likes it - why not?

A little girl at DS1s pre school took the scissors to her own her and cut a large lump out so mum cut the whole lot into a pixie do and it looked really cute.

People are quick to judge and like things in neat boxes. Ignore them. YANBU.

People can be a bit strange about haircuts on small children, especially first haircuts. If it works for you and your dd thats all you need to know.

It's your choice. If you gave her a purple Mohican I might raise an eyebrow but otherwise, meh.

It will grow down really nicely if it has had a good cut and I bet it looks very cute! My dd had a really cute, short do as a toddler and I used to love it and not want it to grow (although now she us nearly 5 with gorgeous long curls, I love her hair now too).

Sounds very practical given how often 9mo smear food in their hair - a lot of babies only have that length hair anyway!

People who judge you for cutting your daughters hair in the way that suits her best, are odd and let's face it probably sexist.

Thanks all, I must admit I never thought it would be controversial. And the top of her hair was a bit mop like before.

I gave dtd1 this type of haircut, mainly because I was fed up of having to wash her dinner out of her hair every single night! She looked just as gorgeous after as she did before, but we no longer had hours of mucking about with cross wriggly baby every bathtime and bedtime.

Dd had no need of a haircut before she was 2, and actually short hair on babies is much more practical, the mucky monkeys! Sounds like she is happier with it short and you think she looks great, so what else is there to say? YANBU, practical and cute is the way to go.

My good friend has always had a pixie cut herself and her two girls have too. They are now primary age and all look fabulous.
If DD (now v small) carries on having lots of hair (which her brother does) I'll go for similar, maybe a bob for school if she insists on hair accessories.

I cut my babies hair into a pixie cut. It looked SUPER cute (even if I do say so!) I like little girls with short hair but I had some V strange reactions at the toddler group. Including "did she get something caught in it?" and "do you have to always dress her in pink now?" and "well it won't ale long to grow back"

TYPICALLY now she is a bit older she wants long long hair like Elsa from Frozen. But I loved it and if I have another girl I will be keeping her hair short til she can argue with me.

I kept both my girls hair short when they were little. I was told it would encourage thick hair growth in the future. Seems to have worked

Probably no truth in it, but spared all the endless de tangling....

People are weird. Most babies have v short hair at that age anyway! It seems to be some sort of crime not to grow girls' hair long.

DD has two older brothers, one of which is sporting alternating blue and purple nail varnish to nursery today. I'm keeping her hair short until she is old enough to ask otherwise or wash it herself (she is only 4m at the moment)

I think pixie cuts on little girls look amazing. I also think long ringlets look great on boys

I think it's partly that, if I keep her hair short, I won't be able to do plaits etc. I can't do plaits anyway, I'm useless at that sort of thing.

I've just grown out a pixie cut and I miss it a lot - I might have it done again when I get to the hairdressers! I bet your girl looks very cute!

DD2 is fair and curly and didn't have much hair for ages. Didn't help that she cut chunks out of it a couple of times. People asked me why she had a boy's haircut a few times when she was a baby. I said "That's as long as her hair has grown yet."

In fact I think DD2 only had wisps of hair beyond 12 months, never mind 9 months.

I am in no way qualified to cut hair. I can't even be bothered to blow-dry mine.

DD2 was still bald as a coot at 9 months. No one suggested I got her a wig.

She was nearly 2 by the time she had her first haircut.

I think there should be more little girls with short hair, and little boys with longer hair come to that. When I was young there was a lot more variety of hair length among children.
