Actually why are the women's handbag/sporrans white?

Half a saltire, so it says. Smile

AgentProvocateur · 07/07/2014 23:54

The cross-body stone coloured bag represents the St. Andrew's Cross on the saltire allegedly.

The uniforms are completely bowfing.

SageYourResoluteOracle · 08/07/2014 00:01

Oh. Good. God.

ipanemame · 08/07/2014 00:08

I really liked the girls outfit when I first clicked on it, have just gone back for a second look...yep still like it Blush

LittleBearPad · 08/07/2014 00:08

Poor Scottish team.

LittleBearPad · 08/07/2014 00:09

They look like a dodgy air crew.

PhaedraIsMyName · 08/07/2014 00:10

It's bloody awful. Why does everything have to be tartan? There are one or two nice ones but it's such poverty of imagination.

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 08/07/2014 00:15

Any Edinburgh residents over the age of 35 will get this comment.

It's like they started getting dressed in the kilt shop on Princes Street, then finished off in the staff changing rooms at Littlewoods.

Just dreadful, although I do like the tartan. It's everything else that's gien me the boak.

Purplefrogshoes · 08/07/2014 00:16

They are hideous! Why did it have to be tartan?

SconeRhymesWithGone · 08/07/2014 00:16

Evidently "modesty shorts" are part of the uniform. Grin

To think that the scots should be kicked out of the union
PhaedraIsMyName · 08/07/2014 00:17

Lonny Oh goodness yes. That sums up exactly what is wrong with that shade of blue. It's man-made fibre uniform blue.

IamRechargingthankYou · 08/07/2014 00:23

So, the funny black/gold lady is the designer? Look - I'm going to stand my ground here - except I would accept Muddlins pic as the OUTRIGHT winner if every team member - male and female (including coaches, etc) had to wear it. Look, it's a sporting event not the freaking Milan Show. The sportsmen and women need easy wash, easy dry, no iron clothes. In case they win things and need to appear often (they will!).

Still not sure why white is 'half a saltire' - where's the blue? They should all be brown - maybe "earthy brown" to match the socks.

SconeRhymesWithGone · 08/07/2014 00:26

The blue is the dress, I think.

PhaedraIsMyName · 08/07/2014 00:28

No they don't. They won't be competing in the uniform- washability should not be the top reason.

IamRechargingthankYou · 08/07/2014 00:32

Scone I was wondering what the brown appendage was over the 'modesty shorts' - it's his sporran natch. Hopefully someone can tell him the correct order of dress prior to the. opening ceremony - otherwise we may have some odd commentary.

Rather like the look of the Modesty Shorts myself - let me know if there's a 'sale' for them post-games.

SconeRhymesWithGone · 08/07/2014 00:43

Iam I didn't even notice that!

That blue print reads like an American frontier calico. Odd choice.

IamRechargingthankYou · 08/07/2014 00:43

Sorry Phaedra of course they don't - not only should they turn up for every event in the either worn, sweaty or spare expensive 'sporty' clothes they have either been lucky enough to have sponsorship for (or got the money for it from somehere). Or, they can wear the team -kit. Unfortunately not too many Scots are top of the game so something cheap and cheerful will be something everyone can afford.
Of course it would be prefrabel to have garments made from silk chosen by cupids and woven by angels, but really we just can't have everything.

IamRechargingthankYou · 08/07/2014 00:52

Scone the Scots were right there at the US Frontier (Highland Clearances) but just less vocal about it than other countries - so let's say the US copied it from the Scots even if it's not true

PhaedraIsMyName · 08/07/2014 00:56

Iamrecharging I have no interest in the Commonwealth Games but this has been a laugh. The uniforms certainly look cheap although the kilts are very unlikely to actually have been cheap.

I'm not sure I agree dressing on a budget means one is limited to washable man made fibres.

IamRechargingthankYou · 08/07/2014 01:37

Phaedra not sure myself, pleased you appreciate the laugh in this, all I can think is that wool might be a little hot - most fibres won't come from Scotland -maybe oil-based? or has anyone made oat-fibre material yet?. Now flax - that could be a go. Let's suggest it for the next one in 4 years.

can't believe I'm still awake!

Ericaequites · 08/07/2014 02:42

I remember the 1970s quite well, and wore child size polyester pantsuits. I went to a private school, where I wore a plaid gymslip. I worked at Anderson Little, home of the Dacron suit. I've still never seen anything so ugly. Do you have to beat it with a stick before you put it on? Does it glow in the dark? Do clowns laugh at you when you walk by?

ExitPursuedByAKoalaBear · 08/07/2014 07:16

I woke at 4.30am with pain in my knee. Clicked on this thread and had to keep stuffing my fist in my mouth to stifle my hysterical laughter so as not to wake DH.

Grin

They cannot be serious?

cozietoesie · 08/07/2014 07:55

Oh the shame of it. Blush

If anyone mentions Ally's Tartan Army, I may never forgive them.

stephenisjustcoming · 08/07/2014 08:02

I can't wait for the Welsh team uniform reveal, if this is anything to go by. Pink stovepipe hats for the ladies and paisley dragons for the lads?

OOAOML · 08/07/2014 08:03

They are pretty bad. On the other hand I haven't yet seen what other countries are going to be wearing, and the outfits Team GB were in at the Olympics opening ceremony were decidedly ABBA-esque.

It was actually quite refreshing to read a story about Scotland that united all the commenters though.
