To be jealous of the Beckhams?!

Roussette · 06/07/2014 13:28

Right. I'm a huge Wimbledon fan. I've camped out, queued up, gone into the Ballot every year trying to get tickets (been successful twice in about 30 years) and yet I've just seen the Beckhams arrive for the Mens Final.

VB is all dolled up like she's on the catwalk, DB is suited and booted and they have one of the best seats in the house. Is this fair? Nope. Because real tennis fans can't get to see the sport they love. I'd think far more of them if just occasionally they donated their special seats to a Tennis Club so a real fan me could fulfil their dream of seeing the Mens Final.

I know 'money talks' but even if I had the money I still couldn't get to the Mens Finals because I'm not famous. Angry

Rant over.

I'm not AIBU am I....or am I?!

Yabu. It's a major event and he is a sportsman - unless they hate tennis, and I can't imagine they'd put themselves through a long match if they did, why wouldn't they want to go? It's not their fault there's a limited number of tickets.

Roussette · 06/07/2014 14:04

I know it's a perk of the job for him/them and I flippin' well hope VB loves tennis as much as I do. Disgruntled, me? Surely not

It's pure blown envy and at least I'm honest about it. I would give anything to be sat in the royal box watching this match.

Good for Brooklyn. At least he's earning his own pocket money. I don't see why that attracts sarcasm.

WanderingAway · 06/07/2014 14:07

Why pick on the beckhams? There is a couple of celebs attending today, why point the finger just at the beckhams?

Ledkr · 06/07/2014 14:08

I feel sorry for her, I'd hate to have to be so aware of my appearance all the time, it's bad enough when you have a wedding or party with all that pressure to look good and wear uncomfortable shoes.
I love dressing up but equally love to be able to knock about in jeans and a t shirt without being judged and criticised.

Roussette · 06/07/2014 14:09

No reason Wandering. It's just that I saw them draw up in a limo and her totter in on sky high heels and I'm in a bad mood. My ridiculous envy moment could apply to any other slebs too.

FrankelandFilly · 06/07/2014 14:12

Ledkr my boss' sister sat next to VB in First Class on a flight back from the US a few years ago. As soon as the seatbelt signs were off after takeoff VB went to the toilets, scrubbed all her make up off and came out in a t-shirt and track suit bottoms. Then half an hour before they were due to land she went back to the toilets, reapplied all her make up and changed into a glam outfit. She likes to slob like the rest of us!

Meloria · 06/07/2014 14:12

What's wrong with wearing high heels to watch tennis? She's sitting down, she knows she's going to be photographed. Do you expect her to turn up in joggers and a pair of 18 month old Toms?

andsmile · 06/07/2014 14:15

I agree with ledkr.

I can see why it it easy to envy such people OP but I honestly believe they lead crappy fake lives. They are not 'free' or 'true' in the same way we are.

However I do think slebs at these events add a level of glamour/appeal to people watching which is in addition to the tennis. But can see why big long time fans would get annoyed.

scottishmummy · 06/07/2014 14:15

She's a brand,an image to project.of course in public she turns up in heels and glam

PasswordProtected · 06/07/2014 14:17

You are jealous of a poker-faced barbie doll and her tattoo man?
Much better on tv, you can watch comfortably, go to the loo when you want & sip Pimms or champers ad lib.
And if it gets boring, you can switch it off and go and do something else.

scottishmummy · 06/07/2014 14:18

I wasn't aware any royals had tattoos, agree about poker faced Barrie doll quip
Victoria on other hand is great

Roussette · 06/07/2014 14:20

Meloria - she can wear what she wants. I used the high heels as a way of showing that I am a real grouch about this and just to make the thread more interesting Grin

Password nothing but nothing beats the atmosphere there. I would pour myself a Pimms if I didn't have a hangover from last night.

My DH got tickets to mens quarters year before last (tennis club draw) - he said it is an amazing place - just like you think it will be, did not disappoint at all.

NuggetofPurestGreen · 06/07/2014 14:35

I thought the exact same thing earlier gwen I saw Samuel LJ in attendance. I'm jealous of all the slebs!

waterducksback · 06/07/2014 14:40

I like the Beckham's... and say what you like, they seem very family orientated (especially victoria)

Roussette · 06/07/2014 14:40

andsmile yes it is. I've been lucky enough to win tickets in the ballot twice and it was a fantastic experience and I loved every minute of it (but was a bit pissed off when I went to the loo during a break in play on centre court and I missed the streaker who did a cartwheel across the net stark bollock naked. DD enjoyed that bit Grin)

Cuteypatootey · 06/07/2014 14:44

I like David, at least he was talented at what he does and has become a sort of ambassador for sport. Vb is so try hard, taking credit for other people's designs and always looks miserable.

LucyStafford · 06/07/2014 14:44

Much mire than tattoo's and high heels from VB. Never understand the vitriol shown to her from the likes of MN.

Lilaclily · 06/07/2014 14:45

I love them too
& what's wrong with tattoos
Lots of judginess here

TheSpottedZebra · 06/07/2014 14:49

Oh, I thought this would be one of Sparkling's threads! Wink

Not sure why the Beckhams are getting all the hate for their attendance? Not Lampard and Christine Bleakley yesterday? Bloody Beatrice/Eugenie to everything all the bloody time? Their fat fool of a father? etc etc

Samuel L Jackson and Hugh Jackman are there today - have they proven tennis credentials? Anna Wintour has been there a lot, and she wears heels and fancy clothes, but she does play and follow tennis. SHould we shade her too, or does she come out evens?

BackforGood · 06/07/2014 14:50

Wimbledon always attracts lots of celebs. I feel at least the Beckhams probably enjoy the matches, rather than just attending 'to be seen'

But yes, of course I'm a bit envious of folk who have the power to acquire tickets for things I'd like to see - I'm sure we'd all like to be able to just get tickets whether it's for a music gig or a sports event or whatever, so YANBU to be jealous, but don't let it eat you up. YABU to pick exclusively on the Beckhams though - fair enough if you said "all actors, musicians, sports people, royals, politicians, and Bear Grylls" though.

silveroldie2 · 06/07/2014 14:52

Years ago they had a system where you could camp on the pavement overnight and early morning of the final we would be given numbered tickets. We then went home, showered, changed, went back and queued to buy tickets - all the seats court-side were reserved for us.

I saw some fantastic and memorable men's finals including Rosewall, Connors, MacEnroe, Borg etc.

Shame they stopped doing it.

Good luck next year OP.

TSSDNCOP · 06/07/2014 14:52

The thing is we don't know that she didn't spend yesterday on her couch watchng the women's final in leggings and a t shirt like most of the rest of us.

Never met VB but I have to say I'd love to. I bet she's a scream in RL. She knows the Paps are desperate for the money shot of her guffawing like a pissed donkey, so she won't do it.

Her kids look absolutely lovely too. She's smart enough to have dumped the other hangers on from the Spice Girls, and you can say what you like about her fashion inspiration but she seems to work very hard.

Roussette · 06/07/2014 14:54

Yes. As I said upthread - I picked the Beckhams because they were the ones I saw arrive. It isn't personal because as I said upthread also - I could apply this to any sleb lucky enough to be there. 'Tis only a lighthearted observation from a real tennis fan, i.e. moi
