Tonight's repeat of Benidorm which features Les singing on the karaoke.....Rolf Harris Two little boys Shock.

It wasn't brief either he is singing the whole bloody song!

His face is also in the Biff/chip reading scheme. Schools need to be aware. It's in the animal hospital story. We removed our copies yesterday.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 02/07/2014 08:56

Why can't a matter-of-fact list of publications/schemes containing the person involved be circulated and the offending material removed. It's not difficult to find this information, even Wiki has a list of everything that a specific person has done in their professional lives.

DottyDooRidesAgain · 02/07/2014 09:02

I haven't looked at blaming anyone or condemning anyone and neither has anyone else on this thread. I have only said that ITV should not have shown that particular episode given the timing.
Given that they removed it from the plus 1 channel they agree.

There is a particular aftershave that I cannot smell, when I do I become shaky and I have a moment of panic. I haven't demanded Calvin Kline to take it off the shelves nor do I have a go at people who wear it.

I am sorry you find threads like this triggering and obviously my intention was not to upset anyone it was to find out if my shock ( at hearing his name in a positive manner) and the stomach churn I felt was an unreasonable feeling or not.

I completely disagree that there have been gleeful postings and I find that a very offensive remark.

doobledootch · 02/07/2014 10:15

I didn't say it warranted the same 'outcry' as the tweenies episode, I was just using that as an example of how repeats probably aren't re-watched by the schedulers before they put them on.

The only people I've seen jumping up and down on this thread are those who seem determined to belittle the OP for thinking that the timing of this was off.

fromparistoberlin73 · 02/07/2014 10:49

daft

melika · 02/07/2014 10:58

I will always love that song, like I love Glitters 'Leader of the gang', but I will always detest their vile actions.

ShoeWhore · 02/07/2014 11:08

It didn't upset me but I did raise an eyebrow at that particular episode being shown last night. Seemed inappropriate.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 02/07/2014 12:17

I didn't say there were gleeful postings on this thread, Dotty but there have been on the myriad others. I find those pretty offensive.

I'm quite able to hand people posting threads like this, I would backspace out if I wanted to that badly. I do wonder what is behind the posting of them though... if you're not intent on blaming or condemning anybody, then why? It's just a question.

The fact that the tv channels bow to media pressure isn't really surprising as they do that seemingly regardless of whether it is right to do it or not.

Minnie You have every right to express how you feel as do I. If you feel that telling me to fuck off is a correct response to my thread then so be it.

Personally I think it just makes you look very nasty and spiteful.

OP posts:
LondonRocks · 02/07/2014 15:18

The reason many people find it a bit Hmm is possibly because it's not just a programme. It's a trigger. And a reminder that, for those who suffer abuse, you don't and can 't just switch it off; life doesn't just carry on as per.

The significance of what it represents (to those who have suffered in particular), is quite something, actually.

Mooycow · 02/07/2014 15:25

I think itv must have realised, as it withdrew the repeat episode on itv+1

ZanyMobster · 02/07/2014 15:30

I think I may have raised an eyebrow at the timing of the repeat of the episode but nothing more, it sounds as if it was an oversight due to ITV removing it from +1.

I don't really know how to feel about the songs etc, I absolutely love Two Little Boys, my mum always sang it to us at bedtime and she has always done the same to my boys. They sleep at her house every week and this week it was the day of the RH verdict. She snuck out of DS2s room before singing to him as she was not sure what to do, he called her back to ask her to sing and she started singing something different but he cried until she sang Two Little Boys.

My DM was a bit upset as she didn't feel quite right but I told her not to worry, it was just a song and nothing changes that.

I have no idea what the right thing to do is really.

TheRealAmandaClarke · 02/07/2014 17:35

Maybe songs can be reclaimed over time.
It wasn't his song originally of course. Although its obviously associated with him.
As an observer it's interesting to see public reactions about these issues.
I just hope there a real lessons learned frrom the case reviews. Because whilst the images and ditties of those convicted men can provoke strong feelings among their victims or those of us who feel uncomfortable at our having liked them in our childhood when they were behaving so abhorrently , they're not in themselves harmful to children now.
Whilst id go along with a pp at the idea of a public bonfire!
I think it's more important for us to recognise that men who appear harmless can be very dangerous. And to maintain a sense of healthy, balanced scepticism about ppl. And to listen to children. Really listen.

Calloh · 02/07/2014 17:51

I can't stand the idea of a bonfire, to me it seems so hysterical and unhelpful. But I totally agree with Amanda that it would be wonderful if people started really listening to children.

I hope Two Little Boys is reclaimed from Harris and his loathsome actions. Although I don't have a problem with that Benidorm being shown I do know what you mean OP, I feel physically sick every time I see that clip of JS running slow-mo, it repulses.

Hope you're ok Dotty

Some vile responses on here. It would have turned my stomach too. There a real people behind these threads, with feelings FGS. Shame on you Sad

DottyDooRidesAgain · 04/07/2014 23:58

Thank you Spring

His stuff is being removed all over the place. A mural he painted in Sheffield is being painted over shortly. The Sheffield council said no works of a convicted paedophile/sex offender has any place in the public eye. I agree.

DottyDooRidesAgain · 05/07/2014 01:21

I think it maybe because you copied minnies post Stratters I don't think it was personal. Tbh I was surprised at the deletion as I hadn't reported any posts.

OP posts:
CrayolaCocaColaRocknRolla · 05/07/2014 14:44

Don't be daft, its a good song, which I think all of us know. Its JUST a song.
Thats like saying "They shouldn't play Michael Jackson songs because he was accused of being a paedophile!"

I hear what you're saying, but it really is just a song about two boys who grow up to be soldiers. Now, "What your mama don't see, Your mama don't know" by Gary Glitter would be inappropriate...

DottyDooRidesAgain · 05/07/2014 15:14

It wasn't the song it was the timing.

And I am not daft!
